Become Cursed! Suffer terrible fates! (Mod Request)
Plain old dying gets old after a while, so this mod idea would add a variety of evil curses to the game. You have a small chance of getting these curses when you take damage from hostile mobs or do damage to a passive/neutral one in some cases. Each mob has a unique curse/effect it can give you, some more evil than others. I did some descriptions below. I came up with curses that would horrify me if I was playing. I dont know any Java, but would have loads of fun playing a mod like this and doing a Lets Play series on Youtube.
Also, cookies would have a use! They would be eaten to clear some of the effects below.
Also, dying wouldn't clear curse effects.
Skeleton: Tracking Arrow Curse
Each time you take damage from a skeleton arrow there is a small chance (1-2% or so) of catching the Tracking Arrow curse. If you get this curse, dig yourself into a hole and hide until daylight: every hostile mob within 100 blocks will spot you and rush towards you! Curse lasts for 5 minutes or until you eat a cookie (the cure.) Oh, and if youre in a cave or otherwise away from daylight, youre screwed.
Zombie: Rotten Flesh Curse
Isnt rotten flesh delicious? Do you like having your food bar turn green and your hunger deplete at a rapid pace? Well, now you can have a lifetime supply! Each time you take damage from a Zombie, you have a 1-2% chance of getting the Rotten Flesh Curse. Every food item in your inventory (wheat, bread, pork chops, etc,) will turn into Rotten Flesh. And that includes cookiesbetter eat one before its too late! Curse lasts for 2 minutes. Will not add Rotten Flesh to your inventory if you do not have any food items, so no freebies here.
Spider/Cave Spider: Cobweb Curse
Dont you hate hacking through cobwebs in abandoned mineshafts? Got enough string for the rest of your life? Then this curse is not for you. Take damage from a spider, and theres a 1-2% chance of a mass of cobwebs spawning around you, preventing you from moving easily. No time limit on curse, and eating a cookie will not clear the cobwebs. Youll need to hack a path through the cobwebs to escape.
Creeper: Spore Infection
Ever wonder where Creepers come from? The answer: their explosions release spores, which sometimes infect other creatures and convert them to Creepers. Taking damage from a Creeper explosion has a small risk (1-2%) of becoming infected with the spores, which will be indicated by your health bar turning green, green particles around you, etc. You have 5-8 minutes before you become a Creeper. Better reach for a cookie! And if you dont have any cookies? Make some. And if you dont have any cocoa beans? Find a Dungeon, and fast. Because if you transform, you cant use tools or weapons (although you can still break blocks.) Sure, monsters wont bother you if you go cave exploring, but guess what? You cant mine that huge diamond vein you just found. (Consuming a cookie will return you to normal or stop the countdown.)
I know there's a mod out there that lets you play as a creeper, but without the horrible restrictions above. That, and it isn't a random punishment.
Enderman: Teleportation Curse
Take a hit from an Enderman, and risk a small chance (1-2%) of being transported instantly to the End. While this might be great if youre fully armored, armed, and unable to find a stronghold, it sucks if all youve got is a wooden sword and leather armor. And if you have diamonds in your inventory? Youre screwed. Die in the End and you have no way of getting your items back. Cookies will not help with this curse.
Slime: Absorption Curse (or Ragequit Curse)
Running into Slimes is now a lot scarier! Why? If one damages you, theres a 5% chance that it will absorb all the ores and diamonds in your inventory. Thats right. You could lose those 27 diamonds you just mined. Small slimes cannot do damage, but there is now good reason to fear the bigger ones. Also, cookies will not help you get your ores back.
Ghast: Banishment Curse
Take a hit from a Ghast fireball, and your Nether portal disappears completely. There would be a 1-2% chance of this happening. Youd better carry some spare obsidian in your inventory as well as your flint and steel. Eating a cookie can restore your Nether portal in its original location.
Blaze: Fire Curse
Taking damage from a Blaze will have a 1-2% chance of giving you the Fire Curse. For two minutes, you catch on fire spontaneously every 20 seconds or so, enough to drain your health a couple of hearts. Cookies will cure this curse. If you dont have cookies? Eat to keep your health up until the two minutes has passed.
Monster Spawner: Dungeon Curse
Breaking a Monster Spawner (spider, zombie, or skeleton) leaves you with a 10% chance of getting the Dungeon Curse. This curse lasts until a cookie is eaten. While cursed, any new chunks you generate will have 3x as many dungeons as usual in them. But thats more cocoa beans to make cookies with, right? Nope. The chests in the extra curse dungeons will contain nothing but saddles, the most useless item in the game! (I already have this curse, so it wouldnt matter much to me personally.)
And finally, the most horrifying curse of all:
Cow: Cow Purgatory
The horror! The HORROR!
Kill a cow for some steak (or just to shut it up) and risk Cow Purgatory.
Cows spawn all around you. Constantly. All mooing. For eight minutes.
Youll want to rip out your speakers and throw them across the room. Youll kill cows faster than McDonalds and Burger King combined. But theyll keep spawning all around you. And the catch? The curse cows wont drop any resources.
1-2% of this curse happening each time you kill a cow. Eating a cookie will stop it.
Best idea for a mod in a long time. I'm taking java programming next year. Maybe I can make it in 2-3 years? Seriously though, I hope someone who can code will like this idea and make it a mod.

(Sorry for the late response! Didn't see your post there at first.)
That would definitely be cool, even if I had to wait a while. I'm pretty patient. I know it's a lot that I put up in the first post and I think it scared away a lot of modders. Even just having a two or three of the curses would be cool.
Also, please support the mod and post daily on the thread, support it with the supplied banner on thread!
Thx! :smile.gif:
Awesome! I grabbed the banner and have it in my signature now, and will keep posting in the thread. Let me know if you need any further help with anything. I don't know any Java (just a bit of Flash programming) but I do have access to Gimp and know how to do some artwork. Also, I do live Minecraft commentaries, some of which are on mods, and can help out there as well.
Can you do a mod spotlight when it updates (in 1.2)?
Yes, I can once you update! I'm in the process of moving right now, but will do it as soon as I'm settled in. Hopefully that'll be before 1.2 comes out.
Like you: You?re obsessed with usin? question marks in the place of apostrophe?s. Isn?t this annoying? I thought so too. So neva? do it again! Look were you?re typing.

It was a formatting error. I had to copy and paste from Word and somehow all the apostrophes got turned to the question marks. I didn't have time to go back and manually change them all.

Its a mod idea, don't download it if it comes out. I think it's a great idea though.
I definitely thought about the poison, but found out that the more spider types mod has various poisons and effects already.
