Due to great enthusiasm from the minecraft community this mod is now under construction, however help is needed, I understand a bit about modding minecraft, but not enough to be able to complete this mod.
DayZ Mod is a mod for Arma 2, I have recently been playing this and thought that it would fit in minecraft really well, so I thought maybe it could happen. DayZ mod has four main components Scavenge, Survive, Mine and Slay

Scavenge
Most items normally obtainable in Minecraft would have to be found, in randomly generated abandoned cities, towns, mines and various other locations. Crafting however would still be available, but Tools are required to mine. Many new items would be added, such as:

• GPS - May Not Happen
• Canned Foods
• Water Bottles
• Cans of water/ soft drinks
• Guns
• Fuel
• Many other items

Cars and other vehicles, would also have to be added, but most vehicles spawn crashed and unusable. That is why you have to find things like, engine pieces, tires and steering wheels.

Maps
Maps that are created by users, will not show anything. Only maps that are found will show most of the current area.

Survive
Surviving is something that is already in minecraft, but now it is going to get harder. The only mobs that will spawn are zombies. Zombies will live during the night and day. There would be several types of zombies including:
Hopper
The hopper is a zombie that just hops around like a frog, but moves very quickly if you are spotted

Crawler
Crawlers are zombies that crawl around in the grass and difficult to see, crawler in game shown below


Zombie
Zombies would be just like normal minecraft zombies, but they can only hear and smell very well, their eye sight is very terrible. This means you can walk right past them without them noticing you, but if you make a noise they will come after you.

Two Headed Zombie
This zombie is every minecrafters nightmare, running into this is usually the end of your life, but the beginning of another zombie.

Mine
Mining will require you to have tools
e.g. you would need a shovel to mine dirt, a axes to mine wood and a pickaxes to mine stones/ ores.
This means you cannot break blocks with your hand, so you have to find a town/ city/ mine to gather some materials to craft tools. Tools can be found but are less common than materials

Slay
If you play multiplayer, you will be able to kill other players. Doing this however could turn you into a bandit (Makes your skin change), this title cannot not be removed (May change). Slaying zombies is also another feature, but shooting a zombie can attract many other zombies (Depending on how loud the gun is) so it is a risk to kill zombies same with players.

First icopy risugami's ModLoader into the minecraft.jar
Then copy all the files from DayZ mod.rar into minecraft.jar
Delete Meta-INF folder

If you could make any textures for food, weapons or the zombie it would help greatly. The zombies use the same texture as the default currently.

Poll has been added, I would also like to hear your opinion, on mobs. e.g. Their Health, Attack Strength and Speed. I need people to help model the zombies I can't model very well.

i had an idea. for the hearts/damage thing, if you got hit by a zombie it could possibly make you bleed like in dayz, this would trigger a poison ( not for realisticness but bcause it does what bleeding in dayz does. the poison buff would have to beslowed down though because minecraft poison can kill you pretty quick. the buff would be permanant until you used a bandage. you could use the glass bottles filled with water used for potions as canteens because you already can drink the water bottle, you only would have to add a thirst meter.
The food wouldnt help you regen, but it would heal you a little bit and fill up your hunger, the hunger should also drain slower. The zombies should not deal too much damage but only like 1/2 - 1 heart because of bleeding. These are just some ideas that i had to make this more like dayz. Hope you like my ideas and i cannot wait until this is released

EDIT: what about deleting 1 leg of the zombie so it will look more crawler-ish or a had or something for it to look cool

Thanks for your opinion, I think I will make one leg half the size so it looks like it has been cut off. It is possible as well that I might make zombies that fall to far turn into a crawler zombie

I will try to add a bleeding buff, that will make you slowly die. But zombies would deal normal damage, because if they do less damage it will probably make the game to easy

Looks good but perhaps you should focus on making it a normal zombie survival mod rather than attempting to mimic DayZ, having a GPS in Minecraft sounds silly unless you plan to create the whole arsenal of weapons/equipment.

Either way I'm always down for anything zombie related.

GPS systems may not be in the mod, but a way too view the map and the direction on the in game screen (Like minimap mods except it requires you to have a map and a compass in a special inventory slot)

P.S your the reason I found out about DayZ I have been watching your youtube channel since about episode 31 in your minecraft series

Crawler has been added ingame, screenshots in the main post. Plus an aphla version has been released only containing the crawler, please tell me if they attempt to attack the you the player or not

I love the screenshot of the crawler, its missing leg makes me think of locational damage (no idea how possible that is).

i understand your point but in dayz, a zombie hit doesnt drop your blood to 9000 it drops it by like 100 and you bleed.

I don't know if i installed it right but i get stuck on the mojang loading screen and my minecraft fails
please help i really want to play it

This mod looks epic! I have a question are you planning to add a backpack model for the characters?
Also If you need help with creating models (like mobs or models for items n stuff) let me know!
I have some of my work posted on my PMC account just as a reference of what I can make.

I have an important question.
Is there going to be a prone button where you lie on the ground? Also, are the weapons gonna have an ironsight, and finally, is there going to be a HUD like the actual one?

By the way, this looks like it'll be a good mod. ^^
