When I search for 1.6.1 mods, I keep finding mods that claim to be 1.6.1 ready, but when I check here and other reputable sites, they are only at 1.5.2 It seems that someone named "Andrew" posts many of them and he/she even posts on this forum and has links to those sites, which is even more disturbing - as I try to only download from here.
So far I haven't suckered for anything that wasn't legit... Other than that thing where I had to pay some guy in Russia to take that virus off my computer three or four times.... j/k
Is this commonly known thing for experienced users on this forum? I am a noob, so this is all just trying to sort it out with common sense.
Minecraftdl DOES have some real mods, however they mislabel the mods to get more downloads.
You might find something that says 1.6.1 and its a real mod, but it only works on 1.4.7.
At least that's my experience when I first started using mods I used to download from them and never had any issues other than mis-versioned mods, but they make money from downloads.
Personally though, I would stay away from it anyway.
If there is a mod your waiting on, it will most likely be here first anyways.
In my opinion, I would recommend staying away from sites for mods other than this one and planet minecraft. I am betting the rest want a virus on your computer

Same suggestion here, there are alot of unreliable sources out there, that mislabel versions on downloads tied to adf.ly links that most likely go to the offending site, rather than the mod's author. For many mods it will usually be a few days at least until they get updated, as many need to wait for other tools or dependencies to be updated first.
