Also, this is absolutely, beyond any shadow of a doubt incredible, amazing, and just plain genius. Ever since I started Minecraft I have wanted to be able to build things I could move around like vehicles, ships, etc. This is almost what I have been wanting and a great leap in the direction of it.

can you make the controller block more expensive? I want to do a survival island and get off on my ship, but it's too easy to get. can the recipe involve redstone and iron? maybe a diamond too?

PLEASE tell me that this mod can work as a stand-alone server (bukkit) Plugin!!?!!
I mean, the custom items aren't really necessary, players could just use Signs like MoveCraft did. The controls would have to be completely different too.. But other than those 2 factors, couldn't this work as a server-side plugin, with no client mod?
If this works in SMP someday, Minecraft will never be the same! lol
Pistons work outside of the airship, dunno about within
Bug report: glas on the borders of a ship stops its forward movement. You can go forward, but it won't show it. Other things on the ship that won't go forward: wood, bed, glass, me
If *THIS* is the FIRST released version of this mod... holy ****! The possibilities for this are freaking endless and, I think, will change much of MC for the better. I think when (if? I guess) chests and torches and that can work while its in flight (now that I think about it, as long as chests and furnaces hold their items in flight itd be fine) then this will be the number 1 mod in all of MCland. I'm just in awe!!!
Also, suggestion (though I'm guessing its been suggested before) - different "modes" of travel would be nice. Sort of like what movecraft has - ship, submarine, airplane, airship, etc.

We need a block that tells you when a vehicle is a vehicle
Thruster: Turns on when powered by redstone and consumes fuel. Applies a force in a specific direction. Could be propellers like you said but I'm just gonna call them Thrusters for now.
We need some way to make all Thrusters consume fuel from one location so you don't have to physically go to every one. Perhaps...Engine and Pipes? (Say the thruster is on a wing, you can't refuel that)
Something to reduce weight. Perhaps hot air and a wool balloon.
Every ship should have
a weight
a mass and
a center of weight
a center of mass
The ship would calculate acceleration with a = F/m, F being the total Force from the thrusters at the time(a vector value) and the mass. If the force vector does not pass through the center of mass the ship would rotate.
How to pilot the (air)ship:
You would connect all thrusters with redstone to one location(Like a cockpit). So... say you had 3 levers.
One turns on a bunch of Thrusters near the back of the ship facing back. These are your main propulsion. They push you forwards.
The second lever powers a group of Thrusters at the back but a bit to the left. When on they shift the force vector so it's not passing through the center of mass. Thus causing the ship to rotate to the right as it moves forwards.
The third one is the same as the second but on the opposite side.
Fuel Consumption means it won't go on for ever and ever.
Center of Mass vs. Center of Weight.
Maybe you would want the Center of Weight to be below the Center of Mass so the thing doesn't capsize.
Oh and buoyancy.
0 = air.
100 = water.
Buoyancy is determined by the volume in relation to the volume it's in.
So you would want to design your vehicle with this in mind.
When making a flying machine you would want a buoyancy of around 0 because then you don't have to worry about gravity.
A boat would want a buoyancy of around 50-75. Less bouanycy then water means it floats.
A submarine would want about a 100 for similar reasons to why flying machines want 0.
A car would want >0.
A car that drives at the bottom of the ocean would want >100.
I've been having the same problem in which the mods won't install. I did everything you guys told me to do (place zip file in .minecraft/mods)
But it wont work.
You've got the wrong version, ModLoaderMP is not required anymore, as of 1.7.3.0.2.
I have been looking for a mod like this forever! Finally I have found one. This is an awesome mod by the way. I have a feeling that making a ship out of two block might be hard to stay on.

Do dispensers work on it? IE can they fire arrows?
Do pistons work?
Can TnT that is part of it be activated?
Can TnT break the airship?
