No idea. i took a brake from working on them but i will be returning soon enough. they are going to be one of the most difficult entities to program in this whole mod so it might take a little while.
I just dont think trails should be entities. www.minecraft...canonfodder000/ is how I would make it if i could code. Some blocks with sign properities and left behind like snow by snowmen...
Truthfully that would be the worst looking and functioning way of doing trails. because the vehicles move in all directions and are not just bound to 4 directions ,making them blocks isn't reasonable to do. add on to that i want to make some form of light sub which blocks would just ruin the water your in. it really comes down to whats easiest vs whats the best way. and while many would be fine with making them blocks , there are some myself included that would find that pretty lazy on the programmer's part. i would get for a novice modder to make them that because what i am proposing to do is by far the more difficult then most people could do. heck even im having a hard time doing it. but its the only way i see that will work and insure the quality of mod i am trying to make.

I'm with you in this one shortman. As much as I would like lighttrails, I would rather see them done in a realistic manner, than a half@$$ed version. And if it takes longer, then ill wait. Short man, I said this a while ago, and I'll repeat myself; I stand with you on whatever you want to do with this mod; it is YOUR take on this after all.

Edit: I looked it up and It will not be compatible with any mod that changes the model of the Player, including custom armor models(Armor will just look weird when riding a vehicle). what i mean by not compatible is that when driving a light jet/cycle/what ever the player is rendered as a custom model made by me to fit the vehicle, while it looks like the player it is not the players model and is only designed to work with vanilla stuff. I would love to make it compatible with all mods but its not possible given that the i have no way to figure out what model they are using for the player and no way to re shape it to the model i use. while it might run it will not look right riding a vehicle.

I don't have Testers. I make Public Releases when the mod is ready enough to have a tester use it. Because up until the point i release, i make so many changes to code that its not worth an form of long term testing. For example the tank. i could have you test it... but it doesn't do anything besides drive around and have its cannon spin. so by the time you start testing the version you will use will be obsolete.
Sorry this is late but I do agree with you, I would prefer the better looking one over just blocks, I t it's quality before faster release and I do have be thing to say though, maybe if you're having a tough time, make them blocks just to make sure they do everything you want them to do then make it what you want it to be, just a suggestion, you by no means have to do it.
I was teaching myself java, building up my skill to make a tron inspired mod called gridcraft, even registered a creeperhost server under that name. Looks like a much more talented developer beat me to it

Ramp blocks 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 gradients (auto height adjusting to surrounding ramp blocks)

Energy (liquid) for food/rendering
All blocks in grid are code blocks break into code fragments - research system
Simplified coding system - mindstorms/illumination software creator inspired
All blocks/items are created by coding - energy needed for 'rendering'
Upgrade items through code manipulation
ID Disc stores on back (not in inventory?) throwable + melee weapon, mining tool basic coding tool, own code manipulation.
Unique armour for each player procedurally generated seeded from player name (Helmet can turn invisible simulate the shows)
Blue/Red alignment
Reskin villagers as isos (for teh lulz)
I'm really happy I get to play with light jets and cycles far earlier than I thought I would.

I'd think over world tools wouldn't work because you'd be turned into code basically so things like that wouldn't work anymore, just my thoughts, sorry, video game physics are my specialty

eh but really its just easier and more compatible if it works with the normal stuff, besides i think Aether II moved back to being able to use normal pickaxes if i remember correctly from one of kings live-streams.

Im not really sure if i have any models need to be made but i do have some textures for a few things (Armor, Item, and Blocks textures) that you might want to try your hand at. theres not an overwhelming amount but it would keep you a little busy. just pm if you interested.
