I was looking for a fishing mod that would expand my oceanic adventures on minecraft.
the rods would be:
Normal
Stronger (Made of stone, iron, etc)
Distance (farther cast)
Harpoon (visible large fish in the water, caught with this)
Treasure rod (Find hidden things in the deep)
Lava rod (made to catch fish mysteriously able to swim in lava, and caught pre-cooked)
Baits:
Feathers
seeds
Sapplings
worms (diggable by small shove)
minnows (caught by net set on side of boat)
chubs/larger minnows (bigger fish)
mini-squid (caught by using any rod and a minnow)
Fish:
Mackerel
Catfish
Bass
Northern Pike
Walleye
Tuna
Swordfish
Marlin
Bluegill
Crappie
Snappers
Grouper
Sharks
Small Whales
Lobsters (caught by lobster nets cast over the edge of the boat)
Crabs (Same as lobsters, but less likely)
Boats:
Normal
Strengthened/faster (Same as the rod, start with stone, then iron, etc)
Rapid boat (Much faster then any other boat)
Full boat (Larger boat, with a furnace, rods, nets, and bait)
Equipment:
Small shovel (used to catch worms)
Lobster net (used to catch, you guessed it, LOBSTERS, or the occasional crab)
The Idea of this mod is to extend the availability of fishing. I was extatic when I first found out that I could fish on minecraft, but the same thing over and over again gets old. I am not a modder yet, so I cannot do this. I was hoping someone would do it in my place. Any questions, PLEASE leave a comment or MSG me directly.
coding is not my cup of tea, but anything is worth a try. Lol also, does there appear to be anything missing? i feel like there is not something there that should be.
im trying to get a fishing mod made too, that involves adding fish mobs. i already have one modder who claims to be an amateur volunteering to help me. you may like my idea better.
also possibly combining our ideas as well
that was kind of oging to be an update. Adding more "aquatic" weapons, visible fish, and maybe some monsters you fight to get objects to make even more oceanic items.
please do so. Add the other gentleman's mod as well. combine them if you wish. please give credit to us both though. But could you please do so? Ive been trying forever to get someone to do this

Don't forget time/biome specific fish.
Some prefer dawn, some dusk, some day, some night.
Some prefer different phases of moon
Different baits (Cactus green and spider eyes!)
Some prefer different hooks (Flies, Material (Iron, Obsidian, Etc))
Craftable line with differing strengths. (Sure, you can go fishing for Shark with 20lb test line... Don't expect to reel that trucker in)
Some prefer it to be raining, some not, some prefer shade (If under a tree)
Minimum depth of water/proximity to water. (Shallow Ocean, Deep Ocean, Shallow river, deep river, lake)
(IE - No more fishing in a 1x1x1 water block).
Tie this in with ExtraBiomesXL and Biomes O Plenty.
Tie in with bees! (Some fish prefer bees as bait, new reason and strain to breed for)
Work with Foodcraftory to expand recipes and interrelated processes! (Orange Shark ala Turnip!)
Make climbing gloves using shark skin!
Why just fish? Add Clam digging and Oyster Diving, Nautilus, etc!
And of course, all the fish should come up with weights, species name, and who caught it! (this data allows you to make a mounted fish plaque of your conquests!)
Thing to remember is that there are potentially thousands of species of fish, none of them need to be their own mob, just a catchable thing, and with this, potentially thousands of best combos of bait, line, rod, time, moon phase, and weather condition!

wow... you got more into this then I did. I like some of your ideas, but how well do you think the whole biome and time thing would work? What catches fishes (in the game) is completely determined by bait, wouldn't it? Or is it possible to have all of that information into the game as well?
Also, there werent just fish, there was lobster and crab. This was a prewrite for the mod, not a final draft. If you would like, message me and we can discuss what all should be there. I like your idea of realism.

I noticed the lobster and crab after the fact, and those should involve pots rather than fishing line or nets. (Ya don't catch lobsters with nets). Nets would be good for shrimp however.
As for the biome, time, and moon phase? It's absolutely available data in the game.
A potential option if you want to get really 'silly' with it, is to modify the fishing pole interface.
You can make it so that ones manipulation of the line (look left jiggles the hook left, look right jiggles it left, looking up reels in, looking down releases line) also effects ones ability to catch fish.
In essence once the bobber bobs, you right click and enter an altered interface where your mouse movements affect the process of reeling it in rather than movement, immediately exitable using the 'esc' key of course. Can make 'fighting the fish' part of the experience.
did i saw net, i meant pot. Id atleast prefer to get a beta done before we get super crazy with it. Some extra fish, extra poles, etc. Just some small stuff so that we are sure itll work, and then we will gradually add on to it.

We could set different variables for fishing and fish available relative to which biome the player is located in. For example, if the player is fishing in an ocean, we can tell minecraft to return the reward as regular fish or some other fish. Then if the player is located in a swamp, we can tell minecraft to return the reward as and only as catfish.
I was thinking about this idea but didn't even begin to think about time and moon phases. Those open up a whole new realm of potential to this mod.
ill finalize it some time today and see what you gentlemen think. In the mean time, Lunarius please send me anything else you may have left out. :S looks like i left a lot out when i formed this idea
mind checking out my mod idea too? a link to the topic is in my last post
I'll work on your mod either separately or I'll add it in to this mod. I'm still a little wary about adding fish mobs... but perhaps we'll work something out.
Wow... dont forget that each fish (for now) should have a different bait. Either choose the ones ive listed or let me know if you think of a different one.

Alright, going to spew out a breakdown of my ideas:
Tackle Box
This is a special type of crafting bench and portable inventory. When held in the hand and right clicked it will open a combination inventory/crafting space. At the top will be a special crafting set up used to assemble/disassemble the rod. One can assemble a new rod by filling in the middle boxes, or disassemble an existing rod by placing it in the top, which will place the individual components into the boxes below, and allow you to reassemble on the bottom. Each component would have it's own damage value, and each component can break and need replacement. The inventory of the tackle box can only hold things that can be used as a reel, line, bobber, hook/lure, or bait. (This is a mock-up for example, in no way intended to be the final product)
Pole Components
Rod - The Rod is simply the 'pole' in fishing pole.
Reel - The reel is used on advanced rods, it helps to give improved control of the line during acquiring the fish.
Line - This determines the 'max pull' of the pole.
Bobber - The float on a fishing pole, used mostly in stationary fishing.
Hook/Lure - Lures are usually but not always separate from the hook.
Bait - Used to lure in fish, can consist of anything from plant matter, dyes, meats, and specially crafted baits using any combination of these and including the various kinds of dusts. (Glowstone, Redstone, etc.
Buoys and Pots
Pots
A pot is a hand placeable block with a small inventory and a place to set bait. The most basic pot will determine it's catch based on the bait placed in it. Bait is consumed every 'x-y' seconds, with a random chance to catch something based on biome placement, depth placement, and other relevant factors like time of day/moon phase.
Buoys
A buoy by itself is a block placeable on water, used for marking routes and the like. Combined with a Pot it creates a 'pot and buoy'. Right clicking a water location with one of these will place a buoy on the surface, a rope in between, and a pot at the first non-water block below the surface. Right clicking the buoy will reclaim the buoy and pot. Once in your inventory, right clicking on anything but a water block will open the contents of the buoy.
FIshing modifiers
Biomes
Time of Day
Phase of Moon
Bait
Worms - Occassionally appear when digging soil, different types of worms appear in different biomes, with an increased occurrence during rain storms.
Seeds - Pumpkin, Wheat, Melon, Carrots, Potatoes.
Dyes - Each of the dyes, in and of themselves, are not bait, but can be used to treat bait to increase it's effectiveness. Different types of fish prefer different dye/worm combos.
Lure/Hook
Weather
Water Depth

Oh, and I added a feature where if you eat a raw or cooked fish it will produce a fish skeleton. Then you can use the fish skeleton to craft 1 bonemeal.
Just an idea that was floating around in my head. This way people have an extra incentive to fish.
