Sorry for being vague; What I meant was that automation is a common term used on modpacks involving BC/RP2. This is one example of a really compact factory. Automations are a simplified form of Factories.
I ran into a bit of a showstopper - my Borer and Bevel gear GUIs are not changing variables serverside. I realize the solution lies in packets....and also that I have no idea how to use them.
Assuming the Borer is an Entity, you might be able to fix this with adding a few new NBT Tags, and linking the NBT tags to the GUI. As for the Bevel Gear, it might as well be the same, but being a Tile Entity. I haven't gone that far into the knowledge of Java programming/Minecraft modding, but these are just a thought.

This has some elements of that. Not in the sense of BC's "Factory" pack with Autocrafting and the like, but I have automining machines, for example.

I got the data sent and receiving. Now just to muck around with byte structures...god, this is a dumb system.

Including some kind of Obsidian factory as seen on screenshots? Because that would save tons of diamonds of labor (and lives).
You mean the pulse jet? That melts obsidian into blast-glass; it does not produce the obsidian. That said, an obsidian factory (lava+water from the pumps?) is a good idea, and will be implemented.
Something random that I made a few days back that seemed relevant.
It does not visually resemble any of the machines, so I am not sure about its utility as an item icon....my apologies.

When I looked up Blast glass, the first thing that came up was some method of recycling glass... Ooo...
(Second result was blast-resistant glass) Seems tough, why not add a tool to make it drop?

Haha, it's just something that seemed interesting to share.
On the other hand, I kinda got bored and gave it a shot. You don't have to use it. you are not forced to use it. But feel free to use it. Or ask for something else. Or nothing at all.
The gears' textures can be made the same color to fix Z-fighting.
That is what I did. I am now getting comments that I "really need more detailed textures instead of plain colors", though.
By the way, what Z-fighting were you talking about? I have made no mention of it here.

I would prefer to keep this mod "machinery-only"; one of the things I hated about EE and IC2 was the new tools. Additionally, I am rather averse to the potential of this becoming partially a "tools" mod, as those exist in extreme abundance. (And "MOAR TOOLS!!1!" kinds of mods are also - right or wrong - seen as the mark of a rather inexperienced modder.)

Oooh, I kind of like it. Not so sure about the font, but definitely interesting. It would probably be best to wait for a beta release (which is coming soon), so that you have the full selection of machines to see, refer to, and work from. (Also, having a bunch of things in the banner will likely draw more attention than just one.)
There will be some guidelines - mostly so I can keep track of instantiations and uses of the mod - but I will allow it within those, yes. More details will be created and given upon full release (the initial beta version may NOT be used in packs as I do not want in-development versions becoming the "main" [ie. most widespread] ones).
Ever play Portal 2?
i knew that bridge looked like something i'd seen before, what will happen if it runs out of power?
buildcraft compatibility would be nice'this looks like its going to be a great mod.

I don't see how having a screwdriver is a pain, actually. In addition, you can remove the screwdriver and add a new keybind that rotates the block on your crosshairs.

Thanks!
The font that I used seemed the most appealing on my font book for the image. I actually don't have a lot of tech/machine-styled fonts.
I actually was going to use a concrete background but found some issues trying to make the concrete texture. I don't use textures from the web, I make my own. Sue me.

The screwdriver is not the problem; you seemed to be hinting at a new tool (likely a new pickaxe) to remove the blast glass. That said, making them require diamond picks is a good idea.

Just by any chance, do you plan on making liquids or energy have a form of trans dimensional travel. I would like to drain lava from the nether to the overworld. Then have it stored, so i can take buckets out when i need to to fuel my smelting.

Past research I have done - I wanted to use nether lava to power BC combustion engines - seemed to indicate that you cannot have two dimensions at once loaded in singleplayer. That said, that was 1.2.5, and the integrated server as of 1.3 (and servers obviously can have both loaded at once) suggests this may have since changed.
Answering your question more directly, yes, if I can find a way to do it, both in terms of coding and in terms of logical/physical plausibility.

Now added: The fractionator - it makes jet fuel out of a certain blend of ingredients, which can be carried via fuel lines to engines and the pulse jet.
Was wondering whilst looking through this thread (Amazing mod btw, will definitely use along with all the other mods I mess with +1) Are you intending on keeping the default ironblockish texture? I was thinking that; especially for some of the more basic 'Steam' machines having a more worn-rusty texture. Sorry for the inconvenience feel free to just ignore me for being a nuisance. If not I can probably get someone to add this to a texture-pack, ozBillo's Battered old stuff for instance, it would fit quite well with the right textures.
Great mod overall, can't wait for the full release!

Nice job on the model!
Do the lines on the GUI have any purpose? They are confusing.

I was planning on keeping that visual style, yes, if for no other reasons than personal preference and mod-wide stylistic consistency.
That said, your idea about making a texturepack addon with alternate textures is a good one. If you find someone who makes those, I will feature it on the main page when I release the mod (as other mods, like BC, do).
Nice job on the model!

They were to give the "feel" of mixing the ingredients (also the reason for the random colors) and to give some sort of "techy" feel to it. Making jet fuel - one of the most refined fuels commercially available - out of ethanol, blaze powder, tar (from Soul Sand), ground netherrack, coal, and magma cream, with ghast tear solvent, is already tenuous enough.
By the way, I have fixed a number of the bugs, and am implementing a few new machines - more info on those soon.
The list of fixed bugs:
FIXED-can place engines "overlapping" mobs
FIXED-shift-clicking does not work on any container - crashes, so currently disabled
-but not yet intelligent
FIXED-floodlights "view skimming" another's beam cause MASSIVE fps drop, but no crash - made milder
FIXED-causes no light instead
KNOWN CAUSE-dark flash glitch now
FIXING-sound clipping with engines
FIXED-description texts are too cramped in the handbook
FIXED-itemblock blocks look wrong in inv (orientation)
FIXED-no itemblocks in creative
FIXED-gearboxes drop 2:1; bevels drop bedrock breaker
FIXED-some engine sounds not working
FIXED-meter giving client and server side variables
FIXED-some descriptions are too long, overrun textbox
One new bug, though, and one I doubt will ever be fixed: Pick block does not get the correct engine type, as that is stored in TileEntity data and thus "invisible" to pick block.
Hopefully new mod support upcomingtm in vanilla may fix it the pick block ignoring metadata
Your models and machines and mod overall are looking good! cant wait to get my hands on it :3
This is not metadata- this is Tile Entity data. It would be akin to using pick block on a spawner and getting the right type, or using it on a chest and getting a chest-with-contents, or using it on a sign and getting a sign with that text...

Are the texture's in the main post still the same? If so; i would suggest to redo the texture's, be course some of them are like they are done with microsoft paint. It would help a lot if you had some good looking texture's.
Not saying the mod is bad, nut i would like to see some good looking textures myself.
~TheExelot
Are you referring to the gray boxes...? Those were never going to be used, and have since been supplanted by 3D models in almost all the machines.

Yes NBT gets pretty confusing after a while.

Then you fall to whatever is below...hope you weren't using it to cross the Nether lava seas!
I saw some Z-fighting on the sides of the gears.
The image is just a cropped version of one of your uploaded screenshots.
I don't see how having a screwdriver is a pain, actually. In addition, you can remove the screwdriver and add a new keybind that rotates the block on your crosshairs.
When I was fooling around with learning to mod, I made something launch fireballs. Yes it's pointless and I'm only learning.
Thanks!
