So I said in another topic that everything had to be in the root of the .zip. Here we go in step-by-step fashion for the less computer literate among us:
1. Here we have our texture packs folder.
2. Here's the inside of the folder!
3. It's extracted!
4. Look at all these files in the Skins folder.
5. Select them all!
6. Right click and add those suckers to an archive.
7. Name the folder whatever you like, make sure the format is .zip, and click that big shiny OK button.
You're all set. Now just boot up the game, select the texture pack loader, open the folder from there, then add your pack to the folder!

In the event you don't have WinRAR installed, you can also make a zip file by going to "Send To" and then selecting "Compressed (zipped) Folder", for Windows XP.
Not sure if this option persists into Vista or Windows 7.

Completely off-topic, but it's actually pretty interesting to see/know how that feature (send to compressed folder) made it into Windows. It involved multiple buy-outs.
Anyway, yes, that's still in Windows 7. I never use it (actually, if I could take it out I would), but it's there. Mouser X over and out.
i made it a zip from the painterly pack containing just the .pngs and the folders (mob misc art gui etc) and the game recognizes it. but when i do single player it doesnt show it. it just shows the regular minecraft textures. i click on the painterly pack and click done then i play and it doesnt work. i restarted it twice but nothing. is there a issue?
Bah, get 7zip and do the same thing without paying. Or just use the built-in compression.
This is actually more complicated than running mcpatcher or putting the files into minecraft.jar manually.
You only need to do this if the author has not updated the file to work with Minecraft correctly. Many authors do weird things like create sub-folders in their zip files instead of putting the changes in the root folder.
Once texture pack authors start making their packs compatible, you can just drag and drop the .zip file into the folder Minecraft opens.

When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
I assume this does not work with HD texture packs, like Misas HD pack? If I follow these steps the game crashes on startup.
I think anything over 32x32 cases a crash case doku works just fine... outside of the horrid bug of pumpkins and gold blocks having fire and water blocks in them.
i dont understand this a bit. I dont think my computer has a built in compressor, and i'm not downloading 7zip or winrar for it. Hopefully someday when they are downloaded they will come ready to use.

What? So when pigs get hit by lighting, they suddenly develop into bipeds and receive brown leather skirts and golden swords from nowhere?

The folder is located at /User/%username%/Library/Application Support/minecraft/texturepacks
Nothing is working? Are you useing the websites survival mode or are you using the .exe minecraft?
What?
He's saying the button that opens your texture folder doesn't work on OS X, the texture selector itself works fine.
It is! Does that process still work? I think its too hard to adjust , i would just rather run the patcher. btw ur siggie is so true :ohmy.gif:
Putting a zip file into a folder isn't diffucult we just have issues not changing :tongue.gif: also its not working for me
bleh. i didnt mean to say "nothing is working" i meant did you still get it working. fail

I honestly don't know anyone who has ever paid for WinRAR. The program still works after the "40-day trial" is up.
