If anyone remebers me someone can take over my space station project I got lost in page 40 something and can't remeber where i was so I'll just wait until awesome mod is done for now but I'll be watching every now and then ... like a creeper sssssss...
come on man, get active an build!!
P.S. -hint for lurkers go on the futurecraft forums and checkout our minecraft server (no it dose not have the mod, yet)
I just saw the thing about shipyards on the other forum, and I think that's a really good idea. Perhaps to balance it you would have to supply 120% of the resources needed for the ship. It would save a lot of time, and as a bonus, it's realistic (as far as interplanetary spacecraft can be realistic). After all, the admiral/Hegemon/Supreme High Overlord wouldn't go and build ships him/herself. He/she has people (henceforth refered to as 'construction minions') to do that. Maybe some large ships such as assault ships or super dreadnaughts could only be built at a shipyard. This would provide incentive to construct bigger and better facilities so they could construct bigger and better ships. The production of an assault ship should take weeks, but dropships could be built in minutes on an assembly line. Millenaire has demonstrated that NPCs can build relatively complex things. This would be sorta like that, only instead of building lame things like bakeries they can build supercarriers. I would have posted all this on the forum but I don't have an account there.
how would the shipyard NPCs know what to build would you have to chose from a set list of ship designs, or would you have to manually build one of the ships first and then save the design for the ship to your shipyard. i like my second idea better because it would allow you to have ships unique to your server, and it would make it easier to mass produce those ships.

I agree. If the shipyard was organized into many 'docks' (think about parking spaces), with a ship under construction in each one, then you could put a ship in the first dock in each row, and the NPCs would duplicate it in all the other docks in that row.
I'd like to suggest another FTL engine: The Space Warper. Basically, it creates a "Bubble" in space time, that allows you to zip through space at faster than light speeds. This would require a ZPM for power, since this is a very fast engine, and requires vast amounts of energy. This seems like a better way to harness the ZPM's power. The cool thing is, all of this is based on fact. So if someone wanted a factual engine, this would be the one for them! (Albeit expensive) If you wanna learn more about the science of this theory click here. I'd appreciate feedback on it from anyone who posts.(Non-trollingly of course) I did register on Futurecraft Forums, but I have to wait 7 days before posting anything, and I needed to get this idea out now. So please comment, criticize and all that good junk ;D Cameron Out!
EDIT: I also suggest using this API for sitting on blocks. You can code it to sit on almost anything you want :biggrin.gif:. Seatable API is here.

The plan is you will design ships like you were in creative mode, only you are moving around holographic blocks. You will also be able to do stuff like copy-paste and pull up user submitted schematics. When you've got it the way you like you pay the shipyard in materials and whatever the construction fee is and machines go and assemble your ship piece by piece. You can also save the ship design and use it to make a fleet.

This sounds good, as long as the planning thing is relatively easy to use. If it's like in 'real' Minecraft it would be fine. I love the idea of huge construction droids swarming over half-completed ships.
On a totally unrelated note, I have an idea for a personal weapon: Cip-Quads (reciprocating quad blasters). These are huge, epic machineguns use by ARC heavy gunners in Star Wars. More information (and pictures) can be found on their Wookieepedia page.

'Factual' is debatable. This is an engine that is theoretically possible. That doesn't necessarily make it any better than hyperdrives, warp drives, skip drives, portals, General Products hulls, or any of the other ways SciFi ships have of getting around the lightspeed barrier. It's still a cool idea, though.

What is physics but a bunch of theories? :tongue.gif: It's currently the only theory that supports FTL travel :biggrin.gif: But your right it doesn't make it the best. Just thought it'd be cool to have a ship that is "Theoretically" legit! xD
EDIT: Except wormholes, but thats spacial and not really traveling faster then the speed of light. And is more theory based than the warped bubble.
Back with more minecrack ideas.
I thought of something, Why dont we make it so that your spaceship career is separate from your use of a server. That would make it so transferring from ship to ship and fleet to fleet is easier to manage on the individual basis (This way, if you "Axidentally" end up on another servers ship you dont end up in a confusing situation (You flew out of your server, on a ship that doesn't belong to it. So what do you connect to now to keep your stuff!?!?!?)
Two: Make it so that when you are waiting through FTL travel you get a screen similar to the old Xcoms Geoscope screen. With your spaceship being a tiny white geometric diamond traveling along a set path.
Ftl Random events (Running into asteroid fields. Mine/blow/ram our way through. You ran into a ship that was also traveling in your general area, Do you wish to enter combat?)

I'm curious, where did you hear that idea from? It's something I've theorized myself but didn't know the idea was out there in any tangible way.
I've always thought of photons as being simple linear standing waves in a far smaller form/strata of matter (space?). This would perfectly explain their apparent wave/particle behavior if you understand what a standing wave is.
As such; I theorized that if such a standing wave could be safely generated around a ship, and done in just the right way, that resulting standing wave "bubble" would at least travel at the speed of light (perhaps) thus allowing a ship to travel at light speed and without the relativistic effects usually attributed to something moving that fast since the ship would not be moving against the friction of space while inside of the bubble. Attaining the ability to generate the bubble, safely stay within it while it moves then dispersing the bubble at the correct location would be some of the engineering challenges. And who knows what effect there will be on "time" inside of a true vacuum within such a standing wave...
As such; I don't know that this method would produce FTL travel, but at least it should allow for travel at or near Light Speed. Which right now in the real world would be a huge improvement. :smile.gif:
I somehow don't think that photons would have the energy required to accelerate a ship like that. What it seems like your doing is essentially "riding" the wave of photons. That wouldn't work, as you're forgetting, as far as I can tell at least, that if you generate the standing wave, then it will just go around, through, or bounce off the ship. IT wouldn't have enough energy to move the ship.
At least, I think that’s how it goes...
But even still, you’re trying to push a ship using a wave/beam/whatever-you-wish-to-call-it of light.

The light from a star could not push your ship, but "Solar wind" pulled ships have been a theorized alternative to nuclear bomb powered ships for getting between two planets. It would technically require you to stay near a star constantly if you want to have the fastest trip to your goal. It would be an interesting method of travel since the shortest path wouldn't be the fastest, but the trip that takes you through the most densely populated areas of space to get your goal.
But battlefury13, your ship could use some work.

Now that I look at the picture instead of the name, I think it needs more windows and more of a curved look.
You may want to look at ComputerCraft for the ship computers, it may make less work for you in the future.
Also, how long has this mod been worked on?
I've looked at computer craft. It is cool.

Probably, fly giant ships could be a problem. And I'm back! been busy with a short story and ****...

Well I'm just an old fart here...like 500 years in internet time.

Depends on how well regular Minecraft works for you. I can't say for sure this will run better, but it shouldn't run too much worse.
