I'm struggling to think of what the advantage of using this is.
Right now, it still feels like there's no reason to go into the new materials, because all the stuff I've got from ExtraTIC is solidly pre-manyullyn, and climbing the TiCon tech tree to manyullyn is still just laughably easy. Certainly easier than getting the material for the added botania metals.
Can someone that's paying more attention to this mod than I am go over what features have been promised and not released? I know "an RF-powered smeltery" was a thing. Are materials getting new, custom traits? Are we getting a mana usage ability for botania metals? Is anything becoming something other than solidly middle-ground? Am I going to have to install weird mods that I don't want to touch like Metallurgy or Draconic Evolution to get anything interesting or worthwhile out of this?
I mean, I actually want to use this mod, and the last thing I want to get into is a "if you don't like the show then change the channel" conversation, and I understand Glassmaker has IRL responsibilities, but... is there something existing or (preferably) coming/announced that distinguishes this from some kind of theoretical uber-robust JSONables config?
Requesting the following for bow strings if possible
Witchery Fanciful & Golden Thread
Mariculture Golden Thread
Botania Spellbinding Cloth, Red Thread, & Mana infused Thread
Spellbinding cloth is also added by thaumic tinker
Golden Thread is also added by witching gadgets
Both of these are Thaumcraft addons
I figure golden thread would have a Higher draw speed and Lower durability with a higher arrow speed. I'd be fine with the botania cloth and mana infused thread could just be added to make enchanted bow strings.
In case you didn't know, the Spellbinding Cloth isn't a material, it's an item used to remove enchantments.
But the rest of those, absolutely yes. Perhaps Mana-Infused String could have the same Mana-Repair trait that the Botania metals will have.
Maybe proper arrow speeds underwater for the Mariculture one.

The planned features, off the top of my head, are:
Voidmetal: Thaumic and Warping
Manasteel, Terrasteel, Elementium: Mana Repair
Draconic Evolution: Not sure about the materials, but you'll also be able to use a Draconic Capacitor to apply the Flux modifier.
Fiery Ingots: Fire Aspect
Knightmetal: Higher damage to armored targets (maybe)
Desh: Most likely very high durability
HSLA Steel: Stronger version of normal steel?
Personally, I like the Metallurgy ones (if the traits have been fixed since I last used this with it) because it lets you make all sorts of special weapons and tools such as poisoning, withering, burning, stuff like that.
Also can anyone tell me what the hell Kroostyl, Drulloy, and RedArum are?

Iguanas tinker tweaks has a nice feature that changes the mining level of everything so that you have to use certain materials before you can mine certain ores. I did a little survival test with that and it was quite fun, I had to use materials that I would never use otherwise. It allows pretty much every feature to be disabled/tweaked so if you don't like the leveling system you can disable that. I also recommend disabling vanilla tools.
Currently the only thing I know of that makes this mod impossible to convert to a JSONables config is the effects that the nether metals from metallurgy have, for example: any tool that has a sanguinite part in it has a wither effect.

Metallurgy's the original mod this is meant to make compatible with TiC, and it's made by the same creator...
It's not weird, it just adds a mix of real and fantasy metals.
It's ridiculously easy to understand, and doesn't really do anything but add higher tiers of stuff to work for past diamond.
So I can't really understand how it could baffle you beyond understanding unless you've never used a furnace in Minecraft before.
Used to be I'd say, if you don't have metallurgy don't install extra TIC, now though... well, it's a mod for a mod, so if you don't want to have more options for tinker's materials, it's not for you, but if you do, you really should use it.
Honestly, I have heard nothing about that mod but how overpowered and balance-destroying that mod is. What kind of support would there be?
I.....dont quite know. I cant really explore Orespawn because of the alternate dimensions lagging the crap out of my PC. So, whatever, I guess you can ignore my thoughts on Orespawn there.

I actually tried to use Extra TiC and Metallurgy, and eventually, it crashed my game and glitched the textures to white boxes. I had to downright deelte Minecraft and reinstall it to fix that. Plus, Metallurgy has too many materials that are pretty useless in my view.
As it turns out, the actual HSLA Steel items aren't that much better than Iron, they only have slightly more durability, that's it. I think probably the best way to translate that would be to make it give say Reinforced 2 or the like.
I'm having trouble loading this, forge keeps crashing at the pre-initalizing stage with ExtraTic

Wait, are we able to suggest materials to add? Because I have a crap ton of ideas to spew forth, even the textures.
Not till the mods out of beta, even then its not likely after such a big update. Also I already asked him about new things a while back, glassmaker said he wasn't taking suggestions. But textures he might agree to if your willing to make them.
Is there a way to change the mining level of a specific material? I couldn't help but notice that A TiC pickaxe using RotaryCraft's HSLA Steel is showing stone-level mining ability. Considering that, in the real world, High Strength/Low Alloy steel is stronger and tougher than carbon steel (which is what I am assuming the RailCraft and Tinker's Construct steels are), it might be helpful to correct it in the configuration.
Glassmaker, any thought on adding magical crops tools?
Magical crops has its own ingots now(though it's seriously in flux so I don't know if it's a good idea to use them directly) and its tools have a couple of unique benefits I'd love to make into TiC tools some day.
Magical Crops tools give bonus weak essences(essentially fortune for only essences) when Mining(picks) harvesting plants(hoes) and I'm guessing eventually killing enemies(sword)
galacticgraft support yes.
I'm confused about SimpleOres compatibility...
Is it compatible with Fusion, which lets you make a couple of alloys with SimpleOres metal, or is it just the base mod...?
Do I even have the right mod? I'm using SimpleOres by AleXndrTheGr8st, and haven't even opened up the game yet...
Just use the basic simple ores 2, the only compatibility is the metals.
I'm struggling to think of what the advantage of using this is.

Is it just me, or is it impossible to rename tools created with certain materials in a Tool Forge/Station?
The charm of owning the great and powerful "material.damascussteel Mattock" wears off pretty fast.
Whenever I screw up and forget to name my tools upon creation in a Tool Forge, I used an Anvil.
