I have recently been trying to find a version of the Single Player Commands mod that doesn't require me to download something like Download Manager or go through Adfly... such programs and sites are known for their adware, spyware, malware and trojans and my anti-virus won't even give me the option to allow the download or installation of such things... I could easily just disable my anti-virus and try to clean up my system of such things after downloading SPC, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a site where I could find a direct download that won't attach all sorts of unwanted files to this particular freeware... I would even be completely willing to pay for such a mod if it meant that it was clean... it's a great looking mod, but I saw my buddy's brand new beast of a machine slowed down to a crawl after he installed it and I definitely don't want to expose my custom built beast of a gaming/programming computer to such nasty things as their removal can be quite tedious and I prefer my tedious activities to be spent building monolithic structures in a virtual environment... any helpful feedback would be greatly appreciated... thank you for reading...
awesome... thanks for the response... it was quite helpful... I hadn't thought to try the "alternate" and my anti-virus didn't like what the "preferred" had to offer...

Nortan anti virus, the one thing worse than having a virus.
Seriously quite a few anti virus software packages pick up on adfly ads (it has been proven to have some malicious ads), however there are also scripts that can be used to bypass adfly
everywhere you go these days, there are sites and software trying to maliciously infect your computer... mostly with adware and spyware... what we need is legislation to better protect internet users, not the corporations that utilize such despicable practices... I guess in order for that to happen, we'd first need a government that worked for the people rather than themselves and corporations that keep them in power... but they're too worried about making sure that we don't bad-mouth them on Facebook to care... *sigh*... where did that come from?... ah well... -end rant-
Govrenment cant do a thing, its global not national. Personally I think adfly should be banned from the forums (it is known to host malicious software).
Anyway that is off topic. Depending on tge browswr you use I could provide links to adfly bypass scripts.
that COULD come in handy... I usually use Chrome, but I use Explorer for my school work... something about their system, some things just don't work right unless you're using Explorer... but every once in a great while, I'll find a site that doesn't like either and I have Firefox on standby for a third option...
and yes, I do agree that it is a worldwide issue, but there are things that national governments can do to make certain practices illegal within their own country... certain companies will still work around it by running their servers in a different country, but regardless of the circumstances, such legislation could make it far more difficult for sites like Adfly to infect so many systems... and then again, maybe the conspiracy theorists are right... maybe the government wants sites like Adfly to place the spyware and trojans on your system and sites like Facebook to keep track of where you are, what you're doing, who you know, etc...
I use tapermonkey to run scripts and this script will skip adfly sites. Note that this will prevent modders from getting revenue, but lets face it your computers security is more important

I barely care since I use a mac for Web Browsing.
I and would like modders to get Revenue

sigh.... a mac does not make you imune to maleware. Malware generally has to be targeted to a platform, because most people use windows most malware is target to that. But there are mac versions out there (just more rare). You should still be aware of computer security.
I would also like to point out that I have my view on how unsafe adfly is and as a modder would never knowingly send people to a site that is proven to be a security risk, and am a little disturbed that so many have no problem with it.
Besides, If you really want modders to get revenue, donate to them.

I used Norton in the past when downloading stuff through ad.fly and never had a issue with adware/malware/spyware.
I now use AVAST! and still don't have any issues. And I use ad.fly on the daily basis.

I do have Avast for mac and it's great.
I am aware just a little less

Why is everyone scared about adfly? I download a lot of things trough there and I've never got any bad stuff, probably thanks to adblock plus tough
perhaps you guys just haven't noticed the spyware, adware, malware and trojans... for the most part, the only thing you'd notice is malware unless you're VERY attentive... my buddy, who's fairly new custom built beast of a gaming computer was slowed down because of sites like Adfly, didn't even notice that his system was running so slow because it was a gradual process... but after repeated exposure to such things, your system WILL begin to have issues regardless of whether or not you notice them... but hey, if you don't notice, then keep letting Adfly upload malicious software onto your system...
and I'm all for contributing to the compensation of a modder's efforts, but there has to be a better way than letting Adfly force me to wipe my drives... like I have already stated, I would be more than willing to pay for good mods... maybe one of you modders out there can set up a site that allows gamers to buy mods in a secure fashion rather than letting unethical companies like Adfly install their malicious softwares on the systems of people who think everything should be free...

oh yeah, almost forgot to say thanks... could definitely come in handy...
I'm guessing malware, spyware, etc all use the internet connection (They wouldn't have a point if they didn't), and I check my packet data quite often with Wireshark. I've never noticed any suspicious connections.
most of them work with/through your browser... basically, anytime you do anything online, spyware and adware record your activities and send them to wherever they were meant to send their accumulated data... trojans on the other hand lie dormant within your system until they are used for other nefarious purposes... they're basically backdoor programs to allow others to access your system and the access itself the only thing that Wireshark would notice, so you'd have to be monitoring traffic at the exact moment your system was accessed... it's standard practice for Adfly to upload their adware on to the systems of everyone that downloads anything through their site... it's how they make their money by selling their accumulated data to various companies... other malicious software is usually embedded in the downloads themselves... Adfly doesn't bother to scan the downloads as that would hurt their bottom line... they don't care about your system, just the data they can get from uploading their adware...

btw, if you really want to know if your system is clean, I suggest using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware... note: this is not an anti-virus software, but a scanner and removal tool... one of the best on the market too...
I don't understand where you are getting all this bad stuff. I have avast! free version, and use Chrome with Adblock Plus, and I download Adfly links all the time with no trouble at all.
You really should only download things by following links from the original threads on minecraftforum.net or Planet Minecraft as an alternative (though maybe not quite as safe). The first few Google results are usually BS links that either are fake or malware-ridden, so stay away from those.
I've been on the internet daily since '93 (or was it '94?), and have only ever gotten viruses or malware from running exe's that I knew were a risk to begin with. Heck, I only started using antivirus a little over a year ago, I never felt like the slowdown it causes to be worth the protection that it provides, but avast! seems to be the least intrusive and the best at keeping definitions up to date (not to mention it's free!)
Mostly, just use some common sense, if a site looks suspicious, don't download from it, only use trusted sites like this one. Also, don't fall for sites that claim to have the latest version of a mod on the day (or even weeks after) Mojang updates Minecraft. If it isn't updated on the OP on this forum (or an official site for the mod) , it hasn't been updated yet. People seem to be suckers for that because they are too desperate to wait for a mod to update.
EDIT: Just downloaded the Adfly link automatic install for 1.5.2 with no problems.
Sincerely,
