- Artifact blocks should emit a strong light (that stretches out to around 30 blocks) that can pierce block. The light should be yellow to indicate it's special and it should be able to pierce through blocks so you'll know when you're close.
- Along with light, the Artifact should also emit a sound, like the portal does, except the sound it emits should be less satanic like the portal's, considering an artifact is something holy and pure.
- Upon entering an artifact's light zone all music playing should be gradually muted until completely gone and monsters will not be able to spawn in that area.
- Each Artifact should have a 'guardian'/boss battle: a mob that can be only defeated with a specific technique or only diamond/golden tools. The guardian will spawn right after taking it's artifact, and with that the light emitted from the artifact should be slowly drained until no avail, forcing the player to place light sources in order to fight properly.
- The guardians shouldn't be something overrated like dragons or some mythological creature, but somethingsuch as a giant spider, a swarm of slimes, something minecraft-like (not that I'm saying it needs to be a variation of an existing mob, just examples)
- If the guardian kills you, you're ****ed. Artifact lost. New one generated elsewhere.
- Maybe boss battle music while fighting guardians?
This will force players to think twice before taking an artifact, they need to aknowledge the fact a guardian awaits and they need to be prepared for it, thus making them go search for more resources before the battle in case they're not ready.
Example to a case without these qualities:
Let's make a new world!
Ooh look, a cave!
Ooh look, iron!
Holy spang, an artifact!
*mine mine mine*
9 more to go :>
tl;dr more balance options and a few new suggestions
I know that those ideas are hard to code... but I think they would be nice :smile.gif:
Another possible option: Settings
World1(NEW) *click*
A choice appear: Adventure | Artifact | Creative | Survival | (All other game mode that will be implemented in the game)
If you choose Artifact Mode, another setting screen appear where you can choose things like:
-Boss when artifacts are collected (on/off)
-Distance between artifact (Small/Medium/Large) (Aka Game length :wink.gif:)
-Difficulty (Easy/Normal/Hard) (No peacefull, esay = no thief, normal = limited thieves to steal 1 artifact)
Other ideas
-Sanctuary: The final artifact could be in a special temple guarded by a freaking big boss :smile.gif: Something like a creeper queen :biggrin.gif:. I fear the creeper queen... (The epic boss battle is a good idea :biggrin.gif:)
-If a thieve stole one of your artifact, there is a small change that the thieve will spawn somewhere on the surface, maybe in a thieve hut. Kill the thieve mean take back your artifact. (Not sure of this idea... but well...)
- I Suggest you to post the Artifact Game Mode in the suggestion thread :smile.gif:
Only Ideas... sorry if I repeat some other posts, I didn't read every single post.
Sorry for my english.
What do you think about it?

"C'est quand il fait noir qu'on voit le mieux les étoiles, mais c'est aussi en regardant le ciel qu'on se rend compte qu'on est sur terre."
-Bligzar
"The only power is the power of will."
-Unknown... Sadly
The artifacts should give you the power over creation and/or destruction.
Creation: right click to place new life extremely rapidly (trees, mobs, dirt, raise mountains, temples, etc, essentially giving you power over a smart terrain generator of some sort.)
Destruction: point and 'splode. Or something cooler... you may mind-control enemy mobs, and turn them to your side. your DARK ARMY will follow you around and attack any non-possessed mobs and other players.
But you must prove your worth against the Goddess Of Life And Death to gain her power. She is not an easy foe to beat, and she WILL summon mobs and modify terrain in order to kill you. It would be wise to prepare an arena in which it would be advantageous to fight her.
this is th eperfect idea for artifact endgame. it would make you the god of mincecraft in its entirety. this is what the mod should do.
I clicked this thinking is would be another retarded idea with OP saying "HURRDURR IMPLEMENT THIS RETARDED GAMEKILLING MODE THAT TOTALLY DOESN'T SEE THE PURPOSE OF THE GAME ITSELF THAT WOULD BE OBVIOUSLY BETTER OFF AS A MOD BUT I WANT IT TO BE A FULL FLEDGED GAME MODE LOL"
I'm looking at whoever wants Notch to add a deathmatch mode, and turn Minecraft into an FPS.
To my surprise, It wasn't.
You pitched an idea that actually adds to the game, and captures the purpose of minecraft: Exploration and Mining.
I think that it could very well be implemented in the game, but being a mod would probably be better until then.
Also, this would be fantastic in multiplayer.
I fully support this.

You just made me tingle bro, you know... down there..
Just as an update, never got a response back, so it is a mystery.
Been busy at work, but still looking for a serious and skilled modder to bring this sucker to life, true to the design.
Hi! I've been working on your mod in secret. It's like 90% done. Sorry, I probably should've told you... but I figured wolfie was working on it, and I just wanted to see if I could do it. I never planned to release it, but now maybe I will, since no one else is really working on it! Here are some screenshots (EDIT: These were old and outdated screenshots). I'll see if I can get some videos out soon if I can figure out this whole screen-recording and YouTube-uploading thing.
I've marked what I've implemented/changed so far on your original image here (EDIT: Outdated - removed).
All questions, comments, criticisms, complaints are welcome and encouraged! If you think I made too many drastic changes to your mod, Kirb, let me know. If you want it exactly by your original design, that's fine by me! I'll change it to however you'd like. Just thought I'd add my own input to this amazing idea of a mod. I'll hopefully release the first version of this pretty soon here, but first I'd like to redo all the placeholder artwork, as well as fix some loose ends up. If someone could come up with some awesome new artwork, that'd be awesome.
Oh, and also: hi everyone! This is my first post ever. Please don't hurt me!

Holy **** man, please post this mod
I'll probably release something in a few days or so (no promises, though! ). I need to de-crappify the temples/labyrinths (right now they're just rooms with a single chest in the center that contains a magical item), get some non-placeholder icons and textures and whatnot from any talented artist willing to help, and fix up a few odd bugs here and there (for example, the dynamic light that follows you around sometimes gets out of sync with the player, and I can't quite figure out why...). And I'm sure something else will probably pop up that will require me to redo a whole bunch of stuff. Actually, now that I think about it... I think Mojang's going to release a new version of Minecraft next week sometime, right? That's sure to throw a wrench in my release plan... hmmm... I'll have to wait for MCP and ModLoader to update and all that.
Well anyway... in the meantime if anyone wants to help out with the art side of things, just let me know! I have no idea what Kirb's icons are from, and as far as I'm concerned they look fine as is. But I don't think I want to plagiarize other games' artwork, even if I don't recognize it.

Very impressive! At first I balked a little at some of the changes, but overall it's looking great so far! I actually rather like the little altars that the artifacts can spawn on.
The Temples are a pretty interesting idea as well. I assume they are completely sealed by bedrock unless one unlocks it with an artifact?
There are a few changes and suggestions I'd like to discuss, (namely some cool additions to the original proposal I had yet to add), but overall, bravo, dude. Thanks a bunch for taking up this mod proposal.
Concerning the placeholder sprites, I will of course create the new icons for the items this weekend, once I get a hold of you.
... isn't that the Light Orb from Pokemon?
