Feed the Beast and Tekkit both get permissions from their authors and are both legal, there was a time when tekkit would distribute it's mods illegally/immorally however they have seen the errors of their ways and changed for the better, this has even been acknowledged by Slowpoke (Author of FTB). The main differences is that Feed The Beast focuses on a more balanced gameplay which is more difficult, tekkit is often unbalanced and often has many exploits. I have been playing modded minecraft for over two years starting with the Technic Pack and Moving over to Feed the Beast (as well as playing with my own modpacks). I personally feel that there is no right or wrong answer for which is better.
I personally feel that Feed the Beast is the better of the two however that is just an opinion.
FTB pushes "balance" changes on mods and is the reason redstone engines are going to be nerfed into the ground next patch and has at least once said that mod makers would have to pay to get their mods in, before quickly saying "It was a joke" when this reached the expected level of drama
Tekkit lets mod makers have free reign with whatever they want to do
FTB makes money, yet the only person who's seen a cent of it is Slowpoke
Tekkit is non-profit and the day they added their donation button to give to mods ended up giving mod makers more donations than they'd ever received in the past
FTB refuses to add Minefactory Reloaded because it'll make other mods look bad. Their words, not mine
Tekkit refuses to add Gregtech because they don't want to deal with Greg's massive ego and prefer playing for fun rather than tedium
FTB is supposed to be centered around a map. When did the last one of those come out?
Tekkit launched the entire modpack craze
Tekkit is the clear winner

The Redstone Engine was never thought to be used for machines, And as much as I've seen from slowpoke this really sounds like his kind of humor. Iirc I even watched the stream where he said that, and there was no drama on that stream. It was pretty clear that this was a joke.
Doesn't change the fact people used them for machines in order to get a nice start on things. And stream? No, it was an IRC chat to an up and coming modder. And yeah, he's pretty insistent with balance changes a lot. Doesn't take "Change the config file" as an answer
Go look at the drama around Tinker's Construct at the moment for an example. That's Slowpoke's doing
Oh and none of the FTB team "forces" any of the modders to include anything in their mods, but they are friends and thus they of course influence indirectly what's being made with the mods. So you could turn that argument around "Because the Tekkit team isn't friend with the modders they have no influence on needed changes like bugfixes.
Hey, speaking of bugfixes, heard of any bugfixes to that liquid error in Forestry and how it doesn't have any things in place for any liquids outside of the Forestry ones and the Liquid Metal ones? Yeah. No surprise Tekkit doesn't keep that buggy thing in when it will guaranteed crash if you try to use its tanks on anything odd. If only he had the sense to program in some edge cases in case he couldn't render the liquids
That's simply not true. Slowpoke himself donated a bunch of money to the modmakers, and participated in a bunch of charity events for Childplay, as did many of the other modauthors, whose mod are in the pack.
I have no problems with the mod authors. I have every problem with Slowpoke. Everything I've heard indicates that all of the money goes towards the ones in the Big 5 mods, whereas any lower mod gets jack squat
Honestly I got MFR, and it's a nice mod, but there is nothing in it that would be so advanced that this would make any sense imho. Could you please provide a quote with source for that statement
I can't provide Power Crystal's PMs, but it has to do with how his Rednet kind of destroys Redpower and doesn't lag your server to bits. People wanted him to split it up into parts so they could only include certain parts, where he promptly said "Yeah, no"
So what? I don't like Gregtech either (And I use neither FTB nor Tekkit, btw...they both don't offer the stuff I like, so I have my own mod compilation). But others do like it. That's simply a matter of taste and is neither pro nor contra FTB or Tekkit
Someone earlier said Gregtech was a point to FTB. I felt his point needed to be destroyed
At pax or whatever that was called...they even hold a live contest there, where hundreds participated and some of the people even won real prizes
Was that released to the public or just a special once off thing? Cause I sure haven't seen any updates to the map since
And did a lot of copyright infractions, earned money from advertising, didn't provide correct links or none at all and even said publicly that they don't care about the copyrights before they changed their opinions and now are a legit modpack
People only complained about the "copyrights", I use in inverted commas because we are literately talking about mods made for a video game and any other modding community would be laughing its head off now, because they weren't getting their adf.ly revenue. And as soon as the donations page went up, suddenly a lot of the heat dropped off. Why? Because the modders received donations by the truckload
I was around when this happened. I remember watching the drama die off literately one day because their donations filled up faster than adf.ly ever did
Tekkit started as a private modpack. They didn't expect people to care as much as they did. Remember, this thing came out before all the rest
Nope, Both packs are pretty even imho...
Pretty much, but there are a lot more FTB fans out there who have some fake views on Tekkit that result in me needing to squash their views

Tekkit = Absolutely old it has served us well but when I realised that it doesn't have permission I went to FTB
I'm running a Tekkit server and shortly after making this post I will have updated it 3 times in 3 days. Unless certain FTB packs are getting multiple updates per day (which would be excessive and problematic for server admins) I don't think you know what you're talking about.
Some people ITT need to learn the difference between Tekkit and Tekkit Classic.
But that would require people to actually think about their choices rather than parrot what they heard someone else said!

Well, I use FTB and Tekkit both, as of right now i am using tekkit because of the updates, That is the big thing about tekkit it is pretty community run with the make your own pack feature, Tekkit is 100% legal. What happened was the owner designed tekkit as kind of a private mod pack for him and his friends so he saw no need to get permissions for a small pack probole only going to be used by maybe 12 or so people, but the yogscast found it and thought it was pretty awesome, cue 750,000 subscibers racing to download it. Then it became a problem, also since the tekkit site got permissions, the modder of Modular powersuits said that she has gotten more money from the tekkit site links then any other link she has. Now i am not dissing FTB far from it, I love FTB and have played the pack to death and back again, but dont hate on tekkit because once upon a time, It didnt get permissions from a what they thought small pack. Also when was the last update for FTB when it comes to more packs. And for the IC2 problem, I am very disapointed in its removal but I think it is a great oportunity to learn about build craft. So my advice? PLAY THE ONE THAT YOU LIKE FOR CONTENT NOT SOME PRE-HISTORIC HICUP!
FTB is a lot harder, in tekkit, I could in about 2 hours of gameplay get an EE energy collector for a diamond generated every second or faster. FTB has not got EE or other overpowered mods and many of the mods actually make the game harder.
Hey hey hey hey buddy, did you know energy collectors aren't in ANY current modpack due to EE2 not being updated?
No?
Then get current info before spewing more crap the hole you call a mouth.
FTB actually does use Minefactory in the Ultimate pack
And tekkit cant use Gregtech because they never asked for Permission, and since Kakermix tried to put it in Tekkit Greg immediately made the mod not load when used in tekkit, so it cant be used until kakermix asks for Permission, which will never happen.
And Tedium? Lol... I actually play with Greg on a server, and im constantly asking for more nerfs cause the game is still too easy.
What does it nerf? Macerators? Daimond drills? Quarries? 'bout it.
What does it add? Plutonium, Fusion reactors, Cloaking Devices, ect
Hey look, MORE proof the FTB supporters in these threads have no idea what they're talking about! Keep it up guys, maybe someday you won't get corrected and some idiots will blindly believe you, or you could try learning anything!
Also yes, Tedium. It makes everything take longer for no benefit. At all.
Here's another difference for anyone reading. FTB fans tend to be full of on anything Technic related, not all, just most who for some reason don't know that it isn't on 1.2.5, isn't using old mods no longer updated, or other crap like what the guy above is spewing.
To any FTB supporters with a brain, if you avoid these threads to avoid the know lessthennothings, I don't blame you.
Have you played the new Tekkit? One sentence: It doesn't have industrialcraft.
I'm not a fanboy and don't really care which is the more popular pack one way or the other but Tekkit 1.0.5 is currently leaps and bounds more challenging than any FTB pack since energy production and usage is a constant concern, even in endgame.
I appreciate what both groups are doing, but ill informed opinions being propagated on the internet can go a long way to damaging the public image of a project, and Tekkit doesn't deserve this now, it's become a very balanced and challenging modpack.
You really haven't seen Gregtech then if you think that's all it is.
Hey look, MORE proof the FTB supporters in these threads have no idea what they're talking about! Keep it up guys, maybe someday you won't get corrected and some idiots will blindly believe you, or you could try learning anything!

At least with Gregtech you don't drown in resources and actually use your energy for something.
Anyway I prefer FTB Ultimate to the current Tekkit due to the fact it's stayed back in 1.4.7, 1.5 was a major update changing how things are rendered making the mods quite buggier and less stable than previous versions.
The big decider for me is Thaumcraft, Forestry and Redpower, as they are probably my favorite mods.
I couldn't live without those mods. Pretty marble...
Tekkit (not classic or lite, the new one) pros
+galactcraft (or whatever it's called)
+updated to 1.5
I don't even want to touch the new tekkit without IC2. Just my opinion.
Anyway, which idiot said minefactory wasn't in ftb? It's in the ultimate pack. I don't use it, though.
Tekkit IS legal. It didn't used to be legal though, as it used many mods without permission.
Anyway, I didn't do much research, so please correct any incorrect facts.
Overall, I use ftb.
Edit: I haven't found many bugs in ftb. Just putting that out there, ftb isn't a bug-filled modpack.
Another edit: I suppose I can't count greg tech as a pro when tekkit doesn't even have IC2 and couldn't have greg's mod without it. At least we aren't arguing over greg tech being good or bad, as people have lots of stuff to say about that.
And also, I admit it, I'm a ftb fanboy. I love ftb a lot.
And saying there is a lot of ftb fanboys just makes tekkit look worse. A fanboy is someone who likes something a lot, a bit too much. It's basically saying ftb has tons of fans, saying that everyone who plays ftb is a fanboy.
Each line is an edit : I forgot about forestry and thaumcraft! Silly me! Adding that to the list.
Fanboy:
a person obsessed with an element of video orelectronic culture, such as a game, sci-fi movie, comic or animé, music, etc; a person obsessed with any other single subject or hobby
^Taken from a dictionary website.
Just to make it clear, a fanboy is someone who is obsessed heavily with something. Like I said, saying there are tons of ftb fanboys is saying there are tons of heavy obsessed fans. Your welcome.
FTB is supposed to be centered around a map. When did the last one of those come out?
Tekkit launched the entire modpack craze
Ftb isn't focused on it's map. It used to be, but it no longer is. Anyhow, they did make a new map a while back, for paxs east I believe.
I was going to say something else but I forgot what it was. Brb if I remember.
Edit: Oh yeah! Most youtubers use ftb over tekkit.
Yogscast switched, and mindcrack made a new server. Although, yogscast switched from tekkit classic to yogcraft, in the ftb launcher.
Also, more people use ftb. That means more servers. Counts as a pro.
How do you know more people use FTB? I'm pretty sure you don't have access to the login count of both the Technic Launcher and FTB.
It's pretty obvious. I see way less talk about Tekkit, and more talk about feed the beast on the forum I go on. When someone opens a ftb server, about 25-40 try to apply for it (I'm assuming it's whitelisted, otherwise there could be greifers). When I see a tekkit server open, which is less common, about 3-25 people apply.
And anyhow, if I'm incorrect, feed the beast is growing at a faster rate thanks to youtubers like Yogscast (they switched to yogcraft, which is found in the FTB launcher), the mindcracks (Etho, BdoubleO, pauseunpause, etc. Shame on you if you haven't heard of them), Direwolf, and possible Captain Sparkles in the future (He said he would do aether 2 as season III, and study FTB during it a bit, and maybe do it for season IV). Also I think Toby did FTB, but I don't watch too many of videos.
Depends on which forums you hang out on. Of course you're going to see more FTB players on the FTB forums. Tekkit players don't have a very large presence on the Minecraft Forums because of all the Technic hate a year ago.
And IIRC, Voltz hit a million downloads a few days after it was launched.
Until you have access to the actual statistics, you can not rightfully say that one modpack has more players than the other.
I actually don't have an account on the FTB forums. I'm not too active on this forum either.
And just to make it clear, Ampz and voltz ARE the same things, neither mod pack has an advantage by having UE (I'm going to refer it like that to avoid confusion) as the are in both launchers. Voltz isn't only a Tekkit thing, and Ampz isn't only a FTB thing. I hate it when people think their different (although I think you know).
Yeah, I might not have the stats, but I still think FTB has more active players (someone might of downloaded FTB or Tekkit and not of ran the jar file, or used it only once). Maybe I should spend more time on other forums. Idk.
And congrades on 1000 posts, also.
Edit: Who the hell said Minefactory reloaded could replace redpower? Who are you kidding? I see a few things lacking, like volcanoes (at least, I see none in the wiki), micro blocks, Blutricty, flax, logic gates and a lot of cool other machines.
