could a mod be made where you could turn on/off mods in-game? like, remember goldeneye64 or many other games from the early days where you had a cheat selection screen? i would like one like that to be implemented into the options menu from the title screen.
for example: in the title screen, you select options, then something like "cheats/mods", then from there you would have a list of different mods/cheats that you could turn on/off, y'know?
get what im saying? is there a way to create this type of thing? the main reason i ask is simply because the whole "move this file into the minecraft.jar" deal is pretty tedious.
to 'mod' means to 'modify'. meaning you have to change something in the code, and recompile your change. Then you have to replace the original file with the modified version.
Basically you HAVE to move them into the jar or the game doesnt have access to the changed file.
That aside yes its completely possible to add new menus to the game and mods could be written so that they inject a menu button into a multipurpose 'cheat menu'. But you would still have to drag files into the jar to install them.
oh yeah i know what you're getting at, but after you were to load whatever mods you want into the jar would the "cheat menu" mod have the ability to turn specific mods on/off?
That sounds quite interesting. I have an external program which does what you are saying, but not within Minecraft. You could theoretically take my program and put it into Minecraft, but everytime you apply a mod, you'll need to restart Minecraft.
This actually sounds interesting enough for me to do, but the obfuscated nature of the code puts me off. Another caveat is that actual drawing of the UI, not sure how Minecraft handles drawing standard application controls like text boxes, tables, etc.

wow, im liking the sound of that. if you could find a way to implement it into the actual game than that would be a very handy mod indeed!

also, which "external program" might that be? >.>
Check my sig, Minecrafter. I'll take a look at Minecraft's source code tonight. Most likely I won't get anywhere soon, so if you can get a modder to help, that would speed things up tremendously. All I need is someone who knows the ins and outs of Java to make the UI shell, and I can do the rest.

im looking for a way to turn off minecraft forge because a server im trying to get on has a bug where having forge on has you fall through an infinite black pit until your minecraft sais connection closed. did anyone eventually finish the mod?

Get said server to reinstall forge, and make sure you have the same version as the server.

You can't turn the mods off ingame, but, you can turn them on and off.
