the mod is awesome but 1 problem its kinda hard and annoying exploring with your army. they are pretty slow so most of the time i am waiting for them. can i suggest making them like the wolves, if they are on follow and if they get to far they should teleports to you or have a item that teleports them to you :D.
or you could do something similar to mount and blade. there like with you run into a battle or just need them you press like a button and the men that are set to follow will teleport to you
Can you make an option to exchange xp with your soldiers? The values would be up for you to decide. Im thinking 1 xp level would be 10% of a soldiers xp bar.
Hey I love your mod I was just wondering, what will be in the next update?
I am in the middle of updating to 1.4.6/1.4.7. However seems either Forge or MCP have moved around the folders a bit (I actually like that they have done this) which means I have to go through and change all my imports which is a bit tedious.
As fort features, I will be fixing a few small bugs (eg food not being removed when you feed soldiers), reviewing the attack routine (soldiers will should now not all attack the same enemy) and allowing users to define how far a unit should walk to attack enemies (normal, near or only if attacked)

make it configurable whether they attack all at once or they split up to attack
you know, a good idea would be if you could make a baron or other who would strictly raise morale, he raises morale 3 times the amount a regular soldier would, or if that is a little underpowered a weapon, the higher the morale, the more damage, max 2 times his original

We are not going to have weapons. Nerd boy must of said so 50 times.

I think he was talking about this "Baron" unit's "weapon" (as in, attack) doing extra damage depending on the total morale of surrounding troops, or something.
A unit that gives the troops great extra morale, is relatively weak defensively and offensively, but does more damage when you have more troops and better morale is what I was able to extrapolate. Is it a good idea? F#&% if I know, ask nerd-boy.
My additional input: Maybe make them a "squire" instead of a Baron. That way they're sort of like a sidekick unit, rather incompetent on their own, but able to help the group. That would also give nerd-boy an excuse to have the unit have at least some form of armor and a slightly better weapon. Like, maybe they could be a significantly more expensive tier 1 unit that more or less has the Man At Arm's armor, in-between the Man At Arm's and Militia's damage, and in-between the Man At Arm's and Sellsword's health along with potential cowardice and a supporting role.
Tone down the morale bonus to around 30-50% on top of a Knight's, scrap the extra damaging attacks when more teammates are near thing, make them flee from battles where there is more than three enemies automatically if there is less than a player, one soldier at max tier, two otherwise, or three Militia around, and also have them give you and/or other units some sort of boost.
Slightly boost the maximum health of other units, give you minor health regeneration, make other unit's health regenerate slightly while in combat, make other unit's health regenerate more quickly out of combat, make the player's equipment with durability degrade more slowly (equivalent to a rank of Unbreaking), make the player do more damage (equivalent to a rank of Sharpness?), or some combination of little effects like that. Unlike other units, you would probably have it so that an individual player can only spawn one of the units, for balance's sake, and then that unit would follow the player that spawned much more closely than other units on Follow (say, 2-4 blocks distance).
As for their appearance: Since Squires, going by the meaning of knight's trainees and/or assistants, are usually younger, they'll probably be a bit smaller scaled than other units. They would probably look more or less like a man at arms, but their tunic would have full sleeves and sides (sort of like a tier 3 unit's tunic but without full leg sides), and they could have a hood like Militia, and possibly drop the epic 5 o' clock shadow every single unit has. They could have a customizable knight's shield on their back.
Wow. Half an hour or more after seeing that comment, taking his idea, and toying with it, I made my own more thought-out and well-explained idea from it. ...Yay?

Black as the shadow that yet remains and Red for the blood that runs in our veins.
Idea: Make troops nameable.
Don't know if it's just me or not, but I like to name some of my things after characters/items, for example, I would like to name one of my archers "Legolas" and a knight "Aragorn".
Idea 2: Not sure if this is already being added or not, but I think there should be cavalry.
Idea 3: A kind of squads system, kind of like how Jagged Alliance works, and them nameable. Like, I would like to have a group called "Riders of Rohan"
i'd like to have a squad leader that you can name, if you have to name every soldier you would have to think in many different names but i agree with you.
You shouldn't have to name every soldier. It could easily be a config file with a long list of names that are randomly plucked from. Just do a google search for fantasy name generator, or better yet Game of Thrones name generator, to see what I'm talking about. I would love to see this feature added.
Give him time to update it when he and the update is ready. Can't forget that it was the holiday season so I am sure he spent time with his family as well. Just have faith.
Firstly, please stop all this off topic talk about Battlegear. This topic is for a different mod, and the focus should be on this mod. So just drop it.
I will not go through a quote everything but address a few recent questions
"Naming"
The original plan was to have the order displayed as a symbol like so
This would have given me enough room to have a text field with an optional name (that will default to a random name). However with the whole morale thing I can think of a nice way to display all the required information. I am also not sure how the symbols should look.
"People Asking About Updates"
Please be patient, unlike most, I havn't really had a propper holiday, this last couple of days (as well as actual christmas day) are all I have really had, and I spent those on the other side of the country. I am nearly done with the next update so please just be patient. And no, I don't know of any other alternitives (which is why I made it)
Here you go.
It is for Minecraft 1.8.1 and requires modloader (I think)
or you could do something similar to mount and blade. there like with you run into a battle or just need them you press like a button and the men that are set to follow will teleport to you
sorry bad English <3
Keep up the great work!
Youve missed alot XD I only started in beta 1.3_01 but still alot has been added
