This is a thread based off another back in 2011. He came up with an idea for Minecraft to be as realistic as possible without ruining the game.
Some of the ideas include:
-90 day season cycles, with days longer in summer (13 min) and nights being only 7 mins. Days would be opposite in winter, with 7 mins of daylight and 13 mins of night.
-Water levels also change throughout the year. They are 1 block lower in summer until a summer rainstorm, which restores it. In winter, water levels stay the same.
-Leaves can fall and change colors in autumn. This creates the use for a rake, which clears the leaves. In winter, the trees stay as bare logs. In spring, the leaves grow back to their bright green color, maintaining this color until autumn again.
-A beard can grow on you character, creating the use for a razor.
-Water must be drunk at least once a day, or the hearts on a character will deplete once every minute.
-In winter, the water freezes over into ice, being thicker at the shore and thinner; thin enough to break when stepped on, in the middle of bodies of water.
That is the beginning of what we came up with totally, when the whole thread was dropped suddenly.
Please reply with some ideas.
I think this a great idea and if you get hurt or damaged it affects the long term not just the short term as in if you break your leg you can't move around as easy you would need to build say a splint or a clutch to move around splint crafted with 3 sticks diagonally and it would make 2 or for clutches is

or change iron for sticks I don't know that's my thoughts what do you think?
Sounds great! Just think of anything in real life that you could make and find in a land all on your own.
Sticks or iron ingots could be used, it's just that the wood ones would break more easily, while iron could last much longer.
If the leg is not set properly or the crutch isn't worn, the character will walk with a limp and cannot sprint.
Also, in winter, anything with iron can become slippery or jammed because of ice.
Ex. Carts would go further when just coasting if it snowed. Doors might not open as easily because of ice.
When iron things are left out in the rain, they rust.
Ex. Carts would go slower and even stop at times. Doors would have to be oiled* or replaced.
*Oil can be found in certain weeds and can be taken when animals are cooked.

another great idea I wish that some one would do this if anyone does I can texture the items
some other ideas of mine are
if you eat any type of raw meat it should have at least a 70% chance of causing sickness not the hunger stuff
also if you get hit with a arrow your life gets taken away and until you take out the arrow your hearts won't regenerate or if you get hit by any mob you have a chance of bleeding and would need to be bandaged along the same note if you run out of blood you die it should also show how much blood you have
in the summer you
*loose hunger and thirst faster when out side
thats all I can think of what do you think?
Maybe if you eat a lot of cake or cookies you get slower and it takes more food to fill your food bar, while if you eat things like meat or lettuce (a new crop might be added) your attacks get harder and you mine, woodcut, shovel and attack more effeciently, and you dont need as much food to fill your health bar. Also, in the winter if you're not wearing any armor you start getting hypothermia and your health depletes at a rate. (Leather armor would be preferable in this case, with metals like iron and gold making it worse, and diamond armor doing little to help.) There could also be another feature where fallen leaves are a block, and they act like a normal leaf block only they're orange, you can run through them, and you need a rake tool to get rid of them (crafting recipe below)

Also, hitting rough blocks like stone, cobblestone etc. can hurt you at a rate of 1/2 heart per 2 seconds. Maybe also when you break a leave on a tree it will drop a stick. Also, digging below bedrock will not lead to the void, but it will lead to a much denser rock layer. (Bedrock in this case would be able to break through with TNT, a creeper, or a ghast shot.) Ores would also spawn up a little bit more frequently below bedrock, but at a certain point the bottom layer is reached, and instead of the void there could be a kind of like a really hot lava that starts hurting you from a distance of 20 blocks away at a rate of 1 heart per 2 seconds, and that rate goes up as you approach it. It also would kill you on touch.
Another idea would be kind of like an air pressure thing, example: The deeper you mine, the faster your food bar disappears and the slower your working rate is. Also you would take lots more damage when attacked. Hyperventilating (explaned in the next paragraph) in a space closed off from the outside oxygen would decrease the pressure at a slow rate, and underwater, as well as in the air you gain or lose pressure, which can be fixed by equalizing yourself which takes longer depending on whether you're losing or gaining pressure, and how fast your rate of change in pressure is. In extreme conditions of low and high pressure however, you may start getting the bubbles you get underwater on your HUD that mean you're running out of air, but this can be fixed by carrying with you a pressure stabiliser that would act as an armor piece for chest, and would give you a sort of Darth Vader breathing tone, but you would not have any troubl
Hyperventilating could be used to hold your breath for longer periods of time underwater, and could be done with the (changeable) button [h]. For maximum breath holding time you could hyperventilate for 60 seconds, and would triple your breath holding time. Also, not moving in the water would cause you to lose air less quickly, while swimming around would. Another thing with water would be that you actually float to the top, but you kind of do the "dead man's float" if you don't press [space] to start treading water and get your head above to the air.
This is a really good mod idea and I hope it gets published!Sorry for the extremely long post I got a little carried away...
And extreme weather, like the tornado mod! I was under the impression if you collected a bunch of mods together you could make it real...with tornado mod, seasons mod, extra biomes mod, RPG mod, and if you get lonely, have Millenaire! And if you get annoyed, get Flan's mod with tanks and guns and airplanes to destroy!
Well, with the air pressure thing, there could be canaries... This is actually what miners did. They'd bring a bird (usually a canary) and while they mine, have it in a cage next to them. When the canary died, that means there was little or no air to breathe, so they had to turn back. Maybe there would be C02 over lava so you need a gasmask. I wouldn't add stuff like guns and tanks in there. I'm making a card game where you conquer and destroy the other player's territory, but the most advanced weapon is a pistol from 1911. If there would be mods in this, it would be up the revolver for guns, then thats it. The weather Idea is great.
The underwater idea would need to be a helmet with air tanks on the chestplate.
There is a mod called Minecraft comes alive and it is a great mod. It is where you can talk to and interact with villagers. You can also marry and have kids. Look it up, as it would have a great place in this mod.

Trees continue growing for a full year, at a rate of one block every 30 days.
When cut, the trees would fall sideways, allowing you to cut it into logs while it is sideways.
I just have one thing to say, about the original post.
Minecraft days last 20 minutes, HOWEVER days last 12 minutes, nights last 7 minutes, and the transition between both are 30 seconds each, so night is already 7 minutes, so maybe switching it to be even in spring and fall?
Sounds like a good idea.
An idea for the beds...
If you had a ton of, say, cookies or cake or anything like that, it would be harder to fall asleep and get back up again in the morning. When you woke up you would walk as slow as you would when you sneak until you had an apple or other crop.
The Other crops include:
Corn, Lettuce, Tomatoes, etc.
These could add flavour to meals, increasing the amount of hunger bar they can get back.
This would also create the use for recipies, like aged milk (Cheese), bread, and tomatoes could be pizza, which would gain four hunger.
Corn and bread would be cornbread, which is a great snack when your hunger bar is low, regaining two hunger.
You can die of hypothermia if you go out in a snowy biome or in the snow without a coat:

It's the same crafting recipe as a chestplate.
If you go out without a coat, your screen may start to vibrate, indicating your character is shivering(?)
You can also die of the opposite: Hyperthermia. This happens when you are in a desert biome, near lava too long. This mewans you must jump into or drink water from a bottle. Either way is just as effective. When you get too hot, there may be an obvious sign, such as going a bit slower or you can hear your character breathing heavily. This should make it clear you need to find water, and fast.
When it snows, you should have snowshoes, which make your speed normal when walking. IF you don't have these snowshoes, you walk a little bit slower.

You can also create a lantern, to help you see at night and also in a heavy snowstorm. It is basically a torch that is powered by oil, which can be obtained from cooking meat. When you equip the lantern and right click, there will be a screen that shows your character and to the left of it there is a meter with oil. (Almost like a furnace) You put the oil in and every piece of oil gives ten minutes of light. Lanterns can also be placed on a block, giving off light until the oil is used up or removed. Lanterns can also be hung from a hook. These are more for decoration or storage of the lantern.
