I made a forum account purely to post ITT.
I am very intrigued and excited about this idea.
The teaser photos have me drooling for more like a prepubescent boy who has just stumbled upon his first titty-mag.
Notch needs to seriously consider taking this on.
You have my full support and 4 BILLION DIAMONDS! (x4billion)
Also, as soon as I figure out how to use these forums I'll put your banner in my sig.
No worries, we were actually waiting for 1.4. Resetting your spawn with beds makes hunting faraway artifacts and setting up new bases a tad more manageable, don't you think?
I was also interested in dissecting the new 'pet behavior' used by the wolves. Hmm.
You know, I've been reading through a lot of the Aether discussion lately. It seems to be mostly negative comments, people arguing, or random people spamming diamonds. Neither of these are particularly useful.
I want to say in earnest that I fully support this mod. I also know that my statement of this fact is likely to have no effect whatsoever. However, I say it nonetheless in the hopes that it will please you and let you know that many of us appreciate your effort on this mod and look forward to it's release. In addition to this proclamation of support, I hope to be able to offer some suggestions and I intend to generally monitor this thread.
I support the previous suggestion of implementing a progress bar. To those of us eagerly awaiting the release it's a good measure for how far you are along.
Perhaps something a little more climactic could happen after you've collected all 15 artifacts? Perhaps a massive temple a bit like the opening of the Labyrinth that opens only after you've collected all 15? Then some sort of massive battle against a fallen angel or somesuch, who erupts in a pillar of fire? Hmm. That'd likely be way too difficult, but I do feel that something more than 'Congrats, you're done' is warranted after completing the quest.

As mentioned a few times previously, after you collect all 15 artifacts or defeat all 6 labyrinths, there is a final Labyrinth with a final boss.
I do appreciate the support. As to the progress bar, I've instead just stated on the OP what we're currently both working on, which is probably a lot more informative than a estimated percentage value.

Well that's what I get for jumping to the end, I guess. Though I am curious as to how you're going to deal with the boss fights. Standard combat is a bit... 2 dimensional. You stab it, or you shoot it. I have the Battle Tower mod and usually beat the Golem by getting it stuck and whacking it repeatedly with a decent sword. Bosses are expected to be large, but that often is used against them. Mobs in Minecraft aren't really made for bosses... Or so I would think. Given the quality of the rest of this mod, I'm sure they'll be amazing, but I'm still curious as to how you're going to pull it off.

Each labyrinth is comprised of randomized floors with one or two intervals of a 'Special floor.' I've designed these huge floors from the ground up to have special areas and challenges. On the bottom floor, past the locked door lies the lair of that labyrinth's respective boss. I am trying my hardest to prevent Bosses from being a simple 'hack and slash until it dies' boss, so I hope people will enjoy them.
As you say, mobs, or even combat in Minecraft isn't really made for these kinds of instances. So often you'll find that the room/obstacles in which you fight the bosses are more dangerous than the bosses themselves.
To a point though, in minecraft, there's a limit to what we can do.
quick question that i havent seen here yet (read all the posts (sort of))
you say thieves can open wooden doors and open chests but can they also break blocks like wooden or cobblestone?
if not you can easily protect urself against them by not making doors but rather use 2 wooden squares as a door which you break down and replace every time you go in or out
I think you could do that, but it's quite the hassle, and not everyone would think to. Not to mention, that only protects your base. You have to leave eventually to go hunting for more Artifacts. A much better solution to base-safety would be a Iron door with a button to one side. Quick, simple, and impenetrable by thieves.
They also spawn in very low light, so make sure the inside of your base is well lit, unless you want a surprise knife to the face in the comfort of your own home.
I am looking forward to this mod so much. I love the idea of having an added goal that gives a purpose to all the exploration I do. Not to mention spelunking and resource-hoarding are my favorite parts of this game, so an extra thing to look for is always nice. Especially if there's a limited number.
As the 'Get it stuck and wale on it!' strategy was mentioned, I think I should point you towards Mo' Creatures. The Ogres(Or are they trolls? I can never remember...) break blocks, so you might use that bit of code(with permission of course!!) to keep bosses from getting stuck.
I.e. Set it up so the Boss will only destroy blocks between it and the player. Or only certain types of blocks.
If you use it, Yay! If not, at least I made you aware of it.
Keep up the great work!

Block breaking is actually pretty elementary compared to the stuff we've been doing, and a one or two of the bosses do break blocks.
I really like the Mo' creatures mod and I'd recommend using it alongside this mod, if it turns out there aren't any incompatibilities between the two.
So there is an infinite amount of artifacts, but only 15 at a time?
As has been stated upthread, the recipe for the white artifact is a place-holder.
Once you use artifacts to open a labyrinth, they're gone.
The reverse side also has a reverse side.

Hope it doesn't trouble this mod development
They seem to be quite skilled, so I doubt it.
