-a new model,
-a way to get the game to use the model,
-animation data for the poses, walking, attacking &c.,
-A default skin (presumably with the ability to change it)
I'm learning Java this semester, and already have other programming experience, so I'm wondering if venturing into Minecraft modding would be good practice for me.
I can get it done, if you can find somebody to make the model with correct animations. If you want to know how to do this, I would gladly explain it.
Would gladly download this if/when it comes out.
Great Idea BTW.

Looks like I should try using Techne, and that it basically just generates a few Java statements giving the model in terms of "draw a box here" rather than a traditional polygon file format like 3DS Max or Blender uses. Not sure whether it handles animation; haven't downloaded it yet. I'm going to have a look at that and at a basic modding tutorial (this one), and see if I can figure this out. I'd be glad for advice.
Edit: So far it's looking like questionable h@xx0r stuff is required just to start adding my own code, what with the tutorial posting about how you need a special decompiler that's illicit enough that the author will ban you for asking for it. =p
