so..... now just to wait for naitien to check fourm and see this post and all the other ones, and I know your busy but check as soon as possible, oh and also, have fun at that lab thingy!
I think I have come up with a feasible way to construct the locomotives and rolling stock.
sitting over a crafting bench for hours is not very fun, and difficult crafting recipes are a downer.
What I'm imagining is this-
you take raw iron blocks (or steel) and place them over burning coal blocks (burning wood would work but would take longer) and they will turn red-hot. Collecting the red-hot iron blocks requires some form of tongs or heavy leather gloves and the red-hot iron block would then be placed under a hammer. The hammer would function similarly to a piston, ie drops when powered by redstone and rises when off. After 2-4 stamps the molten iron will change into a wheel/boiler plate/boiler tube etc. etc. etc. The hammer could be configured to toggle whether it stamps wheels/boiler parts/etc. After the part is stamped, you can collect it and place it onto a sort of 3-d blueprint. Each locomotive/piece of rolling stock would have its own blueprint and once every part was placed (you could borrow the code from snow golems here) the locomotive/car entity will spawn.
I believe this would be a more realistic alternative to wierdo crafting recipes which would probably require a 40-slot crafting table.

Naiten has said he is adding machinery for the use of building locomotives. You've probably guessed what he had in mind!
what? that makes no sense, it sneak right click. and if that was it, it has been changed.
It used to be that you needed to use an iron sword to remove the trains, now its only needed to remove the large trains, unless thats been taken out aswell.

I thought is was an Iron shovel or did that change?
Cannot remove, link/couple, and drive any engines in the 1.6.4 build. Shift left is not working. Use of tools does not work. Creative destruction does not work. Dropping it through the void does however

Not sure whats up.
Thatt was all fixed in the 1.7 updates I would update.
