I am an expert modder, server administrator, modpack creator, and Minecraft technical specialist that needs some help on a problem that needs attention.
3 of my favorite mods of all time are Custom Npcs, Ancient Warfare, and Bibliocraft (well not so much bibliocraft. May be top 20.) and I thought they would all be awesome together in a modpack - in 1.8. Those last two words are the problem.
I haven't found any source of Bibliocraft nor Ancient Warfare being available for 1.8, which REALLY sucks. Most people will just say "use 1.7.10" but unfortunately I can't. My friends and I created a huge world on my server that they (and I) would be devastated if ruined. It's in 1.8, so I'm trying to get those three mods together. Thankfully Custom Npcs is already 1.8 compatible (Thanks Noppes!) but nor are the other two. I tried using a 1.7.10 modpack on the world but it ended up turning signs into weird syntax format signs and emptying chests. Not only did it remove 1.8 blocks, it replaced them with blocks of the same ID, which was really annoying. In places where there were spruce fences there were a TON of Buildcraft quarries. That took forever to rebuild.
Anyways, my question is: Is it possible to use those other 2 mods in 1.8?
Or, if not, is there a solution to make this world not screw itself up when switching to 1.7.10?
Suggestions would be appreciated.
If nobody can figure this out I'll try using WorldEdit to schematic everything to a new world, but I'd rather do one of the above methods.
Thanks! Gunner

Word of advice, don't claim to be an expert at something and then ask a question which totally disproves that claim.
A 1.7.10 mod cannot work on 1.8. There were many big changes, especially with visual rendering. Most mods you'll see updated are ones that no or very few blocks or items added.
My suggestion is to look for 1.8 mods. There's a few that kinda/sorta fill Bibliocraft's spot, but Ancient Warfare is another story.
If you want to move world to 1.7.10 without messing up ids replacing, first open it in clean 1.7.10 version, then close it and then open it with mods. This will remove unknown blocks first, so when other blocks take they're old id, they won't be replaced...

Er...1) You said it yourself. Your the expert. Why you not know the answer? WHYYYY???
2) You asked AND answered your own question:
"Is it possible to use those other 2 mods in 1.8?"
"I tried using a 1.7.10 modpack on the world but it ended up turning signs into weird syntax format signs and emptying chests."
Im no expert, and I could have told you that 1.7.10 mods are never, will never, and cannot work in 1.8. Thats why they say the mod is FOR 1.7.10, or FOR 1.8, and not "Oh it should work on 1.7, 1.7.10, 1.8..."
If you really want those last 2 mods, stick to 1.7.10 until they release those 2 as 1.8 versions, OR scrap those 2 mods in favor of 1.8, and do stuff in 1.8 without those mods until they are out, then put them back in later.

Hello,
When I said that I did not mean I answered my own question. I happened to use a different 1.7.10 modpack that did not contain either 3 of those mods, "I tried using a 1.7.10 modpack on the world but it ended up turning signs into weird syntax format signs and emptying chests." So, according to elix_x, I can load my world onto a clean 1.7.10 world without mods, then load the mods and it won't create the weird syntax signs and empty chests?
Thanks, Gunner
PS Yes jasonelderid and shawndaddy_mc I probably should've left that out
PPS Thanks jadenPete for the mod but some of the main reasons I needed Bibliocraft were for the Painting Press. I will look into that mod though because I do need tables/chairs.

Yes, that should allow you to import the map to 1.7.10 without it getting messed up. However everything from mods will be removed in the process. By
"using a 1.7.10 modpack on the world[/b]", did you mean that you tried using a 1.7.10 pack in 1.8, or that you transferred the save folder from your 1.8 modpack to the 1.7.10 modpack?

Please don't PM me asking for help, I will just redirect you to the appropriate forum, where there are others who are far more skilled than me.
I use a server to manage this world. The world is for Vanilla Minecraft 1.8, and when I tried to switch to 1.7.10 I set the server's version to Forge 1.7.10 with the mods from my modpack. It was still set to the same world. I noticed that when I logged on it did that to everything that I viewed, areas that had not rendered yet were unaffected. So yes, Option 1
Thanks, Gunner

So you had a 1.8 server, running forge 1.7.10?

My server (BisectHosting) has an FTB client. The jar it was using when it was vanilla 1.8.3 was minecraft 1.8.3 + bukkit, and when i switched to my 1.7.10 modpack the .jar was forge 1.7.10 with the mods from my modpack in /mods. I'm sure there's a more complicated way to load a modpack instead of just loading the mods but the admin said it was the easiest way.
I will try loading my world unmodded to 1.7.10. I am fine with it removing 1.8 only blocks but I hope to god it does not screw up signs/chests. I think there are some mods that add back 1.8 only blocks like different wood fences/doors/gates, banners, barriers, slime blocks, and bunnies. World Edit will cover commands (I hope).

And that would be because they've already gotten several answers.
You're right; he did get several answers. You're wrong, however, about people not being "civil." He got his chops busted a little. That's it. He even admitted he shouldn't have called himself an "expert" before you even commented. So I'm confused why you felt you needed to step in and offer no help but to say we should be civil. SJW much?

Because I see no need in people ripping into him about a simple mistake he made? And it can cause an off-topic argument precisely like this one? That's why.

For the occasion that I wanted to test the 1.7.10 modpack on it, yes; however otherwise it's Vanilla Craftbukkit 1.8.3.

Is that site trustworthy?
Can we please keep this civil and actually help them?

That'll be why it didn't work. How did you even get it to install? Forge 1.7.10 wouldn't even be looking for a 1.8 jar file.
