Oh, where's your sense of adventure? You should NEVER discount an idea forever.
the vashta nerada server no purpose what so ever. they would be annoying to code and benifit very little to the mod. The time spent coding them could be used on a much much much better idea.
As for sense of adventure.... the vashta narada dont really have anything adventurous about them... you walk on a shadow and your dead. Can you imagine how annoying that would be for most players. Just walking around then WHAM, your dead
someone said to put something bellow bedrock. how about homo-reptilia colonies, they would be nutral until atacked, then the entire colony would be after you!
Silurians are something we are considering, but you cannot put anything below bedrock.
with re-generation, is it going to happen when you are close to death i.e. 1/2 a heart left? or is it going to happen once ann your hearts have gone, like a substatute for respawning? cos with the new food bar it would be anoying to waste one of your re-gererations when you can heal yourself with the food bar. just my opinion
If I've said these already, it's because everyone keeps not noticing them.
-The Tenth Doctor said that the TARDIS was grown, not made. So then might one make a piece of a TARDIS, maybe the ribcage or similar part? Then you'd have to wait until it builds itself. With lots of Glowstone, of course.
-Regarding the skins after regeration: could the members of this forum and of this thread compile a database of possible skins that one could take on after regeneration? To be picked from randomly, almost no two would be alike if there were somewhere around a thousand or two. Something similar on the inside as well.
-SMP: If there is going to be more than one Time Lord on the server, wouldn't the different TARDIS's need to look different? Perhaps each one would be tied to a username, and all TARDIS's in all worlds entered generated by that person would look like that?
-SMP commands: /allregen. All Time Lords on the server regenerate. Enough said.
-Sonic Screwdriver: Someone said that information should be gathered by Sonic-ing something. I concur.
I apologize for repeating ideas, but I do feel as if I have been yelling into a wall a bit.
Unfortunately, I am currently balancing this mod with sports and with school. I am the one working on the pre-release content, and my estimated time of completion is about 3 weeks. Here is the reasoning:
- Sonic Screwdriver: ready for release. may need a few minor tweaks.
- Tardis: interior is complete, hot-swap world system is complete, rendering the door is in limbo.
- Daleks: may or may not be in pre-release, AI is still very buggy and is under heavy development.
The vashta narada will not be added into this mod for multiple reasons.
...
Never say never. I think that they have a very safe chance of making it into the mod EVENTUALLY. You can safe in assuming that I will add them. In my opinion, the vashta narada will be a foe that is meant for a well equipped and experienced player. They would not be some random mob that spawns rarely near trees, but instead would be given an entire biome that would have them living in it. Everything from Doctor Who has the potential to make Minecraft very great, it just has to be properly developed.
If I've said these already, it's because everyone keeps not noticing them.
...
You are not yelling at a wall, however you must be considerate of the HUGE number of opinions that we are sorting through. Here is the process for when someone says "I want to add rainbow ponies".
- Guys monitoring the forum read it. If they feel like it is valid they reply and talk over it with the community.
- Guys on the forum like the idea, so they send it over to a google docs page.
- I read the idea, ask questions about the idea, contemplate how the idea will be coded
- The idea then sits there, collecting dust because I am too busy to worry about it.
- Hopefully the one line on the google docs page either grows, or does not wither away over time. If that is true, it gets turned into code.
- What if the idea is awesome on paper and sucks ingame? Now it is scrapped.
Please forgive us if we have not replied to your suggestions for the SMP portion of the mod. You do understand that there must be a mod before we worry about starting that process for the finer details of the SMP side of things? None the less, your ideas have been read by me so rest assured that they are not being wasted, they just now need to hold up for the next few months of development.
The TARDIS is that far already? Amazing, great to hear! If the estimate for a pre-release is about three weeks, any estimates for early "teaser" screenshots? Especially with hearing that the interior is complete already! :biggrin.gif:
Please read my post about the website and forums regarding this. The psot is about 2-5 pages back
The vashta narada will not be added into this mod for multiple reasons.
1) they have no appearance
2) no motive to add them in
3) you cant kill them no matter what
Your random idea that you have that they die in sunlight and kill them with the sonic kind of made me cringe lol.
once again: turning down all ideas immediately. you're right that this version of the idea makes no sense, but there were good ideas a while back, not sure how far. and they do have an appearance: a pitch black shape on the ground. and if you thought of any ideas yourself, you could easily come up with a decent motive.
for whoever said that they should only be in one biome if they're added, here's what i think: either it would be a HIGHLY forested biome, or a sort of library biome or planet as a reference to the show, or a reference to any other episode they were in that i haven't seen. you have to make it obvious to the player so they don't just commit suicide. there is no way to kill them, so the only way would be to get creative, or to have a way of simply avoiding them, like them moving slowly. earlier i had a library suggestion, random passive npcs that a planet wasn't added for would appear in the light and vashta narada would be in the dark, enchanters acting like a sort of spawner, the vashta narada not spawning naturally. under the enchanter would be a lever, surrounded by bedrock, so that you must break the enchanter and turn the light on with the lever. it doesn't kill the remaining vashta narada, but no more will leave the dark areas, allowing for safe passage to the next room. i was thinking that there would either be some special book, or npcs that spawn could give you quests to find a certain book in return for some something special from their planet. (or something special not specific to any planet if nothing can be thought of)

No, I'm not some n00b that makes there username have to do with the game they're playing. There were no Endermen in Alpha. N00bs.
Once again, being rude to me. I am not turning down all ideas. I am turning down the ideas that either make no sense or would be to hard to execute at this time. The vashta narada dont really have much purpose. They are a good villain in the show but making them viable in the mod would be something that cant be done at this time.
"dont make them obvious"
They are shadows....what can you do with shadows.
as for you thinking we (and myself personally) are not thinking of ideas, you cannot be more wrong. The fact of the matter is that there are no motives or reasonable ideas that could be optimal to be released in a first edition of the mod. We are constantly working on new ideas of our own and adding them into the mods plans.
Also, your talking about making them with 1.9. This mod is currently being built against minecraft 1.8.1
You do not have all the facts of what is currently planned.
Please stop being rude to me and realize I am only turning down the ideas that are not important for a first release of the mod.

So the Vashta Narada is this weeks hot topic, eh? I don't think anyone is expecting this to be implemented right away, as no one has said anything of the sort, but if they were to be added later on, perhaps use the same coding as the Weeping Angels, where they break light sources, but nothing else.
Maybe include an easter egg where if you toss any meat (via Q), like steak or chicken, at a vashta narada, it gets turned into a bone.
If I recall, they spawn from spores, so in Mushroom biomes and Forest biomes would be the places to see them and they would be easily visible to anyone paying attention to their surroundings.
So they're not complete overkill, they would only spawn at night like most mobs and move at the same speed as a walking mob, rather than going their canon speed, which was faster than any of the humans or the Doctor could run.
Using the sonic on them would stun them for ~5 seconds
And of course being able to disable them at your whim
No, that ender guy always has to say something negative directed whenever I do. He is very ignorant towards me and im starting to become a tad annoyed by it.

I do like that idea for the vashta narada actually.
They shouldnt be a primary feature in the mod, just a little something extra that neither benifits nor detours from the mod. They would just be the shadow with the one feature like throwing something biological in and it eats it.
But they cant do damage to you.
its hard to do anything with them because yes they are shadows but people would get very pissed checking every single shadow they see. (even if it is biome specific)
A moving shadow during the day could be pretty obvious xD They would be like an invisible mob which has a shadow. The shadow on the ground would be the way of seeing them, and you could make their particular shadow extremely dark so they could even been seen in the shade/at night.
Also from what I've read, intentional or not, theiking1 has been a little bit rude himself when turning down other peoples ideas.

GET THE SONIC BLOODY CANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(please :biggrin.gif: )
I agree. a sonic cane would be cool, but how would it be used? would it be more powerful? bigger? or just another type of sonic screwdriver that just looks a bit different?
Also, a slight issue is: the creepiness of the Vashta Narada comes from the fact that they're looking like shadows, so you never know whether it's a genuine shadow or not.
Minecraft has no real shadows (it only has lower light levels and round "shadows", which are just an easy overlay), so that's a purely technical issue that makes implementing them in a way that does them justice a lot harder.
I mean I kind of like the Vashta Narada, they're a good creepy critter, but in Minecraft with it's rendering, it might just end up being a black ooze or something and that would be a disservice to the source material.
That isn't really a problem... you just make them an invisible mob that still has a shadow. The mob itself doesn't need to be shadow.
