The one thing that I love about the Minecraft community is the openness to fascinating mod ideas. I've certainly come to enjoy a few of them. For the past few weeks, I have been enjoying a YouTube series featuring a modpack called "Attack of the B-Team" The modpack does sounds like fun; except for one mod.
Though I strongly dislike the Witchey mod, it's actually the source of a mod idea. Why do I dislike that mod? It's the strong occult theme. I gave my dislike some thoughts. Why not have a mod that's essentially the opposite? Why not infuse the player with abilities found only in spiritual light; rather than spiritual darkness?
I saw the thread for the Witchery mod and it's obviously liked. I am certain that a mod that goes the opposite way would be popular. Why did I name the mod - Spiritual Light - Spiritual Darkness? No one likes a boring one sided mod. There does need to be some level of tension and a reason to play.
As a Christian, I'd much prefer a mod showcasing the power of Light rather than Darkness. This is the secondary reason for disliking the Witchery mod. It's also why I would not want a one sided spiritual Light type mod. There does need to be a balance. Let's the player choose.
Let the players choose to side with the angels of Lights with hints pointing towards God. Let the player choose to side with demons and it be their own undoing. Of course, these players do get a chance at redemption.
Is there a mod similar to this? Arc Magica is a fantasy based magic mod that is somewhat similar and it's pointing in my direction.
I would love to see this mod done in such a fun way that YouTube personalities like BDoubleO, ChimneySwift and others could play and not feel like they have to be overtly religious.

I say this might be a good idea, but, you may wanna remove references to christianity in it. You could probably still include various demons and angels, though, a lot of mythology includes similar beings (in fact, if you decide to look at various other mythologies aside from christianity's own mythology for such beings, you will probably find a lot more interesting and fitting creatures). Also, the mod could probably revolve around morality based magic, with both good and evil sides having their pros and cons.
If you do manage to pull this off, for a power system, why not use meditation, and rest, to recharge your powers? One may meditate by pressing a button on the keyboard (you could probably designate this), and just idle there. But, meditating without any special equipment will cause you take some time to recharge fully. Perhaps maybe you could craft items, such as Tibetan Singing Bowls, to aid in recovering your power. Some new age groups meditate using gemstones, perhaps maybe you could include a few new ores, that drop gems that when held in your hand while meditating, increase the rate of recovery. Some of them should also have various benefits, such as regeneration. We could probably incorporate some of the ingame gemstones already, such as quartz, emerald, and lapis. Sleeping in a bed should function similarly to meditation. If one attempts to use their powers while their mana bar has run out, it will draw on your own health.
However, as you progress from neutral to good or evil, you will find new ways to gain power other than meditation and rest.
On the evil side, you can gain power by harming or killing other beings, sacrificing other beings, leeching off other being's own mana using spells, and bargaining with demons.
On the good side, you can gain power by aiding others, breeding animals, planting crops, and trading with spirits.
Fleshing out? I will definitely agree. Mystics and Witchery will have spiritual components; regardless. There is no escaping it. I looked at the Witchery mod and they confirmed my suspicions. From my glancing at that thread, there are references to altars, demons, worship to gain power and a spirit world. That sounds like religion to me.
Here is the key, though. It's how you go about it. I'll stick with Mystics; as it seems a more favorable title. I believe you make a good point:
I'll be honest i can't see any way to make this mod, let me rephrase to implement this mod without any overt religious overture.
Reading your idea that Spiritual Light is somehow only relevant to Angel and god seem to me less about fun and more about ideals.
If on the other hand it's was a red vs blue type mod or good vs evil where definition of good and evil are not defined by religion but moral integrity good being those that win via charity, growth and hard work and evil those that achieve with underhanded methods, stealing and anarchy utilizing the "Mystics" how they see it then this could be potentially a good mod but would need a lot of fleshing out first.
I would prefer the player gain powers based on their conducts. Are you going to walk in the path of love, kindness, peace, charity and etc? If so, you should expect to gain Light specific powers and abilities. If going that way then you be able to call on Heavenly type help. Remember, Witchery has the player summoning demons.
As for characteristic, I wouldn't recommend a legalistic view of good or evil. Ex. How about someone using blindness to get someone out of a very nasty situation. I am using this to illustrate my point; let's not get bogged down. The mod is supposed to be fun. Good and evil should be defined a clear set of moral principles and it's not a list of "Thou shall not..".
As no human being is perfect, I would not expect a good Mystic to be perfectly good. Hence, there is a need for grace. Without it, I don't think we're going to see any entertaining Let's Play with good Mystics.

As I read your comments here, I am recalling Bullfinch's Greek Mythology. I enjoyed it, as a kid. Here's a fun discovery that I made, years later. Those stories were being told from a Christian worldview and I had no clue. I simply enjoyed it. It's an old idea that people like Nathaniel Hawthorne proposed.
So, the idea of vague references to Christianity and incorporating story element that points to similar items is a good one. I could just see someone wielding Excaliber to kill Medusa. This would provide some good additional materials.

Leave it to an atheist to come up with some good ideas. Meditation & rest would be a good way to implement thing. How about Gregorian chants, though. I should point out that I am simply suggesting an idea for a mod. I am not a modder and I've no clue of how to do it.
I was hoping that someone would like it enough to take on the challenge of doing it.

My intent was not to imply the idea was bad, I apologies if that was how you felt. (Back to Fleshing out this mod)
Don't worry, I could tell you liked it. As it happens, you went my direction. I wanted it based on the player's action. Now,let's get down to business.
Power bar (possibly in a speedometer style that move's left of right based on actions carried out by the player)
I see where you're going. A useful gauge to clue the player to which side the person is on. Of course, it's based on the person's action. If I were a Let's Player or someone with a bunch of mods; I'd prefer something that gives a visual clue and not be a distraction. Would it be possible to place something on the side that would change color? Perhaps, a small compass with a pointer that moves in the appropriate direction. ie: Left = Bad - Right = Good. As the player progress in a direction; the needle would move to indicate where you're heading.
(SSP) - NPC that the player can interact with (either helping in some way or hindering in some way)
(SSP) - Summon-able Creatures that offer some sort of time limited buff
I like both of these. I am not clear on what's meant by time limit buff. Yet, I like the idea of getting some needed help. Preferably, it is not in a way that unbalance the entire game; especially in a multiplayer situation.
(SMP) - player can interact with each other in a positive or negative way (would need to make this work in a non griefable / trolling way)
Poor MindCrackers! Yes, I love watching some of these guys and they love to prank. Of course, they don't prank in a malicious fashion or intentionally harm someone else's build. They follow a set of rules for their pranks. These rules may be of help: 1. No TNT 2. No Lava 3. No Fire 4. No Wither.
These rules were designed to help prevent griefing in the midst of a prank. These rules may be of help. They do need some tweaking.
Maybe a few non specific (made up) religions that player could choose to align with offering some sort of beneficial and detrimental effect.
As religion is man's attempt to worship God or what they call god; I wouldn't worry too much about creating a non specific "religion". It would be wiser to set before the player, a path to follow. Each path would have their own defining characteristics and benefits. Islam is known for its fighting spirit, Christianity is about redemption and healing and Buddhism has its own distinguishing characteristics.
You have the right idea in not directly naming the religion. Give each path a name and let it be defined by its own set of characteristics. It's okay to give some vague references. If interested, the players will figure it out on their own. Let's just create a set of paths; as opposed to some pseudo religion.

I like the idea of using meditation and rest to recharge and gain access to greater powers and abilities. Contrary to popular myths, the Tibet monks were not the only "mystics". There wee also Christian mytics and they probably could be found elsewhere. How about different chants associated with each paths. I was joking earlier but I do like the idea of using Gregorian chants.

This is alabaster dust. It can be made into alabaster ingots by putting it into a furnace. However, alabaster is decorative, and can be made into various items such as lamps, and alabaster blocks. It can be made by crushing up calcite and gypsum into dusts, and then combining the dusts.
This is calcite. It is used in the process of making alabaster. It can be meditated with.
This is gypsum. It is also used in the process of making alabaster. It can be meditated with.
This is moldavite. It spawns in mountainous areas. It can be used in the crafting of some items, and can be meditated with.
Now, I'm off to make a few more textures by retexturing existing items, and then figure out how to make my own ones properly.
I was looking at the mobs and I'm immediately thinking of the poem, Beowulf. It features the monster called Grendel. It's been a while 'ere I read it.
As for the paths, I was immediately thinking Galatians 5:19 - 23. For our purpose, the paths can by defined by certain traits: immorality, impurity, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, These are actually listed as deeds of the flesh. However, I think we can have some fun in designing paths that emulates these.
As for the path leading to the Light, here's love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;
I just looked at the list of deities and Alvraga would be a perfect fit for "outburst of anger" or rage. I'm not sure of who would fit what.
Sunconure11 got my brain thinking on a device that could be added. I like the Tibetan singing bowls. How about this symbol:
I proposing that just the symbol be used. If the players want to figure out the letters' meaning then let 'em.

Eh, I don't know if it should be added or not. How would one exactly use this symbol?
Also, we cannot let this mod get too religious. For one thing, you won't get a whole lot of players from it.

Sorry about my lack of responses. I've been under the weather, for the past couple of days. Plus, I found myself reading a good book that has nothing to do with Minecraft.
When I suggested that symbol earlier; I only had the actual symbols and not the explanation. Let's the player figure it out, for themselves. Some players are like that.
From what I see, the starting points for the Mystics mod is in place. I am neither a coder or an artist; so I won't be able to help much. Aside from this, I do have a life outside of Minecraft Forums. I need to get back to writing for my blog, Inspiration Point. Like ZallCaTor, you can find the link in my sig.
My purpose has been to suggest an alternative to the Witchery mod and it's one that would point in the direction of Christ without being overtly religious. This is why I was pointing to those "fruits" that I got from Gal 5; they'd make for good paths and fit some of the suggested names., from earlier.

I'm gonna see if I can make a few models for mobs. I have a few ideas for biomes as well.
Perhaps this mod could include code to make forge use 4096 biomes? Biomes O Plenty does something similar with potions.
The biomes will include:
Overworld Biomes
Tropical Dry Broadleaf Forest, a biome that is essentially a dry rainforest. This will have a few new mobs that spawn exclusively here, they will be extinct new caledonian animals, such as Sylviornis, a large flightless gamebird; Mekosuchus, a small crocodile that feeds on small animals such as molluscs (but will attack the player if attacked), and Meiolania, a large tortoise that is heavily armored. Monkeys and parrots also spawn here.
Salt Flat, a large expanse that was once the remnant of an ancient sea. This biome is made up of large blocks of salt, with the occasional hypersaline lake. The top layer is a thin layer of salt, similar to snow, with compacted salt blocks underneath. When a shovel is used on the salt, it drops several salt crystals. Drinking from a hypersaline lake by using a water bottle on the water and drinking it will cause Weakness II. Saline water could possibly be used in better potions. At night, the biome is inhabited by several hostile mobs exclusive to the area, such as giant amphipods, which spawn in the hypersaline lakes, but, are only hostile at night; and saltfish, silverfish like animals that live inside salt blocks. During the day, andean flamingos are a common sight in larger salt lakes.
Cloud forest, a mountainous rainforest. Tree ferns spawn along with the regular jungle trees. This environment is fairly foggy.
Steppe Tundra, a cold dry environment with treeless vegetation. Caribou, Aurochs (cow ancestor), Horses, Bison, Irish Elk, (and if Mo' Creatures is installed, Mammoths), are a common sight here.
SPIRIT WORLD (new dimension):
Demonic Fog, a foggy forest inhabited by Endermen, Sigbins, Elementals, Ghosts, Zombies, Skeletons, Witches, Demons, Vampires, Wendigos, and Manananggals.
Muck, a swampy biome where Witches, Zombies, Skeletons, Nagas, Elementals, Ghosts, Reptilians, Tikbalangs, Bunyips, Vodyanoy, and Kappas reside.
Sacred Forest, a forested biome similar to jungle where Centaurs, Zombies, Elementals, Ghosts, Sagari, Tengu, Gnomes, Tikbalangs, Kirin, Kitsunes, Tanukis, Spiders, Tardigrades, Elves, Fae, Spriggans, Sasquatches, Wendigos, and Jiangshi reside.
Rocky Mountains, a mountainous biome where Oni, Elementals, Jinn, Reptilians, Skeletons, Zombies, Satori, Draugr, Trolls, Jotnar, and Imbunches spawn.
Hallow, a forested biome where Unicorns, Fae, Cherubs, Seraphs, Ophanim, Archangels, Elementals, Elves, Phoenixes, Angels, Kirin, Apsara and Eudaemons reside.
Happy hunting grounds, a grassy biome where Unicorns, Elementals, Horses, Pigs, Cows, Behemoths, and various other animals spawn.
Hollow Abyss, a deep oceanic biome where Ningen, Elementals, Merfolk, Nommo, Umibozu, Leviathans, Kappas, Nymphs, Krakens, Cetus, and Hydras spawn here.
Hades, a cavernous biome that spawns underground. Reptilians, Elementals, Jinn, Demons, Zombies, Skeletons, Ghosts, Wendigos, Draugr, Jiangshi, and Endermen spawn here.
Spiritual Stream, rivers in the spirit world. Kappas, Nommo, Vodyanoy, Elementals, Kelpies, and Bunyips spawn here.
Inferno, a cavernous biome that spawns underground where Demons, Jinn, Reptilians, Ghosts, Zombies, Elementals, and Oni spawn.
Spiritual Island, islands that spawn randomly in the Hollow Abyss. Sirens, Merfolk and Elementals spawn here.
Frozen Wasteland, a Taiga like biome that Yuki-Onnas, Yetis, Ghosts, Vampires, Jiangshi, Elementals, Zombies, Skeletons, Spectral Mammoths, and Demons spawn here.
Spiritual transition, beaches in the spirit world. Sirens, Elementals, Merfolk and Ghosts spawn here.
Infinite Desert, a large desert where Sphinxes, Elementals, Sand Golems, Basilisks, Serpent Demons, Mummies, Death Worms, and Zombies spawn.
Veldt, a savannah like biome where Werehyenas, Elementals, Sphinxes, Ghosts, and various animals spawn.
Meghalaya, a jungle like biome known for its abundance of strangler fig trees growing into structures such as bridges. Elementals, Man Eating Trees, Ghosts, Zombies, Skeletons, Serpent Demons, Reptilians, Tardigrades, Spiders, Wendigos, Mapinguaris, and Manticores spawn here.
The biomes that spawn in the spirit world are larger than the biomes in the Large Biomes world.

Now, I'm off to make a few more textures by retexturing existing items, and then figure out how to make my own ones properly.
As for the path leading to the Light, here's love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;

Though we might have to worry about copyright infringement if we do, but, I did see someone try to make a mod based off this game a while back.
Also, I found a grecian deity associated with rage.

Eh, I don't know if it should be added or not. How would one exactly use this symbol?
Also, we cannot let this mod get too religious. For one thing, you won't get a whole lot of players from it.
Or you could post a custom order on my forum and leave all the work to me. I do mod textures for free....

I think we just found a possible dev for our mod.
I'd look before leaping.
