I thought that the Heli mod was neat, but this will turn Minecraft inside out! Can't wait!
One piece of advice, though. DON'T simplify this mod if people are confused, frustrated with the complexity, etc. If they don't want to spend the time doing it, they can just go ahead and uninstall the mod and move on.
Alas, I don't know the slightest about BattleTech. It's a shame, too, because it appears that BattleTech has the type of Mechs I enjoy. Large, Bulky, Slow Moving, and POWERFUL. Not that Gundam-esque crap. If I wanted to look like a Human, I'd just BE a human!
As for that guy confused with the phrase "BUMP", it stands for "Bring Up My Post". It's used to make the thread higher on the list of threads, possibly bringing it more attention.
Yeah... I was the confused guy. Just BTW, in the future, mine will be completely customizeable, from the legs, to the chassis, to the weapons. Certain chassis will slow you down more, but have a base armor higher. Also, I'm planning to (maybe) add more ores, power crystals, and add mech armor, including obsidian, titanium, and other types of armor!
I'm quite worried about how the Mechs will traverse over rough land. I mean, the average Minecraft map comes with many, many, MANY sort of steps, holes, etc. Trees are everywhere, and water is abundant.
In response to this, I say someone should create a Valley generator specifically for this mod. It will have mountains with sort of winding valleys, it will have large plains, and some rivers. Land perfect for tromping Mechs.
Also, you should have it so that when a Mech comes in contact with Wood and Wooden Planks, they break, either leaving a block behind or having it completely destroyed. That'd make stomping through an NPC that much more entertaining. xD

The plan in my head was to have 'Mechs treat 1-block elevation changes like the PC treats stairs or slabs. Also, 'Mechs would have a rather large collision box, so small, deep holes wouldn't really be an issue. as for water, anything over 3 blocks deep is a problem. In fact, according to the BattleTech site, sometimes 'Mech pilots stand their 'mechs in shallow water to cool them off while firing.
I really like the idea of destroying trees by walking through them! It would work too, since you could do that in MechCommander.
The plan was to make the mod as close to BattleTech as possible, so simple is out! If people want to know how to do it, they can RTFM (read the fine manual) I post with it.
BattleTech is definitely proof that America can do fighting robots better than Japan. If you're really interested in BattleTech:
Ya, I know next-to-nothing about actual Mechs. All of that comes from Google, and my real-life Google (My friend who does the art). After this, my next project is, guess what, make a real life m***! HELL YEAH!

A heat bar for weapons that has to cool, but cools FASTER in water. DO IT DO IT DO IT

Believe me, I think ANY large bipedal warmachine would knock down trees xD

Ah, I see what you did there.

YES. I loved the Mechs in Chromehounds, so I think I'll love BattleTechs.
I have to agree with that, and I am planning UBER MACRO table. Take Iron blocks, make a 3 x 3 square to get a mech crafting table. You can charge mechs, make mechs, and disassemble them there. That's what I'M planning to do eventually. Or, maybe even have it so mech parts are blocks, and you build it in the real world! Like Snow Golems!
To make the parts, I would suggest a maybe a 6 x 6 crafting bench. Something big enough to be a challenge to fill, but small enough to be done and still have resources left over.
...Or, you could go overboard and do 10 x 10. xDDD

I think the largest it may go is 1 row larger than chest size, just because of the GUI size. That's still 36 slots, which is a lot. I really like that Idea, and will run it by Oblivimancer.
Stygander, I love the idea of using the Ender Pearl for the lasers. We'll see what we come up with. Nothing is set in stone at this point.
Speaking of lasers, what kind of weapons exist in the BattleTech universe?
And yes, this is relevant. After all, most will appear in the mod, am I correct?
All will, actually. Here's the breakdown:
AutoCannon: Basically a massive machine gun that fires explosive, armor-piercing tank shells.
Flamers: massive flamethrowers.
Gauss Rifles: Use magnets to propel a metal slug at very high speeds.
Lasers: fire beams of light. Cause damage by superheating a small area of the 'mech.
Machine Guns: Standard machine gun. used primarily to attack infantry.
Missile Launchers: fire racks of missiles at targets.
Particle Projector Cannons (PPCs): Launch bolts of either ions or protons. Easily the most effective BattleMech weapon.
Also, some Inner Sphere 'Mechs mount either axes or swords with depleted uranium edges for greater cutting power.
That could be nice! Could a see a sample of his work? Just PM me if so.
SMP compatibility is, in my opinion, about 80% of this mod. It will probably be SMP compatible from the start.
this is two mobs he did they are spiders
what they look like in game
Holy crap.
Now, THIS is what I'M looking for!

BattleTech Official Site
MegaMek (A java port of the boardgame)
Switch weapons:F
Shoot:Click (Maybe) or H
Walk:Same a moving a normal.
