Well guys, I'm back to work after taking a short break for 2 days. This time, I'll be trying to rework layers before I go make changes to everything else. For some reason, when Notch added the option for people to put in the seeds, it ruined all of my work, and all of my previous know how about the terrain generator.
As for the ideas, I have several side projects that I've planned that aren't up there, such as writable books, realistic lighting (light from the sun, etc.), realistic atmosphere, and more. I do like you guys' ideas though. Keep them coming.
Another side note, I finally figured out how to get MCP to work on my Mac side, so I can run my server and code and texture, all at the same time! I may give out access to my private server to a few people, although please don't spam me with PMs for it.
And also, can you guys please stop calling me a "god". I mean, if I pull everything off, then go ahead. But in these early stages, it kind of disturbs me. I don't rally know how to explain it, but please just stop calling me it. :3
Thanks guys, for the responses, support, and ideas.
As far as dynamic liquid goes, have you thought about modeling it after the dynamic water system here?: http://www.moddb.com/games/liquid-cubed
The creators are planing on mergeing it with minecraft anyway once they add a few things.

If you do this that would truly be epic, but unless you are a really really good programmer, I dont see this happening any time soon. Start off small dude, add in the easier stuff first like new blocks/mobs/items and other tweaks you would like to throw in. Save that whole terrain generator thing, and realisticwater/gravity, for later. As for ideas, I can help you out:
-Make clay generate from time to time between the dirt layer and stone layer. Make it more common on beaches and with larger deposits.
-Make it so when ore is mined, instead of getting the ore block, you get a 'chunk of ore' or something, that is an un-placeable item. Along with this, make it so you get a chance of getting anywhere from 1-4 of these items. The odds are greater to get a larger amount if you have a better quality pickaxe. So for example, a stone pickaxe has a 90% chance of dropping one iron chunk, a 7% chance of dropping 2, a 3% chance of dropping 3, and a 0% chance of dropping 4. A diamond pickaxe however has a 40% chance of dropping one iron chunk, a 40% chance of dropping 2, a 10% chance of dropping 3, and a 10% chance of dropping 4. This is of course just an example.
Ore chunks are smelted just as ore blocks are now. The whole multiple drops concept also applies to diamond and coal.
-snip-
Great ideas except for not being able to place the ore blocks. Those are great for decoration.

if this is fake = biggest trolling evah?
if this is true = supah hadrcroe moddah
if this is true, but you couldnt get everything running = nice mod!
you will pretty much blow my mind with this mod,
you will also have to change the lighting engine if you want to change the chunks, i heard they are related,
if you change the water system, you will be fixed what it was broken after indev
if you add bigger heights and proper oceans and (probably) 1000 block deep worlds, remember to add underwater caves and floating islands,
that is all
Here's an idea that I had which would work especially well with your extended height and superhigh mountains. I call it "Arcane Water". It would involve nearly doubling the amount of items already in the game. The main idea is that there is a mystical, light bluish purple liquid that comes from the "Aether" (or some other fancily names high up magical realm) and has somehow managed to fall down here. It spawns in very small pools of maybe 3-4 source blocks (or whatever you call them with the system you were talking about. It can't evaporate either.) and only extremely high up, maybe only past the 120th or 200th layer. When it spawns it is also surrounded by crystal blocks. (explained later) When you go in the Arcane Water, unless wearing a full iron suit (also explained later) you will be instantly killed. Arcane water is magical and unstable, so any non-creature that touches it will probably be destroyed, but may be transformed into something special. This is done in Minecraft by tossing in the item form. Here's a short list.
Cobblestone 1/10 chance of obsidian
Wood 1/3 chance of Darkwood (magic nether wood?)
Sand 1/3 chance of gem sand (colored sand)
Glass 1/3 chance of crystal block
Diamond 1/2 chance of enchanted gem (SUPERDIAMOND)
All gold armor 1/3 chance of royal armor
Every single item except for those that items can be transformed into from Arcane Water have an item that they can turn into with just one exception: Iron. Iron is inert to all magical interaction, and so is completely unaffected. If you wear full iron armor then the Arcane Water can not reach you, and so you are safe from it. If you can code it, then make it so that unless submerged then you only need boots chestplate and leggings, but not the helmet.
And if you use any of my idea, please give me a little credit. to you either way.

One question (not sure if this has been answered)
If chunks now fit together from all directions (infinite vertical space), how will you determine the depth and what ore spawns there?
As of now one chunk holds all vertical space and I'm not really sure how you can count depth when there are multiple chunks

Well, considering that my luck has run short with the current terrain generator, I will be rewriting this.
Yeah, all versions of this mod will remove and create more class files than any mod. Since I have to completely rework the terrain generator, not just add a few lines in every few places, I can pretty much do anything.

How will you deal with the Terrain and Tool sprite index limit? If you do manage to get past it, will you release it as a separate mod?

We've e-mailed Markus "Notch" Persson (creator of Minecraft) on several occasions regarding integrating the algorithm into Minecraft, but for the moment it's not a feasible option. Aside from Minecraft's more pressing development issues, without our algorithm having A) proof of internet support, :cool.gif: a stable framerate in an "infini-world", and C) proof of compatibility with MC's lighting, it doesn't make much sense to throw another wrench in the works, does it?
In the meantime we will work to improve the system so it can run harmoniously in a similar blockType environment!

hey NetBlitzer, i was just wondering when and how you started to learn java, cause i am 15 as well and couldnt even dream to do the things that you are setting out to do. so if you have any tips of how you started to learn they would be much appreciated =)
Ok, I want everyone to stop calling me a "god". To be honest, I'm just a good coder. Not specifically Java. I learned most of all of my coding with E2 from Garry's Mod. I actually became pretty big on my server as someone to ask about stuff. But I din't really do much with Java. Even if I had, Notch's code isn't really basic Java. Just basic coding (seems like to me).

Don't worry, I noticed. I looked for contact info, but it wasn't there.
Edit: Oh, and if anyone actually wants to help, the main thing I need to find out is where random seeds and stuff are selected. That is all that's truly causing problems right now.
This sounds amazing! It would add a lot to the game.
But I must wonder this, what will happen if you succeed, and Notch notices? Will he praise you, and possibly even implement your ideas? Or will he say, "meh," and go on developing Minecraft how he wants?
Please do try to stay away from copypasting from another game, ESPECIALLY RUNESCAPE. Make your own thing here. Lots of good ideas, just don't get too drawn into intertwining minecraft with runescape, or wow, or whatever other over played game there is.
Perhaps make all these things "options." Attach a lil program, where you can go through and select the height, classes of blocks to add, classes of mobs to add, that type of thing. Just a thought.
Otherwise, good luck. Have fun, too, when updating this for new updates of mc. lol.
