MFR Plastic is already added by 'vanilla' Tinkers'. ExU Magic Wood would be interesting, but a] what kind of stats would it have? It's wood, and b] it wouldn't make sense to set it as anything more than a mid-tier material, and there are plenty of those already. It'd need to have some sort of effect to it like the Metallurgy materials in order to stand out/be useful. What do you suggest?
Actually it MFR that is adding the plastic tool parts. It also adds pink slime. And magic wood could add an extra modifier like thaumium.
Magical wood can have an inherent level of smite, and have the same durability as iron, 1.5 handle modifier, be extremely light for projectiles, but be identical in every other way to stone (No stonebound attribute). Basically, the ideal material to make War Hammers(As apposed to mining hammers) and undead-slaying arrows out of.
There is a lack of an "Bane of [insert creature type here]" material in Vanilla TiC. Having Extra Utilities magical Wood (And maybe BoP's Magical Wood too) do extra damage to undead enemies would be a welcome change.
You can already make arrows out of Blaze Rods that have an inherent fiery effect, after all.

I'd say, instead of adding another material that, in all honesty, doesn't fit as a tool material, either make the block do something special when added to a tool, or just act as a way to add another modifier, like a Nether Star or a Gold Block with a diamond.
If it were to do something special, then maybe make it so that, if the tool modified with Magical wood is in your inventory or in a block with an inventory (a chest, item frame, tool forge, etc), it will power up any enchantment table up to level 30. It's not overpowered, since you can just ransack a village to get all the books you'll need, or just make some books with blank patterns, paper, & string. Plus, Magic wood already powers up Enchantment Tables significantly, and it'd make sense for tools with that modifier to do the same.
I know you get suggestions on a regular basis, and I know you've been working diligently on the next update, so I don't expect you to really consider my post, but I had a few ideas I thought I'd leave here anyway on the off chance that you did.
The ghostwood fletching from natura is a good place to start. It's always bothered me that it couldn't be used to make TiC arrows, especially when it looks exactly like TiC fletchings. On the topic of arrows, Thaumcraft has elemental arrows you get by adding the different shards to vanilla arrows. I think it'd be cool to be able to do something similar with TiC arrows, maybe by being able to craft primal arrow heads from thaumcraft shards, or perhaps having the shards be projectile-only modifiers.
Thaumic tinkerer, while being terrible when it comes to keeping with the Thaumcraft style, I believe deserves some love from extraTiC as well, if only because it seems to show up every single place that TC itself does. Ichorium and ichorcloth from TTKami would be great materials for tools, with ichorcloth perhaps functioning as an upgraded enchanted bowstring, and maybe have spellbinding cloth be a modifier that removes all modifiers.
Other people have suggested MFR plastic, but I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone suggest industrialcraft/MFR rubber as a material for tools. Maybe give it inherent knockback and high durability, or something. Thermal expansion is another very popular tech mod that adds a a few metals that I wish could be made into tools. Ferrous, lead, enderium, etc. There's also livingrock, livingwood, and dreamwood from botania; sunstone, moonstone, and witchwood from AM2; the list goes on. Again, I know you're probably not looking for any more suggestions, but I figured I should at least voice my thoughts, even if they just get passed over. Whatever happens, i'm excited for the next update, and I hope you continue to add to extraTiC like you have been. Keep up the good work!

Thermal Expansion adds almost all of its metals as tool materials now. Silver, Lead, Electrum, Platinum, Nickel, and Invar are all tool-materials when Thermal Expansion is installed. Signalium, Mana Infused Metal, Enderium, and Lumium, however, are not tool materials.
That said, Mana Infused Ingot is registered as "mithril" in the ore dictionary, and ExtraTiC already makes Metallurgy's mithril a tool material.
I was playing in my world yesterday, and was going to make a Tartarite broadsword to replace my Steel broadsword, but when I looked in NEI, I noticed that the Tartarite Broadsword was only 1 more damage then my steel one, and the Celenegil was actually one less. That seems a bit foolish, if an easily acquired alloy like steel is only 1 less damage than the best material in the game, and is actually better than the second best. So I was wondering if the Metallurgy metals and alloys would be rebalanced to be made more like they should be (I was thinking Tartarite would be 12 damage, and Celenegil would be 10?). It just makes more sense for the 2 best metals in the game to be at least 2 damage better than a middle tier material. Does that sound like a reasonable idea? And I was also wondering if the ExtraTiC config would have the option to change material attributes, which would make completely rebalancing Metallurgy materials unnecessary, as I could simply do it for myself! Thanks for reading this whole thing if you did, and keep up the good work. This mod is a must have for me because Tinker's and Metallurgy are my two favorite mods that add materials and tools.
Update? Need the new crossbow! (BTW, great job with this mod, Glassmaker! Just one suggestion. Since this is your mod, why not a glass tool? Just my opinion... )

So since you're trying to avoid adding new materials to the selection, is it safe to assume a release is close? Any idea when (probably this week, probably next week, etc, an exact date is unneccesary)?

the newer version wouldn't require Metallurgy for Mithril to activate, that is switched with precious metals including Brass and Zinc.

That is the thing, Tinkers' steel is a different than Metallurgy's steel. while trying to keep tools equivalent to Metallurgy's tools that is the compromise at the moment.
I will see if I can add a buff config or something.

Hmm... How about a magical way to turn thaumcraft's tier 2 tools into upgrades that you can put on your tool? So, for example, "upgrade of the core" can be applied to pickaxes and hammers. Also, how about TT'sIchorium? Oh, somebody already suggested it. Tools that count as multiple tools can receive multiple types of these upgrades.

Interesting idea
Zinc and Brass are going to be triggered on ore dictionary. so you will have alloying brass in smeltery if FSP is installed.
