This concept can be used as a total conversion or an addon to the actual game.
Summary:
It primarily consists of the following features:
Forging system
Material quality
Tool quality
Content:
Forging system:
This idea includes a forging furnace and anvil. The forging furnace would have multiple input slots used for combining and smelting item and ores together. This way materials could have its quality improved by smelting two of them together and metals could be mixed making a tier higher material. The anvil is used to shape the tools and weapons. Players would need to heat the forging material using fuel. The furnace would measure its heat and make the material act accordingly. Water containers would be used to cool the material improving its final quality by cooling the outside hardening the edges and maintaining the flexibility of the inside.
Material quality:
The concept of material quality consists of having a stackable unidentified quality material and a way to identify its quality and make it only stack with itself. For exemplo, we could have a material with '0 damage' metadata that when right clicked would drop itself with random quality. Or having the item be smelt in the furnace resulting in visible quality. This way players could stack items while collecting them and discerning them while crafting and forging.
Tool quality:
The tools would be indestructible and have speed and effectiveness measured by its quality. Its quality is measured by how effective was the forging method and the quality of the material the tool was forged with. The quality measuring system could be implemented via tool damage.
Final Product:
The final product of this idea/concept/mod would be to add a full forging system to the game and enabling the player to have a collection of armors and weapons (enchanted or not) like some RPGs.
Future Ideas:
This is basically what I'd like to see implemented in the future in someone's mod.
Changing combat mechanics to support multiple weapon types and to make weapons more different to each other. Maybe copying some of Dark Souls' concept on charging attacks and stamina.
Changing mining mechanics to mine materials a little bit with each swing of the tool. Maybe using the right mouse button. The block could change its damage and make it drop something each time it is hit until it is totally mined out, either disappearing completely or droping the raw block itself.
Conclusion:
Yep. It's unfinished.
The forging mechanics aren't too accurate (primary because I have no knowledge in pratical metal forging) and would be reasonably complex to make it all work as intened. But I believe it would be a fine addition or total conversion to Minecraft. I hope you like, comment about it and maybe try to improve it.
Thanks for reading and please reply
are you ****ing kidding me?!?! i have already started the Forge mod and you will not use it!!!
Are you ****ing kidding me? This is just an Idea! xD
But I'm glad that someone is making a mod of something similar... so I can stole MOAR ideas! :D JK.
But seriously, the final and complete concept of my ideas is to have the player to work hard to make tools and armors. To change some mechanics of the game and have items in the style of Diablo. :)
Good luck with your project! What I hope is to see more and more amazing things for Minecraft! :biggrin.gif:
I was thinking about the forging furnace mechanic. I thought of needing to heat it to smelt the materials together. The hotter the better? Like the IC2 (IndustrialCraft 2) machines. A power system. And maybe in the future, some kind of interaction with lava. Or maybe even making the Forging Furnace not made by only 1 block, but with several components for the player to assemble and make their own forge. Wow... this sounds interesting... o_o
Ideas ideas ideas. Feel free to contribute! :)
Keep in mind that these aren't for myself. This is for the community of Minecraft. It would be awesome to have a mod like this, so I took the first step to try to elaborate and design it's functionalities. :tongue.gif:
I like the idea. It will add a new aspect to minecraft that will make you put time in to get good items.
Some ideas:
-new ores like copper, tin, titanium, nickel, zinc(doesn't rust so can be used to protect tools from rust)
-new alloys like TiNi (memory metal) wich regains its durability if heated
-steel is affected by its carbon content, so u can have better durability or better damage depending on the carbon content
Tools rust more depending on what they're made of wich will slowly damage them .
My bro likes this mod as well and reckons its it should be good to add the same kind of idea to alchemy as well as smithing( refining ingredients, brewing for longer, puirifing the potions to get a stronger effect, also more potions)
Thanks for your comments!
Actually there is a mod that is getting somewhere like this. It is called TerraFirmaCraft and it is pretty cool! You should definitely check it out! Make a server with your bro or something xD
The bad thing about realistic ores is that it isn't too fun to get them once they should be generated in different types of rocks for each mineral and getting the forging too close to reality could make things too complex, but nothing that can't be well made with a good design of the forging system and tooltips.
And I found this rusting idea pretty interesting! Too bad I know nothing about real item forging and anti-rusting technics or else I could try to include it in this concept!
But seriously. This thinking about item quality make me think back to the combat mechanics. A way to make the combat deeper (something I SOOO WISH) would be to make attack animations for all the mobs and make the animation for the player slower. Yeah. Dark/Demon's Souls style (love those games ;n;).
