I think the problem people have is how much it fills the community and forums with, honestly most of the time, crappy mods. Look at the PMC mods section, their community doesn't have a "rule" against generators and the site is mostly filled with the same generic mods, tool mods, ore mods, etc. And not the kind on here like TiCon or Metallurgy (Metallurgy IMO is a generic mod, but it's one of the mainstream generic mods), I'm talking ones that add hundreds of different tools, with the only difference being slight durability changes and different colours. No originality, the same generic mod over and over again. Sure, everyone starts off somewhere, and this is why I'm on the fence about MCreator, but when the same stuff is posted over and over again with no original content to back it up, it fills the community with crap and causes a rise in the generic mods for the next wave of mods.
I don't think MCreator should be removed from the servers (I say this sometimes on IRC as a joke), but I do think on here it should be more regulated, and there should be a stick thread somewhere throughout the whole Modding section saying that MCreator is not supported here and you can't expect to make the next Thaumcraft or IndustrialCraft using MCreator. If you want help with MCreator, you should go to the MCreator forums, these forums don't support it and you will get flamed.
Also, just saying for the "You pay those nobbish modders from your pocket or they sit on your head and make their mods." line. If you look around the forums for a bit, a lot of the regulars here absolutely wreck people who use MCreator, most explain why it's not a good idea to use it, some just don't bother and tell you to literally "stop sucking on the bottle and learn Java", but a lot of the regulars here will tell you the exact same thing, learn Java and stop using MCreator.
Not all the people have the ability or the time to learn java. MCcreator has limited potential (until now) but a big respond to the Haters sorrounding this forum and especially the forge forums. It gives a chance for every guy to make something from their own and feel something better than playing a game without meaning (and yes i think minecraft is boring at vanilla).
I was trying to make a mod, (you know what i mean) and finally didi it. Noone (except 1 guy) gave me real help, 1-2 (you for example) helped me with riddles (at least you tried) and the rest of the users kept saying "learn java", "learn java". Now i have finished my mod, learned a few things (not many) on my own and still dont know java. At least now I am happy and I know that when i go home at evening i will give my self a break make some shield textures and see them in game. Thats enough for me and others.
MCcreator help us do that, as responce to those people who just dont share knowledje so they will not loose their gredits. They want to be the only to make mods, and feel gods and all the other to thank them. Ok it is good to have some great modders around, but still they can make the awsome mods and we all other do simple mods. Whats the problem afterall???
If i dont like a mod, i dont download it. It will still be there and it willcausing me any problem. 80% of minecraft mods seem really stupid to my eyes. But i dont complain, i just dont download or use them. nobody forces me to do so.
Having experience with forums around modding and scripting (worked on TES Oblivion mods, worked on Morroblivion and used scripts on RPtools) i have notticed that the minecraft community is the worst around. Many kids (in mind), many haters, and many "smart" guys. In other forums when someone asked a question, people were giving actual help, so they can continue their projects. Nobody care in TESNexus for example if 60% of modders were made idiotic mods, or "dirty" mods (mods with problems in code). If they didnt want to pay with them, they ignored them.
Finnaly for my concern i work on MCreator. I play with CustomNpcs and Millenaire (great mods both but incopleted). CustomNpcs is a locked mod, that will not allow the players to add their own items to the game. Millenaire is a village building mod that is not givving the choice to the player to populate the villages with its own kind of npcs. so i wanted to find a mod that will complete those two mods to my prererence. When i couldnt find something i decide to make a mod of my own. So i started creating a mod that will add a huge variety of items in game so will be able to decorate my npcs and a mod that will summon empty villages with variety (using the millenaire mechanics) that i can put my npcs to act. an i am happy. My mod may seem idiot and useless for others but is quite usefull for me because it help me achieve what i want to do. Quite simple heh?
I help Mcreator for this and i hope it will advance more and more and allow everyone to make whatever they want to make.
Everything is about fun. Mcreator is like the Minecraft editor (the one most games have)

That's the standpoint I agree with on MCreator. The one's I don't agree with are one's who ask how to make something outside the reach of MCreator and then complain about things like Java.
While it is true the Minecraft modding community is very uptight, it is to keep the crap mods out of the forums. What happens, and this especially happens with forums, is the good mods get posted every once in a while, and then a pile of crap mods get posted and all of a sudden the good mod(s) are toward the bottom of the stack so-to-speak. I see this happen a lot with other games, you'll be browsing and their's ten different generic mods, then one original interesting mod, then another twenty generic mods, then two interesting mods, etc. Hard to find the good mods, here however we expect that people who want to mod know that it requires a fairly decent understanding of Java, and if you don't want to / can't learn Java, either accept that and stay away from the harder side of modding, or simply don't mod.
I don't really give riddles, I just teach through words. I won't give you some code that explicitly does exactly what you ask for because you don't learn anything that way. I'll give you a hint for what to do, and maybe a push in the right direction (such as saying look at the vanilla code), and let you work it out for yourself, and then see if you can figure it out. That way I'm not spoonfeeding code and you're learning something. This is a standard in the programming community, we'll sometimes give snippets to explain something, but mostly we describe through words. What happens in other communities when people are just given code? Those people asking questions usually copy and paste the code they're given. Stack that up with how many questions they have, and quickly you have a slow, messy, bulky and overall not very quality mod, sometimes riddled with bugs. If you are given a rough guide in words that points out what to do instead of just giving you the code for the end product, you'll follow it step-by-step and over the process learn things, develop habits, etc. You will write your own code.
This is what makes programming an art rather than a job. When you're copy pasting code you're not exactly willing to put the effort in to going the extra mile and make your code something to be proud of, because most of the time it is messy code that has been wrote up on the spot. If you code everything yourself, over time you'll understand and learn that writing code is not a job, it's an art, and you'll want to make your code nice and neat. You'll want to organise your code, you'll want to show your code off.
I recognise that some people can't learn Java, and I'm not getting upset over those people, if you can't learn Java for some suitable reason, at least recognise that because you don't know Java, you will not be able to do a lot of the more advanced stuff, and (this may sound harsh, but again, you should know and expect that this requires some good understanding of programming and Java) you shouldn't be wasting people's time asking questions when you don't know the requisites (in other words, don't ask about how to use ASM to manipulate bytecode to overwrite a vanilla method if you don't even know Java), you'll get stuck and possibly even cause even more issues than what you originally had.
It's just two different sides to the same topic. You see modding as something fun that should be encouraged for all, I agree with this, but at the same time I see modding as something that should be kept serious and professional somewhat, we shouldn't have the general good, sometimes great, mods be flooded and buried by the crappy generic mods. We should be filtering out the generic mods, keeping them on the low, and instead building up the future-modders who are learning to mod to make bigger, better and more original mods. This is where MCreator comes in. I personally see MCreator as the same as those programming languages using bricks meant for kids. It's to get you used to the fundamental concepts behind modding, not even those, just pretty much what you can do in modding. Once you want to actually add some decent functionality to your mod, you need to start looking ahead of mod generators and into learning Java, and into coding the mods yourself.
And just a side note, I'm pretty sure everyone thinks vanilla is at least a little boring, why else would we be here?

I agree about Nexus. Especially since Minecraft (game, mods, resource packs) seems to often be available on sites that are full of ads which purposely confuse the download button in order to load you with adware. I dont think the mod creators are doing that to make money so Im not sure who is recommending those sites. There are better sites. Or even DIY (do it yourself).
With an old desktop computer that would no longer run the latest windows stuff years ago I loaded a linux server OS. I now have my own lnternet server with hundreds of email accounts (friends and family), a couple dozen domains, forums, irc, 2 online worlds, and runs hundreds of multiplayer games (Dominions 4 and Conquest of Elysium 3). Ive been thinking of adding Minecraft server mode to it also. I am not saying that everyone can do this but I am surprised that no one seems to do it. It takes far less computer to be a server for anything, than it does to create the content that gets served up.
