So, you stumbled on to this thread, with your proudly Cheeto stained fingers and Vaseline covered keyboard, ready to read my suggestion, and here we are now.
So? Get on with it.
Are you sure you're ready? Do you really think that you, a simple wanderer of forums in this vast world of knowledge we call the internet TRULY worthy of viewing this spectacularly amazing topic?
Wait, what?
Fiddlesticks, back to square one. The tl;dr of it is this, This suggestion is epic, and you may or may not be ready to view it depending on whether or not you're Mr.T
I PITY DA FOO'!
You may continue, grandmaster of awesome.
More to the point.
This is a mod suggestion, and is more or less extreme survival mode. It will add new, more challenging mobs and circumstances for the player to deal with. Keep in mind, I know pretty little about computers, and my visual aids will probably be done (carefully so) in paint.
First, the fun part
Mobs
I'm going for a feel of live or die in minecraft. It's all about survival, and the creative ways you do it. Keeping with this theme, I think the mobs should be rare, powerful and generally unique to fight without that annoyed feeling you get when you cant get near a skeleton without loosing a few hearts.
Because of this, each mob MUST be unique to fight. You know, to ease the tedium.
The mobs will be large, but not to large. I've always sorta thought godzilla sized monsters made it impersonal. I want every kill to feel like you've accomplished something, but I want it to feel like that monster could be waiting in a bush near by and you cant see him.
Grizzly bear:
Size: A large foe, three blocks tall on all fours, as tall as some trees when standing. 3 blocks wide.
Attacks: 1. Dives at you, destroying trees and leaves in its way. Dives 10 blocks.
2. Bats you up into the air with one paw.
3. Bite (bump) like a zombie.
4. Swipe, destroying dirt blocks. Used to dig through simple structures and wood doors.
Health: 15-25 hearts? (most monsters have high heart values. Read weapons to find out why.)
Drops: Thick fur, bones, teeth.
Spawns: at night, near trees.
Hostile?: You tell me. I think if you get to close, they defend. To close can be be 20 blocks.
Polar bear:
Read: Grizzly bear, accept white.
Elephant:
Size: 5 tall, 4 wide, 6-7 long.
Attacks: Buck. Similar to bear swipe, accept knocks the player higher and further
Charge. He stomps a couple times, shaking the ground, then charges quickly. This is a powerful attack.
Smash. Breaks the konoodles out of houses.
Health: 25-35
Drops: Leather, bone, tusk
Spawns: In large groups (6?), in plains regions. Day or night.
Hostile?: If you get to close (5 blocks) or if you're to close to their young (15 blocks)
Woolly mammoth:
Read: Elephant, but woolly and in icey/snowy areas and bigger. Also, drops Thick fur instead of leather.
Tornado:
It's what it sounds like. I need to think about the mechanics some more, but here're the basics. It spawns in the desert and shoots sand it touches into the air. These have the potential of hurting the player. Any mobs or persons who touches it gets shot up into the air.
Pictures:
Hurricane:
Ultra strong tornado that spawns anywhere.
Sea serpent:
A long, snakelike creature.
Size: 10x1x1
Attacks: ram. hits the player quick and from far away.
grab and pull. Attempts to drown the player
Tail bash. temporarily incapacitates the player
health: 10
Drops: fish, scales, fin(?)
Spawns: semi-deep water.
Hostile?: All day, every day.
Giant squid:
Ooh, this will be a fun one. The concept is experimental, so bear with me.
Every squid is made up of different parts. The parts are the head, and the tentacles. The tentacles are segmented for realism, and each segment can be chopped off without the whole squid dieing. You kill the tentacles, then you can kill the head.
Size: Main body is 1x1x5
Attacks: Drown. Pulls you down to the crushing depths.
Squeeze. takes away air bubbles faster
Rock the boat: You get knocked out of your boat D: Oh noes!
Health: 25
Drops: Fish, Squid eye, squid tentacles
Spawns: very deep water.
Hostile?: Yeppers.
Ice Tusk:
Basically, a giant walrus. It's the size of the bear. He is slow on land.
Attacks: Breach. Launches th beast out of the water. This attack is capable of smashing through ice, and knocking the player out of his/her boat. Also, the walrus can see you through ice. Incapacitates the player
Smash. Just hits you with his tusks. Powerful blow.
Health: = to the bears
Drops: Blubber, tusk.
Spawns: under water near ice.
Hostile: Yes.
Giant Alligator:
Size: 2 wide, 2 tall, 6 long.
Attack: Bite. Basic.
Death roll. Bites you and rolls, while pulling you to slightly deeper water. Only does this in water.
Charge. Sprints a short distance.
Health: 25
Drops: Sharp teeth, Gator leather
Spawns: in water, near land.
Hostile: What do you think?
Tiger:
Basically, a smaller, slightly weaker, but stealthier bear. Steals food from chests and stalks the player, attacking when he least expects it.
Earth ant:
random nests will be generated. They tunnel underground (in dirt) and gather food. They have a mob in the nest that acts as a spawner, called a queen. You can kill her and take her hormones and control the Earth ants like HL2 ant lions :biggrin.gif: the nests are small and basic, holding 10 creatures. The queen never de-spawns.
size: 1x1x1
Attacks: basic attack. 1.5 heats damage.
Spit. Short ranged, slows player.
Health: 5
Drops: spines, carapace, Ant's scent.
Spawns: dirt, grass.
Hostile?: If you dig up their nest.
Behemoth:
The largest mob in minecraft. They destroy mountains, in search of ore, which they eat. They have the stature of large guerrillas. They are the rarest mobs.
Attack: Smash. Destroys absolutely everything.
Health: A crap load.
Drops: What's fair?
Spawns: Near huge amounts of cobblestone.
Hostile?: If attacked.
I'll add pictures later :tongue.gif: for now, use your imagination!
Craftables
Spear:

[] []
They do 7-10 damage, and re-fire slowly. They are the only weapon capable of knocking some enemies back. The flint can be traded for items like teeth, bones or tusks.
Various armors:
You know the recipe, accept with fur, scales and gator skin.
These offer different resistances to elements
Various foods:
crafted from new creature bits.
Grenade:
High damage, high risk. Explodes just like tnt.

Advanced combat
Basically, it's this. You hold shift, and double tap a direction, and you "dodge" (roll) that direction. You can also double tap W for a sprint while not holding sneak. This all takes from your stamina bar which regenerates based on the combined value of weight you are holding. The less you hold, the faster you go.
Needs
You need water, food, and temperature regulation. Over time you get hungrier. This is cured by eating. Different foods satisfy hunger different amounts. Different activities make you hungrier than others. The less hungry you are, the better you will be at whatever it is you're doing.
You need water, but not all water will do. Infinite water source would make this to easy. You need a purifier. Not sure the recipe, though..
If you're in a Ice biome or desert biome to long, your temperature will increase or decrease. Increase makes you thirsty faster, and a decrease just kills you. Sitting in arctic water brings it down faster than the air. Taking a dip can cool you off and sitting next to a burning furnace can warm the soul. Fur armor protects you from the cold and gator armor seals in your bodies water supply from the hot desert.
I also like the whole "starting from nothing thing, and the 2x2 crafting grids feature that requires you to grind for your first Axe is wonderful.
Well, that's that. If you'd like to see more stuff added, PM me with a good reason for adding it. If you want to help make this, I've never coordinated a project like this, so I'd need help.
Not really what I meant. I know about Mo' Creatures, but what I'm trying to do is have unique mobs. Mo creatures is very nice, but its got mostly atmosphere mobs. None of them are really unique to fight. That's what drove me to request this. Mobs in Mo' Creatures are all very similar in their mechanics. A large part of this mod would be to make combat more interesting. The spear was cool, but underpowered for what I'm going for (besides the explosion, which is O.P). And what exactly are you trying to get me to look at in SDK's gun mod? there like, 15 things..
It's a nice idea, but Minecraft isn't really designed for combat. Hit a creeper here, punch a skelly there. But I'd be interested in this if it could happen.

Ahh, I mis spoke. I meant to say it's meant to make surviving harder, but combat is part of that. I'll admit, the mobs are a big part, but I think it adds to the experience. Makes exploring more interesting and it makes the world seem bigger. Or at least makes you feel smaller :smile.gif:

I think this would rock!
I could especially see this a great combo with say...a trading system or something on an SMP server.
Harder to hunt, mine, everything! Working together with your neighbors to actually survive the harsh, blocky wilderness. When I want to build, Minecraft is perfect, when I want to sandbox survival, it's a little lacking :S
