I have Mo Creatures, Food Plus, BiblioCraft and Pam's HarvestCraft mods. They've all updated to 1.7.2, but I'm still in 1.6.2. I tried to search the Internet to help but didnt have much luck. I'm hoping someone can answer me directly because I really want to get the 1.7.2 version of Minecraft. PLEASE help me!

I know to update Minecraft itself, but how do I update the mods. Do I reinstall them? If so, how? People mention a process about changing the names of some files, but it left me confused.

Go into the "mods" folder in your .minecraft folder, and delete all of the 1.6.2 mod(s). Then re-download the 1.7.2 versions of the mod(s), and put them back into the "mods" folder. Make sure you are running a 1.7.2 version of Forge, or else it won't work.
Make a new profile (do yourself a favor, change the game directory to a more accessible folder, with a name containing the new version)
Run the new version of Minecraft.
Download and run the Forge jar.
Edit your profile to use that version of Forge.
Run it.Install the new mod versions inside the new /mods folder.
Test stuff, and copy your old worlds over if desired.
You can now switch between versions by picking the corresponding profile.

Alright, but is there a way to keep from losing progress? I have a big orchard and made all KINDS of food from Pam's HC; and I kind of don't want to lose them.

Also there was something about using text readers like Notepad ++ to change the text of some file (I can't remember) from the current Minecraft version to an updated one (ie "1.6.2" to "1.7.2."). Can someone elaborate on that?

Thank you guys for being SO helpful to me! Seriously, I know jack-all of updating mods and dealing with folders like this and all that. If there's anything else you can tell me to help me further, please don't hesitate to share it!
