Me and my friends want to make an extreme survival server, not one where it's just annoying to get resources because that's just tedious. I mean one where it's hard to "Stay" alive. We originally tried a mix of things like envirocraft, mo' zombies, and cracked zombies mod. However, all that really did was make it so we no longer needed to grow our own food. Do you guys have any suggestions on mods that make life difficult? We don't want bosses btw, just normal mob mods for 1.7.10 please provide a link if possible or the full name of the mod.
One of the mods I am developing aims to create a challenging adventure. You could technically classify it as an RPG mod, however, stuff like that is optional, and doesn't need to be taken into account. Basically, to sum it up, the mod adds several new, difficult mobs, along with a host of new weaponry/armors to help you out. There are bosses, but if you aren't in to bosses, you don't need to bother with them as you can only spawn them in. Anyways, if this sounds like something that you and your friends would enjoy, give Ascension a try.
I saw a mod showcase a while back for a Solar Apocalypse mod. You've got 3 Minecraft days before the sun sets the whole surface world on fire. That certainly makes things more challenging. There may be other mods like that.
Also, Mo' Creatures makes the game a lot harder if you don't turn down the spawn rate for ogres and golems (who destroy blocks and have a lot of life).

I'm finding that I have a lot of lag client side for my server. Does having too many mods that add creatures really lag up the game that badly?
I have the following installed:
mo creatures
mo zombies
cracked zombies
more weapons
Archimedes ships
witchery
railcraft
and envirocraft
I think just taking out a few would really help, probably cracked zombies and mo zombies because that seems to crank up the spawn rate exponentially. Though I will say seeing a golem for the first time freaked me right out!
try terrafirmacraft. It makes life difficult, but realistic
i forget if terrafirma craft is compatible with it, but if it is play it alongside infernal mobs by atomic stryker for pure masochistic die in the first 5 minutes "!FUN!".
[edit] sorry about the ninja edit, but i thought i should add, i've been at this point before myself, one idea i always kicked around but never actually did was a non-whitelist hardcore mode SMP server, our little collection of friends has done one-off nights like that occasionally but not the full blown idea, mainly because no one seems to last more than 4-6 hours, if even that long.[/edit]

i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.
