This mod will add (hopefully replace) the current rails with 3D models.
So far I've got the standard rails working well. I still need to repeat for detector and powered rails, but it's well under way.
I eventually hope to use this as a coremod in place of the rails so that it only changes rendering, not functionality nor does it add any blocks. I'm a bit new to the modding scene, especially Forge, so I may be thinking of something that wouldn't work, but we'll see.
cool, but the curves seem to curved for minecraft. and you should texture them to look more like the default, using that exact texture.
Other than that, it looks great!

i don't think that they are too curved, i like them
I know the texture needs work; I just threw together a basic brown and grey so I could finish the Techne models quickly. All I would have to do is add a bit of noise to the file (it's a single file for each rail), and it should be to your likings. I'll try to do that before I post another update.
The rails are probably not going to be any more 'blocky'. I know it doesn't follow the vanilla curved rails' texture well, but if I made it as blocky as that, it'd look terrible in 3D form. Part of the reason the curved rails look [somewhat] decent is because they are flat and you don't see any depth to them, thus not seeing any contrast.
As for Railcraft, I highly doubt I'll be making each one of those rails. CovertJaguar will be welcome to use this mod and change it for all his rails (giving credit), but there are so many of them, and some of them are direction-dependent too (vanilla rails don't care if it's North-South or South-North - they're the same). Honestly, it'd be easier for the both of us for him to develop it independently for his mod, as it would be a direct restructure of each rail block.
I played with the texturing, and while I do agree that the textures from before should not be used, a 'noisy' texture cannot be used without making it look worse. Some parts of the tracks overlap, and if they are not the same color, then that nasty rendering of two polygons in the same area occurs. Solid colors are all that I am providing with this.
I quite like this mod, I know it's still a WIP and it looks nice but I'm kinda worrying about a round corner in minecraft
You gotta let me know once this is downloadable because my friend would love this (he is obsessed with rails lol)
Even though it doesn't seem like a big mod I'll probably end up making a mod review of it.

Thanks; do not worry about the corners, as there are no actual corners. The rails are actually a bunch of rotated cubes intersecting. If you look closely at the rails, you can see the individual polygons.

Bah, did I say no corners? I meant no curves, sorry. I think you got the idea, though.
Also, I'm having a bit of trouble making the TileEntities update their metadata (which railtype it is) when a rail is placed nearby. I might have to hack in a fix for that if I can't get it to work. Updates may be delayed.

"Programmers never repeat themselves. They loop."

Again, thanks guys.

I'll be happy to make a showcase/spotlight on your mod when
yu post the link
Spectacularly Amazing! A very original concept, and I will be downloading the mod when its released!
Please update to 1.7.2, and I will download!
