- 2 new types of Kelp forest will generate in your world.
- 7 new types of seagrass will also spawn, or will be used to decorate you aquarium.
- 5 new sunken item blocks will decorate the bottom of the sea.
- 10 new types of coral fish were added to make the reef more alive.
Have a good week ...
Frag2000
actually, that will be 12 new reef fish. I finished 1 more after the official 10 i talked about, and that 10 didn't count the other 1 fish that is using one of the multipurpose models, totaling at 12 new reef fish.
you're welcome

Just to giving you a heads up! we've created this new shared account which we will use to make a new thread which we can all update information on. Very soon we will be removing all information on this thread and adding a link to the new one thread.

As I was telling Joe, last weekend I spent like 45 minutes with a friend of mine looking at the fish in a bay just to see what they were doing. If you dive and keep attention, you will notice that they act differently depending of their species. Since Minecraft adds a lot of random events, it make things very interesting.
As a small fish will hide in the sea grass when two barracudas are in the area, a large manta ray could pass by without being disturbed at all. Throw some bait and wait, and two bull sharks could show up after few minutes to investigate, to finally get interested in a swimming chicken. Then after circling it for a while, they could kill it at some point and swim to the bottom to eat the chicken meat that dropped. Since meat was in the area, they will wander there for a while. Then when the sun get too bright, they will move out in a deeper area.
Lot can happen ...
Just can't wait to start working on the fishing and the spear fishing as soon as the alpha is out. The current version is very strong already, but we still have a lot of work to do to finalize all the little bits that get on our nerves.
I tested the system with over 500 fish in deep sea ocean and did not notice any lag so far, each line of code was implemented with performance in mind. I think that we will all be alright with this.
Joe and I worked really hard to add plants, sunken junks and grass to the world generation. The Ocean has more life than ever now ...
I will keep you guys posted...
Here is a little screenshot I took tonight while testing ...

we'll consider it after the next update. for now we've got our hands full with all of the other new fish we're already adding plus new blocks, items & new terrain generation
On Another note:
Is anybody interested in helping us get nice in game screenshots of all the fish for our new thread once we release a new version? It could quite fun to try and hunt down 1 of every kind of fish in its natural environment to take its picture

I've got the Shaders mod and a few other mods that adds to the enviroment
I would love to give pictures, but my PC is getting fixed, and I'm using a crappy laptop (Can't use shaders, or at least it can't use good shaders), or in other words a craptop
Ive set up an air compressor with a redstone clock next to it, yet it takes forever to fill a tank. Is this normal?
yes, its normal.currently it takes about the same amount of time as it takes to fill a real air tank.
but we will be re-balancing it in the next update to make it easier, and editable in the config.
The Reef fish are here ... 11 species. The Reef fish has its own AI. They like to wander around coral reefs and kelp forests. They also tend to hang out together and be more discrete at night. Like their companionship? You can feed them and they will follow you around ... but watch your 6 since the barracudas also love them.
I cannot wait to have that lemon peel angel and the peppermint angel in my tank! You guys ROCK!
Quick question.. could you make it so that when sharks swarm waters looking for meat, smaller fish and barracudas go for it too? I would love to see a feeding frenzy!

Even if you will be able to feed the reef fish and the shark in the next Alpha release, a full hunger system is not in place yet. As I explained in my last Salmon AI movie, I was having one in place but I experimented with it and was not satisfied with the final result ...so I disabled the hunger system for now.
BUT ... I will re-add it for sure later on as a new feature release. I just need to work on the balancing, why keeping an eye on the CPU. I want the fish to be smart, but I need to be VERY careful about the CPU usage, which is not as easy as it sound.
The plan for now is to release smart fish, nice world generation and a strong fishing system as the initial "official" release. Than more will come over time ... hunger system, breeding system, adventure mode, new biomes ...
But when I will work on the hunger system, I will for sure keep this in mind. Thanks for the recommendation Starcraft1256!
I would like to know if this is, or is similar to your plan for the next upcoming updates:
1.6- Updates to 1.8, and fixes a whole bunch of bugs from 1.5, possibly adding 1 or 2 new fish
1.7- Fixes bugs from 1.6, maybe re opening the hunger system
1.8- Another major update, with multiple new fish, corals, and items.
If I am wrong correct me.
Here it is so far.
1.5 Alpha Mostly a 90% rewrite of the current 1.4. Few new fish, new items, new word generation and AI system. Coming out in the next few weeks.
1.6 BETA (version number to confirm) ... Which will have all the bug fixes from Alpha and the new fishing system. Some new items may squeeze in.
2.0 Official Release Content of the 1.6 BETA + all bug fixes.
... Then at this point we did not decide what will be next. But we have TONS of ideas...
