Well, for me adfly is not just an annoying website. IT'S ALSO A MALWARE!!! I've encountered so many auto download when I download a mcpe mod/map and I redirected to adfly. Maybe you guys say that's normal or anything. But a website has no right to force their visitor to download something they don't want. Adfly also trying to scam me by showing virus/malware alert and when I checked my storage and use so many anti virus, I found no virus/malware. If adfly keep using these stuff (auto download and fake alert) it will fill your device memory until you got overload!!!

A. I have never encountered an auto-download ad on AdFly.
B. AdFly isn't the ones who run the ads, blame the people who own the ads for misleading ads.
C. Your device won't overload even if the ads auto-download a file.
D. Chrome / Firefox + AdBlock. Simple.

For starters, AdFly doesn't trick people into installing malware, if a user gets malware from an ad, it's on them
Oh real good let's victim blame people who get taken in by misleading ads. You are talking out your butt if you think that site isn't absolutely loaded with ads made to look as though they were the actual download.
Yeah there's the "skip" button, but it's pretty much the smallest element on the screen, and people do miss it. that's how the site makes its money. If you want to get technical, it's how the people serving the ads make their money, and its them who pay adf.ly, so it's the same thing in the end.
If the absolute pittance you make from putting a download behind adf.ly is worth having people (and not just any people - fans of your mods!) tricked into downloading junk (and if you can make yourself feel better about it by victim blaming), well that's exactly why I think anyone who uses it is scummy.
You might not like to admit it, but if you send someone to a site full of ads designed to mislead them and they get mislead, it's your fault, not theirs. Not being good at internet is not a moral failing. It doesn't make someone "deserve" getting crapware. You, the one who are so obviously good at internet ("D. Chrome / Firefox + AdBlock. Simple"), bear the responsibility for the situation you knowingly send them into

The site has a countdown up in the top right for starters, the human eye is designed to detect motion so the moment something changes your attention gets drawn to the top right to a countdown, the user can simply work out that it's counting down so let's wait. 5 seconds pass, Skip button appears. It doesn't matter how big or small something is, motion always takes precedence over static imagery when it comes to salience.
I'm not going to deny that what happens isn't bad, it is scummy to mislead users, but every site does it, so why is AdFly the only site that's getting hated on? If anything, AdFly is the least wrongful, as it includes a salient element which pulls the users attention back to the actual link they need to click. Youtube, Facebook, Google, Reddit, even the forums rely on advertising in order to make a revenue, it's the way the internet thrives at a financial level. What I will deny is that it is 100% the fault of the author if a user gets mislead. If you want to speak in that logic, blame the author for putting the mod on this site, a site that uses third-party advertisements that also mislead people. The fault is partially on all parties involved, including the user for not recognising the big ticking number in the top right (which, again, is the most salient thing on AdFly).
The problem is AdFly is not in control over the ads they show, the ad-space is open for anyone to use, just like how these forums work and just like how any website works. Let's move this away from the forums, Minecraft and AdFly. If your friend got tricked into download malware from an ad on Facebook claiming "See what <insert any name of your friends here> is doing.", would Facebook up and take the blame? No, they wouldn't, at least not the whole blame. Part of the blame would be on Facebook for letting third-party companies go wild, part of the blame would be on the party involved for putting a misleading advertisement that uses Facebook information for adverts, and part of the blame would be on the friend for not recognising that the thing they clicked was an ad.
AdFly and the author are no more to blame than the user in the grand scheme of things, AdFly doesn't intentionally add ads that mislead users, they give third-party companies and sites access to free advert space on the site. The author is just wanting some money from the hobby. And the poor old user got caught up in it, right? Kind of, they did, but that part of the countdown being the most salient part comes in, so the user is at blame in my own opinion. Besides, most people who have AdFly links also have a direct link for those who are paranoid, so why didn't the user use the direct link? If you want someone to blame, blame whoever actually ran the ad, but everyone is partially to blame, including the user.

Anyone who isn't using Ad-block on chrome just doesn't know how to internet properly. Adfly links are fine i get a nice white screen with the top bar and 3 second wait for the download. No ads no virus... Get ad-block it makes the internet useful again. It is WONDERFUL for YouTube no more 30 second video ads every time i want to watch something. I honestly don't know how anyone can browse the internet with out it, the way ads have taken over just about every website.

My 2¢ ... Adf.ly is garbage. If you want income from your hard work developing mods, I say put up a donate button.
Adf.ly is a scam, no two ways about it. To quote just a couple of people in this forum ...
"... there is a 0% chance of harm unless you click the ad."
"... The only way that I've seen for Adf.ly to download viruses ... is if the person who is trying to download ... clicks something in the advertisement."
(Emphasis mine.) To defend Adf.ly's practices is like saying, "It's OK; I don't take the drugs, I just sell them."
At this very moment, I have open three Adf.ly windows - two of which opened auto-magically after I chose to download a resource pack. These two windows are 1) pop-behind windows - yeah; because pop-behinds are always legitimate, and 2) making false claims. One fakes a Windows BSoD and tells me to call Microsoft, providing a bogus phone number. The other is faking an IE status window telling me my browser is out of date and urges me to "click here" to update it. Both are BS because I'm on a Mac.
So yeah, Adf.ly is a total scam. If you have content you want me to download - a mod, a resource pack, etc. - and you provide a non-Adf.ly link - I'll use that 100% of the time. (And if you include a "donate" option, I'll often donate!) But if you do choose to use Adf.ly, I always think twice and I'll most likely decide to forego whatever you're offering ... yes, simply because you use Adf.ly and it's not worth the risk or irritation.
Popular mod creators gets ~3$ a day
