I would like this as well. I use server mods (Industrialcraft, Buildcraft, Redpower, etc.) and they do not work with bukkit. I would hope someone can make a mod as simple as Timber for SMP.

there is a plugin call choptree its just like the timber mod but in SMP

im in the same situation with you. Industrial craft and all i can find is bukkit crap. If there were an smp version for timberrrrrr! and mo creatures that DIDN'T rely on bukkit i would be so happy
