Hey guys CooperallTutorials here and I am starting a contest on who can create the best modpack for me to play. Whoever wins will see their modpack be played on my channel in a survival series. Good luck!
I know, and also, you know how much trouble that would present to contestants, because of copyright infringement and issue, EACH contestant has to get permission for EACH mod from EVERY mod author. I had to do that for even a private modpack just for a server of THREE. So yea.
And you can't say that modpack X is the best, since they are a COLLECTION of mods. Without getting permission from EACH and EVERY mod author related to the mods, it is illegal to distribute the modpack, listing the mods to get is ok, but otherwise, its a no without permission.
And why don't you just download every single mod and install it, you can't just say that modpack X is better than modpack Y and Z, they will probably have the same mods

Actually the trouble you mention is nothing, since they can't go to court over it, due to no money being involved.
Also NO ONE gives a damn about a mod pack used only for a small private server, no one cared about Technic when it was a small semiprivate pack.
Permission is required to reuse the Resources (art, music, etc) that are present within XyCraft; however, a special exception where permission is granted if used to graphically enhance or improve XyCraft and only XyCraft.
My permission is required: re-distribute this content regardless of any modifications used [See "Current Modpack/ Server Permissions Below"]
Permission is granted to: Write reviews with Screen-shots as well as make videos using this content so long as you give credits and link to the XyCraft Thread.
Permission is required to de-compile my code. Some code will be Opensourced later, but not alot
Current Modpack/Server Permissions: ONLYFeed The Beast has my permission to redistribute XyCraft at this time. For now that is the one and only mod pack that has that permission until future notice. (Feed The Beast as in FTB) Asking me currently changes nothing, the Answer is no until I get better situated.
I doubt that you are part of the Feed The Beast team, so therefore, XyCraft can't be redistributed unless you ask for permission, and if granted, show solid screenshot proof. But then again: the Answer is no until I get better situated.
So if soaryn stumbles upon a modpack with his mod in it.........................
Not if you do what I do. I set people up with their own super-private modpacks, only for their use. Links are completely private. They are basically contracting for my services in installing the mod. It is as if I was at their computer installing the mods for them.
If you see a modpack designed by me floating around the internet, I certainly didn't put it there XD.
I could send you a modpack, but I'm not the greatest at picking them out. If you need a specific pack built, PM me.
Honestly the creators of the Technic pack didn't have to get permission they did it to stay on the good side of the modders. The copyrights don't mean anything that's why not many people with custom mod packs on Technic Platform and other places care so much including myself. It's respect that makes the mod pack makers get permission not the "copyright".
Note: I'm not trying to encourage not getting permission
Actually if you read the thread you would notice that was addressed. They can't take legal action besides one that only stops it for a few days, maybe a week or 2 at most, before just going away when they notice they haven't gotten any proof the copyright exists besides the modder saying it does.
The OTHER action they could take requires that the modder had made money off it. Which opens THEM up to lawsuits from Mojang.
Now please, I know this might be hard for you since you just parrot crap blindly without knowing how it works, READ THE DAMN THREAD BEFORE POSTING.

Nevan, unfortunately there exists a small, annoying, and very vocal minority in every gaming community who insist on dictating international law to us from the security of their cozy armchairs. The dismal part about the minecraft community, is that some prominent mod authors actually condone this behavior.

Well mod authors would certainly care if you break their rules/ToC.
Also, the technic pack HAD permission...

Not true. And this has been canceled.
They can a DMCA takedown which have never actually be successful for more then about a week.
Beyond that without monetary damages, which would open them up to a lawsuit from Mojang, they can't do ANYTHING.
So the options a modder has are be a **** and mildly inconvenience someone for a few days and nothing.

You need permission from one of the authors...
Now find the part where he can enforce that in a way that isn't just wasting everyone's time.
You can't? Then shut it.
