ANOTHER EDIT: I was wondering if you will have the sky islands that were in the movie, because those were one of my favorite parts. I understand it could be tricky to code, so no big deal if not.
Please give us some more details, such as programs, experience, and examples.
we plan to have features be enabled or disabled via the config file, by enabling the RPG element to the mod you would have to create multiple different machines to analyze unobtainum ore in order to scan the skies above for a planet (Pandora) rich with the desired mineral, with that option disabled you only need to construct the ship

While I had the idea, for changes to take effect you would need to restart Minecraft. I was actually looking into creating a program for editing cfg files.

not only that but we will have some options such as being a na'vi or an RDA soldier be changeable via an ingame menu, but anything such as block IDs, item IDs, and addons will have to be through the configuration file located in the config folder created by forge, eitherway we will have many features be activated through an ingame menu but i cannot guarantee anything as of yet
Thought I would share this with you all.
I have recently been working on AvatarTech, which is the tech aspect of the mod. I know updates are rare, so I'm hoping this shows we are still hard at work!
First off:
The 'Infometer' (name TBD). Point the item at a mob/block and you will now have access to it. At first, it shows just the basics. The more time you have one near you, the more info is unlocked. The gui is WIP, so buttons and all will be much nicer in the finished project.
Here is the Advanced Mechanical Engine GUI. In AvatarTech, there are 2 types of engines, Mechanical and Electrical. More info can be found in the post. It takes two fuels, lava and water. You can move these into the engine with a bucket or waterproof piping. While it has no chance of exploding, it can overheat and stop working. To stop overheating, either A) make sure there is plenty of water or add a heat-module.
In this one, you can see two basic mechanical engines powering a compressor. Compressors (texture is temporary) compress metals into a finer form, allowing for them to have greater uses. One compressed metal can be turned into a different metal of the same type. More info on this can be provided later.
Here you can see the Liquid Containement Unit. It is a multiblock structure. (If it is 3x3xy, then it is a unit). If it is anything less then 3x3 (x and z), then it is simply a Liquid Container. This is how we store liquids. Iron containers can hold lava and any other liquid, while Copper Containers will melt if lava is stored in them. Wooden containers are capable of holding small amounts of water, and are therefore inefficient.

Im debating on two things as of now (ill add a poll)
1. Should it be an RPG like Tale of Kingdoms where you choose between RDA or Na'vi?
2. Should it be a world type or a new dimension?
I plan to make the avatar chambers (if you look on the 3 page of the spreadsheet you'll see ive listed the idea), after i finish the initial mod itself. Such as the mobs/items. Thanks!
ok everyone its been a long time since we have had to do this but... we require people to help out, we need a new texture artist, new modeler, and what would be very helpful, someone to write AI, now yes, commonly we would have the people needed to make this all done within a week at least, but recently each of our members of cube modding have started to disappear without a trace as to when they will return, and due to this change of events, we need to get new memebers who has the time to create the things we require, and due to the ammount of work that needs to be done, i will explain some of it so those that don't want to take on the responsibility will know exactly what they need to do.
Texture artists: so far there's around 1000 untextured items that need to be made, many complex, others simple
Modelers: each mob needs a new model with proper rotation point locations and texture mappings
AI programmers: this would be the most complex task for those that wish to do this, but, each mob needs a complete rework of their AI aside from some key details
i know this seems like a large task but those that do offer their services, i thank you dearly and hope that soon we will have the first beta version of this mod released, thank you for reading and understanding
Now aside from the beg for help up above, i have finished making something special for Pandora, now if you decide to travel to pandora, you need and i sincerely mean need an air mask to survive the harsh environment, else suffocation is a serious issue.
Max posted above that the staffs have been 'finalized' but they havn't, staffs are something that the navi will use to call upon the powers of Eywa to aid them with whatever task they need, and that can be from summoning rain to stop fires, or healing/protecting you from harm, but the staffs can only have limited uses, while the 'faith' empowered items allow you to call upon the full strength of eywa to create a shield to block out damage, to summoning the great leonopteryx to assist you in battle.
Now finally, ive added something that will be part of world gen, but its main purpose is to slowly repopulate the banshee and leonopteryx population, each will trigger on right-click and after one hour will hatch into either a banshee, or the great leonopteryx itself, banshee eggs are easy to come by, simply climb to the top of a large tree and you will find a nest with maybe two eggs if your lucky inside, the leonopteryx is even rarer, but if you do happen to find one, be wary for its mother is nearby and will attack if the egg is even touched (killing a normal leonopteryx will also spawn an egg below where it dies)
