That's not a very nice way to talk to this idiot. Be polite and tell him to GTFO of the forums.
I would prefer if you would stop breathing, if possible in a way causing you displeasure.
Better?
Yeah that works, thanks for helping to clear things up. Carry on with your day good sir.

Dude, pirating for keeps is stealing. If you're demoing it I can kinda understand. But, else wise, GTFO and get some cash lazy.
Although I agree Piracy is a bad thing it is technically not stealing.

I have not stolen the but rather made a copy of it. I still believe that Piracy is wrong. I have purchased my far share of games and now am at over 120 games on steam alone. Also I <3 minecraft so much I bought 5 copies so far.
Piracy is still stealing, digital media works differently from physical things.
Copying a movie then selling it/giving it away in a shop down the street will get you arrested most likely. Internet is just a hard place to enforce rules on.

He is right its not technically stealing, its still wrong, but its not stealing. And there is always the question of whether or not the pirate would have payed for the game anyway, so you can't even say pirates are stealing sales away.
The way I think that most people thinks it works is:
I stole the game
How it actually is:
I stole the developers money.
So your still stealing, but your not stealing the actual gamedata

Let's see. Average cost of employees, 30 dollars an hour. Total man hours accumulated (This is hours from all employees) Probably about 1,000. Heck, 10,000 if we want to go extreme. That's $300,000 spent in labor. Take the cost of commercial licensing if they're not making their own programs, APIs, resources, the cost of electricity and business, probably another $100,000 during the actual time of making the program.
How much actually spent "Making" the program? As in how much did it cost to manufacture and duplicate? Cost of internet, Cost of program, Cost of computer, Cost of electricity, and other misc things. $5000 AT MOST. That's not counting an entire office of people, just what it takes to make it.
ok, so it cost them $400,000 just to have a generous number up there. It's probably much less than that, but this is the extreme high-end game that takes 10,000 man hours to make.
You spent that much making a program or game. So, you put it up for market. Say it costs $30 for the program. Low, isn't it? Alright then. Say if it's awesome and everyone wants it. Say even if a low amount of 100,000 people buy it. Yep. $3,000,000. Almost 10 times the amount it took to make it, and the sales and profits will only go up from there. Take into account all the updates and customer service and you still have a few million left over.
In my opinion, the internet business is really a corrupt business. Just look at notch. He became a multi-millionaire from an indie game. FROM AN INDIE GAME. God knows it didn't cost notch $10,000,000 to make the game. After the program or game is done, you can just leave it be and make a profit for the rest of your life, provided it is still up for sale.
Seriously now. Piracy. Is it wrong? It's up to you. I won't say my opinion on it. I am stating facts here. My post isn't about if piracy is right or wrong (But I really do make it look not wrong), it's about how much these companies really are cheating you out of your money for a program that cost them virtually nothing to make.
------
So.. Really now, I'm not against buying the programs. It shows a lot of your support and is encouraging. You're not "Stealing" anything really, you're just shunning them away saying "Thanks for the program, who else made something worth while?". My statistics are based on averages here. If not for the 100,000 people that buy the products, my statistic would be incorrect and everything would be alright, but the sad truth is that it isn't incorrect. It's actually really understated.

Unfortunately we can't ban him. We have no evidence besides his word. Downloading it free could be something like "I payed for the game and I downloaded it free off the website".
I guess he doesn't realize that you can still connect to minecraft servers if online-mode = false.

Even though I personally look down upon pirating in general, as stated by Notch himself above, there are both positives and negatives to those who pirate the game. OP pirated, he seemingly likes the game, he finds out he can't play MP, so either he pays for it, or he sticks with SP. Now think down the road, he shows it to a few friends, and they actually buy the game, and/or he buys it. Here's a quote off of above link from Notch.
"If someone pirates Minecraft instead of buying it, it means I’ve lost some “potential” revenue. Not actual revenue, as I can never go into debt by people pirating the game too much, but I might’ve made even more if that person had bought the game instead. But what if that person likes that game, talks about it to his or her friends, and then I manage to convince three of them to buy the game? I’d make three actual sales instead of blocking out the potentially missed sale of the original person which never cost me any money in the first case."
It's funny how this has actually happened in personal experience (Starcraft 2, which for those thinking lolblizzard, trust me I agree) but I managed to make 7 people buy the game solely cause I sat there and played it when they visited, and it looked strangely interesting to them at the time, so they bought it and later found out I pirated it.
For a final clarification at the end, in it's own space, I'm not being sympathetic nor defending this pirate, just saying that it could cause a positive influence in Minecraft's favor, however slight.
Holy crap.. Just from the posts in this thread, why can't we just make piracy a misdemeanor? I mean seriously. It should still be illegal, but the worst that should happen is you either having to pay for the program, or having your ISP drop you.

I piraced Minecraft (1.2), too.
Then, after playing it for some days and realising it's actually worth the money, i buyed it, for the sake of supporting Notch (i could have piraced further, had a nice source to get the files from).
End of Story.
You may flame me now, won't continue reading in this thread either way XD
OMG URE IMPERFECT
HAOW DAR U EVER DO SOMETHING LIK THAT!?
I'd rather have people support the developer.
