There is its just a lot of effort...Most mods cant afford that much effort in protecting there mod.
It's not that hard. Just release your mod under a license that grants (or does not grant) redistribution rights in a way that makes you happy. Some people are already working on that part. Then, if you find someone who is violating your license, you send them a DMCA notice. Once you have notified them, they are obligated by law to use your property according to the terms of the license or stop using your property altogether.
Doing this requires spending zero monies. There's nothing to afford. Any copyright holder can do it on their property.
I think I found another website not on the list already: 3minecraft.com. I haven't checked the files (don't want to get malware), but the web design seems really cursory and I'm sure that no good can come out of the xminecraft series. Besides, Mo Creatures can be found there.
EDIT: This isn't really a separate site but it seems that 5minecraft.net even has some type of "image library" (a page with tons of links to photos and no background/formatting):
http://img2.++5minecraft.net/mods/ (remove the 2 plus signs for the real link).
I just found an instance of my Creep Mod being hosted on http://file-minecraft.com, one of the 'bad sites' listed on this page.
I've asked them to take it down, but in the event that they don't, I'd kindly request help from others, especially if you've had issues with this site yourself. I would also appreciate anyone who could tell me where and how to report this to have it taken down if the need arises.
Also, thankyou CoolSquid for creating this thread! I never realised how widespread this problem was until I became a mod author myself. You have my ongoing support.
I've also featured this list as my Community Spotlight on my mod's main thread :3 Keep at it!
Problem : Most modders don't have a website! Besides , all I do is simply click the download button and play Minecraft.
No, but most modders have an easily available MCF thread or Curse page. Do you want the simple click on the download button to be the last click on your computer because of malware?
.... Make sure to disable adblock so we can support these guys....
That's really bad.....They have lots of popups I disabled my adblock and everytime I clicked something a new window with ads was up
That is why I use Adblock in the first place :-|
So, my point is that being on this list is not the same as a site being shut down and depriving anyone who likes the site of it. Anyone who feels they are unfairly treated can get on and clear those questions up, like Skydaz did.
Skydaz was never unfairly treated. They redistributed mods without permission, and was removed when they stopped doing it. They made it all sound like we did treated them bad, which isn't true.
Well, we asked minecraftmods.com to stop just today, and hey, message removed. So there's the 'other kind' for you.
May I suggest blocking all visit request coming from minecraftmods.com? It is possibly to recieve where an user came from, so you could display a warning, or redirect them to AdFly.
(I had posted a warning notice on the 15th, but it looks all but gone today)
EDIT: It looks like they fixed the problem. All good here. If any of you are having problems, it looks like they're willing to use official download links. I approached them about it and it's fine now
Before I knew this, Softonic is the worst website I ever seen. It gets games that are addictive so someone will download it. After someone downloads it, people will get stuck with the "Softonic" download on the screen. Now it's more bad than ever.
Well, seeing as alot of modpacks use these mods without permission and that is technically redistributing. That could go to there friend or anyone. So let me see are you going to DMCA and email every exchange of a mod in this. If I sent my friend a mod without permission am I going to expect a DMCA? Add technicpack to your list. The website has mods redistributing everywhere. Not convinced? some have adfly links and advertisements. Not fair to go to websites and not the biggest source of it...

I found both of these by using this filter that CoolSquid provided (I forgot where):
