Some help please (and use small, nontechnical terms ;p)
I was able to load Forge on my daughter's computer. She is running Windows 10 and Minecraft version 1.9. I think I have Forge loaded correctly, but when I went to Curse to download a mod we started having trouble.
She wanted the "Helpful Villagers" mods, and so I downloaded it, but for some reason it is downloading it as an "internet explorer" file and not a .zip or .jar and we can't open the file.
Does anyone have a clue what I am doing wrong and how to fix it?
I have the mods but it keeps downloading as "explorer" file. In my "Downloads" folder it show that it is there and a .jar folder, when I try to open the folder, it opens as an internet explorer window and nothing happens.
So I don't now what to do. I don't know why her computer is insisting on open a .jar file with explorer. I have the latest version of Java, but....but...I don't know what!

Hello Terise.
You don't need to open the Jar file. You would normally search %appdata% which will bring you to the 'roaming' directory. From here, you should find the .minecraft folder.
Minecraft mods that come in .jar or .zip files will go into the Forge 'mods' folder. You don't need to open or extract the mod contents anywhere or 'launch' the mod file. You can simply drag the mod onto the desktop and then drag the mod into the 'mods' folder.
Come to think of it, I don't think that the "Helpful Villagers" mod is even updated to the 1.9 version of Forge. The most stable release is for the Minecraft version 1.7.10.
The links that IHazFury gave you are very helpful, I suggest you check them out!
Thanks for the tips. I guess that I'm not explaining my problem correctly. Wish I knew how to explain it better.
When I downloaded "helpful Villagers" from Curse it says it is a .jar file, but for some reason her computer is trying to open .jar files using internet explorer
I hear you saying that I don't need to open the .jar file and I understand the ".minecraft/mods" folder, but dragging this "explorer" file into "mods' does nothing.

Somehow I need to change back the default that has her computer using internet explorer to open .jar files and I can't seem to do that.
I wish I could show someone a screen shot of when the downloaded file looks like on the desk top.

You can:
In windows search for "Snipping Tool" and open it.
Use it to choose the part of the screen you want to share with us.
Then save it somewhere and upload it as attachment to your post.
To the problem with the mod:
You only need to copy the mod file to .minecraft/mods
You never need to open it when installing a mod.
The only thing you actually need to open is the forge 1.7.10 installer wich you can download as .exe aswell. It might tell you to run the 1.7.10 at least once. In that case open the minecraft launcher and click "edit profile" in the bottom left corner. Then choose "release-1.7.10" in the drop down menu titled "version".
Run minecraft until you reach the title screen, close it, run the forge installer, put the .jar in the mods folder, start the minecraft launcher, choose the newly created Forge profile, start minecraft
and have fun
Use the Curse Launcher. It makes creating Profiles, adding Forge and mods much easier. Helpful Villagers is on the Curse website so you can install it using the Launcher.

For forge, refer to this link: http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/164341/how-exactly-do-i-install-minecraft-mods-and-what-is-forge
Make sure to use the 1.7.10 version, though.

This should be the link to the mod, put that in your .minecraft/mods/ folder.
Google has many tutorials on installation of mods if you get confused along the way.

I know Curse Client I use it for World of Warcraft. So I downloaded it on to my daughter's computer, but it can't "find" Minecraft.
I keep getting this error message.
Any suggestions?
It seems like Curse Client knows you own minecraft but it doesn't find it.
Maybe this will help.
Not the Curse Client, Curse Voice (the link I provided).
