I wanted to link the WSJ article, but the damn thing is behind a paywall. I can't actually read it.
Some of the articles cite a week or two time frame for the negotiations. For this one, all we can do is hurry up and wait. People should try not to freak out until we know for sure what's going to happen next. ie some kind of public announcement from MS or Mojang. I agree, they probably can't talk until after the negotiations are complete.
"But importing every Minecraft functionnality to Spacecraft would be an even bigger change... x)"
True, but on the other hand, if the devs of Spacecraft will agree to release the code into public domain (they seem to be very generous about its use), you'll be directly contributing to development of a long-term public domain project with endless possibilities, not constantly trying to deobfuscate a privately owned commercial one without having any say about the course of its development at all.
Suddenly, spending time on development of an open-source clone that won't ever have to deal crap like this doesn't seem like that crazy an idea.

I have a few questions regarding tall worlds:
1. Will this be able to generate other mods features in tall worlds?
2. Will there be any changes to how caves generate?(like giant cave systems/caverns, maybe even the rare underground ecosystem/forest using glowstone as light where you reach a certain layer down)
3. How are you going to handle lighting?
Well I beileve that's all I would like to know for now(sorry if these have already been awnsered before)

For the first two questions: I have no idea.
For the lighting, lighting should Just Work. We went to a lot of trouble to solve issues with the lighting system that pop up when you no longer hold all cubes in a column in memory at once.
Seems to be. Downloads were down at least. I found a dutch website that had an earlier download though. I'll reupload it to a better site as the license says this:

It looks nice, but seems to have some glitches. Unfortunately wasn't playable on my iGPU. (My 7970 died. :()
I'm not sure how to feel about the whole Microsoft buying Mojang deal. One one hand, it could give them a bigger budget to work with, but on the other hand, it just doesn't feel right for a major company like Microsoft to own Minecraft ._.
Also I'm just going to kind of claim post #1000 here

At this point I just don't want them to pull their current favorite trick of saying that Minecraft 2.0 and beyond for PCs will only be compatible with Win 8.1 and beyond... Because I will be using Win 7 for a loooong time. This is my greatest personal concern.
I'm already resigned to the fact that this means I will have to rebuy Minecraft at some point and that there will be DLC packs etc. They are going to get their $2.5 Billion back somehow...
Other than all that, I expect that they will eventually be able to finally take Minecraft to the next level, maybe.
* Oh yeah.. Need to get some coffee.. Obviously the other great concern is what effect this will have on Modding.. I guess we'll see. In the meantime I guess we'll always have the Old-Version-Underground and Modded Minecraft Underground.
EDIT: Oh, and if they want to pretend to be good guys about it then instead of making 8.1 mandatory they will just make sure there are dependencies and bugs that somehow make Minecraft work REALLY poorly on Win 7 and XP but awesome on Win 8.. Kinda like the unintentional current bug in Minecraft that makes it play better than ever for a percentage of people and worse than any other version for others.. Except completely on purpose in MS's case.
EDITx2: I guarantee it all starts with Minecraft 2.0. And the thing is, they will probably add in a lot of the most favorite features currently gained through mods. It'll likely be so good that we will WANT to pay for it again. Though the $60 or higher price tag might put a little lump in our throats as we furtively hand over the cash for it.

-- Robinton's Mods: [ Mirror ] for some of his Mods incl Cubic Chunks Mod, due to DropBox broken links.
How the heck did this get from 'Cubic Chunks' to 'Microsoft Buying Mojang and, by extension, Minecraft, and the potential consequences thereof'?
This whole affair has the entire modding community concerned for it's very existence, so it touches us intimately and the modders even more so. It's difficult to think of anything else atm, especially now that we know an announcement of Microsoft's purchase of Minecraft is expected to occur this Monday...
And, in particular, this project here depends on other projects of Cuchaz's which are involved with deobfuscation of certain codes which allow continued modding, both Cuchaz's and others, to continue occurring just under the type of circumstances happening right now. Especially since Microsoft essentially just bought MCP (Searge) and bukkit when it bought Mojang..
It might very well be that there won't be anymore easy community mc modding (of newer mc versions) without Cuchaz's project Enigma.
See summary of situation in spoiler below:
EDIT: * A second comic has been added to the spoiler, modders mentioned.

I hope modding will still be authorized. They would kill the greatest part of Minecraft if they forbid it.

A Rocket Science tester and engineer. Well, at least when it will be released. =)

These forums are dumb and break my links. I'm bubbleawsome on steam too.

You know... that doesn't sound so bad after all. We'll have to see how the MS deal plays out.

Yeah I've been thinking the exact same thing. Of course I really hope we won't have to, but you never know.

Mojang employees probably can't comment openly until after an official announcement. I guess we're expecting this announcement on Monday.
