I want to get a gaming computer for minecraft. I also want to download mods if possible. Will getting mods slow down or make my computer get viruses? These are some of the mods I want:
Timber Mod
Rei's Minimap
Aether mod (Maybe, if I can.)
These are just a few I might get but do you have any suggestions on mods that don't slow down your PC?
The more mods you have, the more the game is gonna slow down. Unless you have a REALLY good computer that can run anything. I can run minecraft fine on my computer, but adding a few big mods, it slows down quite a bit.
It also depends on the size of the mod and what it does. If your computer can't handle it fully: Mods like the Aether are gonna cause a bit of lag(at least when you're IN the aether). Mods that add a lot of world gen and mobs will also cause more lag. If your computer can't handle it, even a minimap mod could add lag because it has to visually update the map constantly.
The simple explanation would be: The more the game has to do, the more it's gonna lag. The more it has to load, the more it's gonna lag.
If your computer is a really good computer, then it shouldn't be a huge deal, but if it's JUST good enough to run Vanilla Minecraft, then it might lag a bit if you add a lot of mods.
It also depends on your computer specs,If you can give us your computer specs then it'll would be useful. As far as i know, mods do effect your gameplay but it doesn't effect a lot. Please pm me if you can get your computer specs.

This is my planned build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1Us7y
Just a really cheap build mainly for minecraft. I wont be recording or anything either.
I have 64 mods loaded with OptiFine and FpsPlus++. But one world I made made my Minecraft slow down even with OptiFine and FpsPlus++ like an alcoholics doing lazy stuffs. Can you please fix?

Clarification: getting mods does NOT slow down your computer. Mods affect your Minecraft game session with a current Minecraft profile. They doesn't modify your registry/whatever. Moreover, you can make several profiles containing various mods, as well as a clear vanilla profile, and choose them randomly.
However, getting "mods" from a unreliable sources can get you some viruses and/or adware instead.

The question was if you downloaded mods, does it slow down your minecraft screen
To which the answer has been said multiple times in the thread, somewhat.
Installing mods does not slow your game down, until you start to install too many mods. I run a laptop which has 8GB RAM (previously 2GB), integrated graphics, and just general crap hardware, and my Minecraft runs smoothly at over 100 mods with Optifine installed, without, decent FPS (~20, decent to me, 50+ with Optifine), but lags down after a little while.
