The creator did not stop. Where did you get that information? The 1.4.5 release is due in a few weeks or less*
From what I can tell, when a mod author puts code to prevent the mod being used without permission in tekkit, the tekkit creators and their followers pretend the mod author "stopped working on it". To my understanding the creator of redpower didn't want their mod in tekkit to begin with (not 100% on this) but, like the other mods they use without permission, the authors didn't care until, like the forestry mod, special code was added to prevent the mod being used with the pack. (I know this is the case for the forestry mod, but not as certain if it's the case for redpower)

Ooh, smart coders they are! I don't get what all the hype was about Tekkit. I've never watched, and never plan to, Yogscast, so maybe that's why. The launcher looked unprofessional and had bugs of its own. It's also extremely slow to update.
I also lol extra loud for those who say RP2 / EE3 isn't in FTB, because if they bothered to read up on FTB at all, they would know these mods will come when they come.
Because for some people it's a point of contention.
if I go and take every mod and put them together myself its fine
Of course it is. That's how you should do it.
what if i want to share that with my friend who wants to play it to but doesnt know how to put them together
Give them instructions? Seriously? You aren't going to make an entire mod pack just for one friend. Mod packs are designed t be distributed, and the fact of the matter is that as the owner of the copyright over the mod content, the mod authors have control over who distributes the mod. That's all there is to it.
At what point do you draw the line
The creation of a mod pack designed for public consumption?
tekkit makes no money off of using the mod they use they just provide a free service to people wanting to play modded minecraft together but have no idea how to put mods together.
Except tekkit is essentially "publishing" the mods. Whether there is money involved is completely redundant.

Well, to my understanding, a lot of this permissions stuff started with that "Yogbox" mod; the Yogscast clowns decided to pack up a bunch of Minecraft mods, and being of course huge celebrities, they decided to not ask permission initially, only doing so almost begrudgingly. The entire time they acted like they were doing the mod authors a favour, rather than the other way around. This was particularly important; think about it. So many of the mods in tekkit are identified as "tekkit"; only the more advanced players really differentiate between what is in the different mods. And with the YogBox, those mods were being identified as "Yogscast"; a good example of this is the fact that their forum as well as the various youtube videos posted early on about that mod made suggestions about the mod content themselves and basically patted them on the back for the content itself, rather than recognizing that they were only distributing the mods. Fact is that they said themselves "If a mod author doesn't want it in the pack, they should let us know" As if they have an explicit right to distribution just by being youtube "celebrities", which is simply not how it works. And then they acted surprised when some of the larger mod makers wanted their mods out of the pack; they fought with them a lot, and often kept it in the pack "just in case" the mod author changed their minds. Same story for a lot of tekkit mods; When the mod authors have to take explicit action to prevent unauthorized redistribution of their work, you know something has gone tits up.
FTB has the modder's consent to distribute the mods. The only reason it doesn't have redpower is it isn't out for 1.4.2 yet. Don't blame Eloram. You try doing it. She's a GENIUS!

lets see second the above post Eloraam is pure genius, and FTB is better for the above stated reason as well in my opinion
I don't know anything about either, but having the backing of the mod makers is an automatic win for Feed the Beast, and it's even better that they want to actually keep up with newer versions of Minecraft.

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
Load up the Classic FTB Modpack designed for the pyramid skyblock challenge, and make your own world there.
Voila - Minecraft 1.2.5 with EE2 and RP2 and a lot of other stuff.
This alone should be enough reason to like FTB, not only does it have modder's consent and support, it actually gives you the choice to use the old 1.2.5 version which clearly has EE and RP.
Not to mention that you can add in other mods and mix around with them with just a couple of clicks with the mouse. The launcher makes it all easier for you so if you're missing a particular mod, you can always simply add it.
FTB Modpack, as it is supported by all the mod makers, is legal, isn't as glitchy as tekkit and is in 1.4.* (And the mods get constantly updates, unlike tekkit where the mods stay at that version forever)
In terms of tekkit players vs FTB players, (excluding whiny kids/noobs) both want the same thing in the end: to play a modpack that has epic mods that install everything for you. But what I don't like is creators of tekkit who distribute mods without asking.
I like how FTB is on 1.4.2/1.4.5 and it has forestry/smp Thaumcraft (some of my fav mods). Yeah, tekkit has red power and (in my opinion) OP EE2, but RP2 is very close to release for 1.4.5 (slowpoke's stream).
i like feed the beast for many reasons; One becuase it has Mystcraft (or whatever) in it, it also is better for getting and using power as in it is easier and you have more variety. so yeah
I am playing Tekkit atm until all the mods are ready for FTB. I think I will stick solely with FTB once RP2 is added for the simple fact, that every mod maker in there is on the Pahicraft server together. They all are working together and playing together. The compatibility of all the mod items will be a non issue since all of them are actually playing together and when something doesn't work, they are all their to fix it. I think this will be the 1st major modpack that has 100% support of the mod authors, not as individuals, but as a cohesive group. If you have been watching Direwolf20's newest SMP lets play, you will constantly see the bugs between mods that pop up and how they work together to fix them. Not only does each author have their own skills, but they have the collective brain power, coding, and design as a group which will make each and every mod better. I am looking forward to having no compatibility issues and probably the least bugs ever in a mod because of this.
I honestly believe with all the mod author support and the love of the Minecraft community will make FTB the model for future mod packs.
