Um, im having some trouble installing it using forge, maybe you could make the mod use modloader by resugmui (Not sure hoe to spell his name correctly)
Ok ive got it working now i was just using the reccomended build of forge instead of the latest...however making this mod use modloader would still be pretty cool
I don't really see a point in not using forge. With forge you have way more possibilities for your mods and it's still as compatible as if I would use ModLoader. And it's way more easy to make a mod SMP with forge than with ModLoader. I might make a only ModLoader version but then I don't think that it will be SMP compatible (maybe :P).
I don't think so, that would make it too easy to obtain living blocks. But since there is now the Revive Machine you shouldn't have any problems with it, because you can revive any block with it.
And living water blocks touching lava living blocks make an obsidian living block?
But I like the idea, since you are nomore able to "produce" obsidian that would be a good way to make you able to produce obsidian, instead of searching hours for obsidian.

Are you sure that you installed the latest minecraft forge (and correctly of course too :P)?
Try to download a clean version of minecraft (force update). Then open your minecraft.jar with an archiver, delete META-INF, put the files of minecraft forge in and then put the living blocks.zip file into the mods folder (not in the jar).
If it still doesn't work, please answer me and I'll have a look at it

Good news! Version 1.2.5 is out
I fixed tons of bugs and the revive machine should now be bug-less.
Also something really important, the blocks now have legs
Check it out ;)Blocks now follow their owner if they are "made" in the revive machine. You can also let them sit by sneaking + rightclick. Riding now only works for tamed blocks anymore.
wow thats a realy nice mod =). i would love to see the blocks/mobs spawn like other mobs. if so. ores might at random rtyr to seek you and get you to mine them ;).also lava blocks could instantly smelt things like sand --> glass. cobble --> stone... do the blocks spawn already?
