I like the end idea of end-game level gear and stuff like that, would really encourage exploration and such. and I noticed another poster mentioning difficult dungeons/caverns that could offer really good gear as well, I like that idea too.
Also I see your detecting stone is from Demon's Crest, the heaven crest if memory serves right.

Correct! Only a few people have gotten that one, bravo.
Mod update:
Choam and I are hard at work on the mod. Progress is going along splendidly, as Choam's programming skills are pretty top notch.
As I said earlier, we're going to be focusing on Single Player for the time being, since a lot of the tools available through APIs like Bukkit simply aren't enough for a mod of this magnitude. In time, though, I'd love to have a multiplayer version.
There are some changes from my original proposal on the front page; some of them Choam's suggestions, and some of them ideas I simply had yet to add.
Here's a teaser of some cool stuff being implemented, including the brand new Artifact sprite I drew this weekend:

As progress continues, we'll be making an official new thread for the mod.
Looking good, Kirby and Choam! You seem to be an excellent combination.
I can't help but noticing that Choam said he was only planning on implementing 9 artifacts, but you only listed the colours of 5.
Is it because some of the colours can appear twice, or you have only planned 5 for now? Or another reason?
:biggrin.gif:
I've bookmarked this page, and eagerly await more news. Keep up the good work.

Glad that you're excited about the mod!
There are many changes, and even the current number may change as we continue to polish and implement things into the mod. (The current number IS 10, actually. Two of each color. But again, this may likely change.)
A big part of minecraft is the fact that you must be able to set your own goals. As is true in real-life, your true goal is never certain. In minecraft, you need to be self-motivated and be able to set goals that you yourself wish to reach. This can be great because it allows for people to tailor the game to suit their own needs, what they wish to do. The game is therefore customizable, and can appeal to different types of people. Where a game focused on building can appeal to those who enjoy building, it doesn't appeal to those who just want to explore. If you can have both of these goals, and more, inside the same game you are reaching out to a wider potential audience. The downside to this is that there are the people who take this as a negative thing; they want a specific direction set out for them.
Minecraft is an open world game. You are given this world, and some tools, and you can do what you want. It not a linear game, and that is its appeal to me. Of course, there are many good linear games out there, but the reason I like minecraft is because of that reason; it is not like other games.
While that may seem off-topic, I am merely pointing out why an 'end-game' as such does not fit in with the minecraft concept. However, consider it as an 'extra' goal that can run along side your other goals in order to expand upon the current minecraft experience.
That is awesome. Thank you for replying! :biggrin.gif:
And yeah, wow, I did not even know half of the functions ModLoader had (including setPrivateValue)... Really wish I had known that earlier. I did a lot of unnecessary work.
....I need to learn to read Javadocs more carefully....
Anyway, thank you for all the info. :biggrin.gif:
Sure thing! If you want me to explain in any more detail, let me know.
Yeah, I had a heck of a time trying to get things to work when I didn't know about setPrivateValue. Then I saw that function and was like "Wait... does that function do wait I think it does?" And sure enough, I was introduced to the true power of Java Reflection. It can even set final variables! Which makes me think, "Why bother making anything private or final if you can just use reflection to get or set anything you want?" Oh well, Java is just silly that way, I guess.
:ohmy.gif: You can do that!?
You have just opened me up to an entirely new world of modding, my friend....
I only wish I knew about all this sooner... The time I could have saved. The things I could have done.
You are simply awesome. Thank you very much for the info! :biggrin.gif:

Haha, yep, you can do that! Although it's generally seen as bad practice to go around all willy-nilly changing private and final variables. So yeah, feel free to use it, but not too free. :wink.gif:
Also, just some updates on what I've been doing:
- Got the 5 artifact colors implemented with the passive stat bonuses
- Got the divining stone working in the nether
- Double jumping works now
- Fixed the dynamic light bug
- Changed the glass texture on the artifact blocks
- Probably some other stuff that I can't recall right now, lol
And thanks, Supah Fly, for offering your video skills, but I'm afraid I won't be able to get you a bajillion internets as it seems Kirb has that under control. Thanks anyway! :biggrin.gif:

EDIT:
Just a quick question that occurred to me; will this be modloader compatible? Of course, I'll still get this if it isn't, this is simply great.
I could like display them in my many altars / shrines / temples i have made :tongue.gif:

I helped program Kirb's Artifact Mod.
