I think the latter one you're talking about is Warp Drive. It's not been updated for 1.7 yet that I know of. And the first one sounds like Haribote's aircraft mod, which wasn't even updated to 1.6. Both of them are/were quite laggy and wouldn't play well with AW (in my opinion).
The Small Boats Mod, however, is still under development and the front page mentions something about an update soon. While you can't walk around on deck, you can change seats and that's very cool. They're not exactly battle ships or "Ancient" but they're a great concept.

Well I know The Small Boats Mod, i was using it some time ago with archimedes ships some years before (if i remember well there were in the same modpack or something.) But well, while they are good, they are no good for any naval combat style. And thats what i would love to see in the world of minecraft! Destroyable ships that could withstand some damage and have cannons! One man controling the ship, an other the cannon and other sitting in seats firing their bows. Something like that. And if not being able to walk on the ship while its running at least be able to swap places between the control of the ship and its cannons or its seats.

Yes, some of the NPC AI is still a bit off. I'm thinking what you are seeing is the hostile-entity-alert broadcasting feature... basically if any of your NPCs can see a hostile mob or has an attack target, they will transmit this information to other nearby NPCs. Combat NPCs respond to this by aiding in attacking the target, while worker / non-combat NPCs will respond by going towards their designated upkeep point.
While the idea behind this function was to add a slight bit of intelligence to the workers so they didn't get munched on by zombies, it appears that due to a bug (or perhaps peoples setups are just weird) that often the AI gets triggered even though there is no combat going on -- resulting in the workers all cowering around their upkeep point. Strangely I have never seen this issue on my test server, but I have a giant wall around our town and the entire thing is lit up with torches.
I've been trying to get some testing done on the NPCs lately, but have not had much luck (on the time / organization end of things). Hopefully I'll get some time to look at these soon and implement some improved AI. Perhaps this weekend
Until then, build some walls. Big walls. Light everything up. Don't use combat NPCs anywhere near the workers. Hopefully it'll be cleaned up soon.

Don't use patching tools? If that is what is causing the problem, that is what needs to be fixed. Either don't use the tool, or contact the author to get the problem resolved.
This mod looks really cool! Are there like NPC generated castles etc. to attack?
YOU can create castles that generate with NPCs (either friendly or hostile). The mod includes all of the tools to design and enable your own customized world-generation structures. See the instruction manual and/or the Structures creative tab.
However the mod does not ship with any world-gen structure templates. They will be available as separate downloads when they are completed.

Like in the 1.6.4 version? Yeah they're cool. I've been hanging out for them too. They're definitely on their way but until they're released you could try making some of your own (you can put enemies in them and get them to spawn in your world, following the instructions in the manual like Shadowmage said) or you could go back to 1.6.4 for the moment.

I've been using Optifine with random mobs and haven't been having any trouble. I'm assuming it's the random mobs that's causing the problem so I guess you could try Optifine, unless there's a way to exclude some entities in MCPatcher's random mobs settings?
I'm sure you've been asked this a lot, but I cannot for the life of me find any information on your information regarding public modpacks. May I use this mod in a public modpack?
- From the start I've been playing A.W. mod together with a bunch of other mods, some of which create new hostile entities which may or may not be recognized by the NPCs as a threat. E.g. I have Zelda Sword Skill+ bringing in a new bat-type mob Keese. They spawn easily anywhere, but the Combat NPCs don't recognize them as hostile (on the side, i tried to add Keese into the combatNPC target list, didn't seem to work out as i thought, guessing i'm not doing it right yet). While the guards don't engage, i can't tell if the workers are not affected by it.
- I'm still not sure if some underground caves are the reason why my workers picked up hostile signal.
- After clearing the mobs around, I notice that the guards always lose the aggro, but they never get back to their combat order route. they all go "wander" mode.
- To reset both the Combat NPC and workers, I just need to quit and reconnect to the world, then the combat NPCs will return to their post, and a "Z" with a baton would get the workers back to work.
Hope these bits of info could help the development. I'll continue to post here when I pick up anything more. : )

Hi Ass, welcome to the forums. My cow farm's definitely working. So is my wheat farm. So what happens if you try making a hammer and working the farm yourself? (The hammer has to be in work mode, not rotate mode. Info for how to change hammer modes is in NEI and the Instruction Manual). Also, you're definitely using the latest version, right? And you've tried putting bonemeal in the lower resources slot so that the wheat ripens more quickly?
If you've tried all this, you could try posting some screenshots so I've got a better idea of how to help you.

Apologies if I'm way off with this but I'm wondering if you're trying to load one of the old structure packs? There have been a lot of changes with the way Forge handles biomes recently so, until or unless Shadowmage can dong me on the head and call me a ninny, my suggestions are to make sure nothing's in your config/ancientwarfare/structures/included folder, then make sure you've updated Forge to the latest, and updated your biome mods to the latest as well. Particularly if you're using BiomesOplenty.

been waiting for something like this for a long time!
- From the start I've been playing A.W. mod together with a bunch of other mods, some of which create new hostile entities which may or may not be recognized by the NPCs as a threat. E.g. I have Zelda Sword Skill+ bringing in a new bat-type mob Keese. They spawn easily anywhere, but the Combat NPCs don't recognize them as hostile (on the side, i tried to add Keese into the combatNPC target list, didn't seem to work out as i thought, guessing i'm not doing it right yet). While the guards don't engage, i can't tell if the workers are not affected by it.
- I'm still not sure if some underground caves are the reason why my workers picked up hostile signal.
- After clearing the mobs around, I notice that the guards always lose the aggro, but they never get back to their combat order route. they all go "wander" mode.
- To reset both the Combat NPC and workers, I just need to quit and reconnect to the world, then the combat NPCs will return to their post, and a "Z" with a baton would get the workers back to work.
Hope these bits of info could help the development. I'll continue to post here when I pick up anything more. : )

Hi Ass, welcome to the forums. My cow farm's definitely working. So is my wheat farm. So what happens if you try making a hammer and working the farm yourself? (The hammer has to be in work mode, not rotate mode. Info for how to change hammer modes is in NEI and the Instruction Manual). Also, you're definitely using the latest version, right? And you've tried putting bonemeal in the lower resources slot so that the wheat ripens more quickly?
If you've tried all this, you could try posting some screenshots so I've got a better idea of how to help you.

Apologies if I'm way off with this but I'm wondering if you're trying to load one of the old structure packs? There have been a lot of changes with the way Forge handles biomes recently so, until or unless Shadowmage can dong me on the head and call me a ninny, my suggestions are to make sure nothing's in your config/ancientwarfare/structures/included folder, then make sure you've updated Forge to the latest, and updated your biome mods to the latest as well. Particularly if you're using BiomesOplenty.
