As the title says I am looking for a modder that would like to take some time to sit down with me and teach me about minecraft modding. I'm currently watching a series on youtube that is supposed to explain such but I would much rather prefer someone who recently finished a mod or has a good experience in the scene. I have all the necessary requirements to start all I need a little help on is the actual code of the mod itself. I'm using Eclipse but it's all bit fuzzy to me. The schedule? Anytime you are available I will try my best to get on and begin learning. I am actually very interested in making mods. Why do I want to make mods? For fame? Money? Neither the fact of the matter is that I really enjoy working with programming languages because it's amazing what a simple little script of code can make something really great.
So please if you are interested in lending me a hand with modding I would be very grateful. We can even learn new things together =).
Why yes , yes i do!
I dont have much to show unfortunatly, i delete most of my work upon completion I usually do it for shits and gigs...
But here's a snippet from a request im taking, mind you its very simple. only adding a couple blocks and items, and its not
exactly done, but i hope it is sufficient proof that i do have atleast a bit of modding experience. :3
And when it comes to Java in general, I'm fairly accomplished
I assure you i can atleast get you making basic mods :3
package net.minecraft.src;
public class mod_crystal_ore extends BaseMod{
public static Block crystal_ore = new Block(254,0,Material.rock).setBlockName("crystal_ore");
public static Block crystal_block = new Block(255,0,Material.rock).setBlockName("crystal_block");
public static Item crystal = new Item(3043).setItemName("crystal");
public void load()
{
ModLoader.registerBlock(crystal_ore);
ModLoader.registerBlock(crystal_block);
crystal_ore.blockIndexInTexture = ModLoader.addOverride("/terrain.png","/crystal_mod/crystal_ore.png");
crystal_block.blockIndexInTexture = ModLoader.addOverride("/terrain.png","/crystal_mod/crystal_block.png");
crystal.iconIndex = ModLoader.addOverride("/gui/items.png","/crystal_mod/crystal.png");
ModLoader.addName(crystal, "Crystal");
ModLoader.addName(crystal_block,"Block of Crystal");
ModLoader.addName(crystal_ore,"Crystal Ore");
ModLoader.addRecipe(new ItemStack(crystal_block,1), new Object[]{
"XXX","XXX","XXX",Character.valueOf('X'),crystal
});
}
public String getVersion()
{
return "1.2.5";
}
}
again sorry if i sound ... odd... havent slept :/
Edit - If you take a look at that source, its EXTREMLY basic...
But it has some basic stuff in there :')
er.... to clarify, i can do alot more advanced stuff than that...
that just happens to be what im working on atm

Ah yes, ok I see. So i'm going to start reading TechGuy's thread and see what I come to. It's not that i'm a lazy person and want someones help to walk me through everything, it's just that i'm more of a visual/do-er learner. I have to see or do whatever the task is to learn how it is done, reading is one my my weaknesses because I get distracted far to easily . I actually have an idea for a basic mod right now that I want to try and make to progress further.

Holy **** I made a mod that adds crystal and crystal ore.
I can do better , honest!
I started modding 3 days ago But im picking it up.
And I DO know Java, just not the Minecraft/Modloader API
Honest! Feel free to quiz me on anything java related ^.^
That was seriously the only mod i had at the time, which is completed
and I ended up deleting again, I rarely keep my work as it clutters my
desktop, I'm strange like that
[EDIT] Unless i completly mis understood your post and you're just
saying you too made a mod similar to that
in which case, they're quite common I'm afraid
Well, I'll leave a link below to my mod in progress, but I do have a bit of coding experience, and would be glad to give help, in a while, as I want to get over the crest of said mod. It is a ores mod, with some other bits and pieces.
So please if you are interested in lending me a hand with modding I would be very grateful. We can even learn new things together =).
Touch it NAO!!!!
But I'm a little stupid today, didn't get much sleep :3
