As Metallurgy is nothing more than a glorified IC2 Macerator and furnace combo(plus the alloys), and minefantasy is still a heavy WIP, I got really tired of not seeing a true blacksmith mod. The features I would like are as follows:
1. Crafting four coal in your 2x2 crafting grid gives you a pile of coal. You can place it on the ground and have a pile of coal. This is right-clicked on with a shovel to get a shovel with coal. Right-click with that on a smelter to empty the shovel and put one lump of coal into the smelter.
2. The smelter is made with a stone spout on the front of a stone block(part of a 3x3x3 hollow stone cube with the center block and top middle block removed). When mining ore you no longer get the whole block, but chunks of ore which are put into the top of the smelter via right-click. Then you use feature #1 to put coal in the smelter and eventually you get molten metal(bronze is made with 2x copper for every 1 tin, making one ingot while steel is made by combining coal and molten iron to get molten pig iron, which is cooled into a pig iron ingot and worked on an anvil to make a steel ingot).
3. A mold, made by putting 8 clay in a chest/furnace formation. This is right-clicked on a spout to get a filled mold of whatever metal you melted earlier. Then drop it into water( a la MineFantasy) to get a cooled mold filled with an ingot of the metal you wanted. Then right click to get your ingot.
4. A blacksmith's forge(with a similar look to the one from Skyrim, crafted from 8 smoothstone in a ring). Add fuel and right-click with a flint and steel to light it. Place the ingot you want to heat up in the forge via right-click and wait for it to heat up(it will be ready when it has an enchantment glow on it, if left too long it will melt and you'll lose your ingot. Trying to pick up a hot ingot by right-clicking it will burn you, taking off one heart and setting you on fire for a second, so you need tongs, crafted from a stick and two stones in a bucket formation. These basic stone tongs will last just long enough for you to put your ingots onto the anvil part of the forge in the recipe you want(three ingots in a horizontal V for the tongs).
5. Now you need a hammer, crafted with two stones on either side of two sticks placed in a vertical pattern on the crafting table. Hammer the ingot by right-clicking the heck out of it. You'll see it slowly turning into the tool/weapon you want(every 5 right-clicks gets it one stage closer, number of stages depends on the tool/weapon and material used, can be up to ten stages. Inspiration from MrCrayfish's construction mod.) Swords and such need a hilt, which is added on the anvil in the recipe with leather and a stick, and ingots next to the hilt formation to make up the blade/business end of the weapon.
6. Next, in the last two stages of forging a weapon/tool or working with an ingot, you need a quenching vat, made with a bucket of oil(right-click a bucket on a pool of oil, naturally spawned in deserts), and 5 iron ingots. Right click a heated and worked tool/ingot with a pair of tongs to pick it up, and right-click the tongs(with the ingot in it) on the quenching vat to cool the ingot a little. You can then remove it and finish working on it, but when the tool/weapon/ingot is finished it will still be quite hot, so repeat the quenching process and it will stop emitting smoke particles(to imitate steam coming off of the metal) indicating it is done.
7. Finally, for improving a weapon(mainly swords) you need a grinding wheel, made from two sticks and one block of sandstone. It improves the weapon, adding a small damage increase. The more you right-click on the wheel with the weapon, the more it is improved, but the grinding wheel does not last forever. It will eventually break, and as it wears down it dumps sand into your inventory and grows considerably smaller. An armor bench(made with 3 steel ingots and three planks, like a bed) improves armor. Armor is also made at the forge, similarly to weapons and tools, by placing hot ingots in a vanilla armor recipe. Diamonds can be encrusted on tools/weapons/armor, but vanilla diamond tool/weapon/armor recipes will be disabled; lets face it, diamond is strong but brittle and will shatter.
This mod is meant not to be an industrial-type mod, but come close to the Skyrim-esque way of forging a tool/weapon or armor.

I just took the Minecraft Noob test! Check out what I scored. Think you can beat me?!
Me and Whamo are currently working on a mod that will basically incorporate everything you've just suggested, not exactly the same way but I feel you would be satisfied with it.
Its a WIP but hasnt been added to that section yet. You can make suggestions in the Realism Survival thread in this section.

Okay, PM me when the topic is created, or just link me if it already is up. I'd be more than happy to help.
