My favorite Minecraft LPer is Ethoslab ( http://www.youtube.c...b?feature=watch ) and he has started a new Feed the Beast series that I am quite interested in. It got me motivated into looking for a mod pack. I tried to play Technic in the past but my old computer could not handle it. My new computer will be able to handle anything with flying colors. I have been doing a little comparing and contrasting but i cannot come up with a solid answer. I'm looking for something that will have nothing that is too OP and doesn't dramatically change how you play Minecraft like something like Adventure Craft would do (yes i know that is a whole different thing).
Well both mod packs have Equivelent Exchange which is so OP it will make your head swim. Basically just in case you don't know what it is, it allows you turn stuff into other stuff, turning useless, abundant (renewable) stuff into something like a diamond.
So either one you go with will be OP, but of course you can just ignore EE, I don't think it is necessary.
I would suggest using feed the beast since you watch Etho play it, that way you could watch his videos to learn how to play, not like you couldn't figure out technic by watching his videos, they are like, the same thing.
OH and BTW, technic just uses the mods without the mod makers permissions, feed the beast actually gets permission, so it is nicer to the mod makers to use feed the beast.

In my opinion, you should compile a modpack yourself for your personal use, because I wouldn't support either. But I'll say Technic, because it's the lesser of the two evils.
Feed the Beast. From what I've seen, it does a better job at balancing the survival and industrial aspects. Plus, it only picks cool mods w/ open permission.
Jus frowin dat out daer.
We know tekkit didn't get permissions. However, some activity by the FTB team seems immature and hostile. Such as slowpoke's insulting of the creator of technic/tekkit on the technic pack forms. I prefer tekkit, but FTB is of similar quality. It more so has to do with your trust and respect for the creators.
Let's all keep this civil here. Do NOT talk about permissions here. We are simply advising the OP on which to use based on their content. Technic has more a informal, more classic Minecraft feel, while Feed the Beast has a more "It's a whole new game" kind of feeling to it.
Feed the Beast VS Technic, so here is my take on them both.
Feed The Beast.
Started out as a map, then turned into a modpack, finally unto a launcher (for a full history please refer to this link http://feed-the-beast.com/media.php)
Pros:
Great modder relations
11 pack to pick from
easy server set up
Easy to use an fluid+ launcher can be easly customized
Private pack support
Easy texture pack support for certain modpack
Built in Map download
Easy bug find+ crash reporter Via the 2nd window (Console)
Active forums
Cons:
Well at this time i can't think of any due to the fact that it is to new for any real problems to surface during my experience of it
Technic
From what i know of it, it started out being a modpack that you downloaded then installed then turned into a launcher (dont know the full history though)
Pros:
Larger selection of mine craft version to pick from
7 packs to pick from
Large community of servers+ forums
Has direct links to donate to modders
Private pack support
Cons:
Rather interesting modder relations
Comparing to Feed the Beast launcher not as customization
My Conclusion
Both are essentially launchers that provide for you a one click solution to easily download mods, based on your need i would go with Feed the Beast since it has a built in ability to disable mods that may change the game play too much for you. What i use is the DireWolf20 pack exported to MultiMC to allow me to have more options and easy block ID resolver when I add new mods.
Both of them are almost exclusively tech mods where the main goal has shifted from exploring, fighting and building to standing inside of a box where crafting various super furnaces with the eventual goal being to automate your super furnace crafting. You are much better off putting together your own pack rather than be limited to that particular genre.
Tekkit is for people who are looking for an easy modpack to play. FTB on the other hand, is much more of a challenge for previous tekkit players. I have a multiple friends who previously played tekkit and they are struggling without condensers and yet they are amazed at the bigger amount of pack launchers and mods in FTB. I previously played tekkit, got bored and went over to FTB. It was a much bigger challenge and a whole iron tank of fun. ;D
Uh, no it hasn't. Tekkit sort of paved the way for FTB
Anywho, Technic lets you make your own easy to make custom modpacks. FTB needs you have to go talk to people to make them. So I use custom Technic packs because its easier to have exactly what I want

The Emperor's Rage echoes through the hills. The Emperor's Strength grips this land with fists of iron. The Emperor's Courage burns everlasting. The Endless Army will crush the Emperor's foes.

Because the FTB people actually wait for permission to use mods, and support the mod makers.

I use FTB just because it has a bit more mods. The launcher is easier to use. Doesn't take up my Disk C, while you'll have to use batch files to make the Technic Launcher run on D or E or any other disks. Meanwhile, Technic had been around for longer and they support custom packs.

You do realize the Technic launcher lets you move where its installed right?
EE2 that ships with Tekkit is OP, but it easy to play and use it in ways that are not, however EE3 that ships with FTB has little in common with EE2 except a name and some items with the same names, the code, the functionality and the balancing are totally re-worked and new and fits in much better with the general balance of the whole modded game.
Ahem,. Tekkit Lite, the one they keep up to date, uses EE3, stop referring to Tekkit Classic like its the only one.

I would love to see a discussion weather is better and what the differences between the two are.

BACK ON TOPIC...
Whichever modpack you are more interested in will be the one for you.
Tbh, feed the beast.
FTB has been around longer than tekkit.
