For a game about a guy of ambiguous ethnic origin punching trees Minecraft can be terrifying sometimes. This mod takes that concept and runs with it.
Fearcraft is a sound overhaul mod that attempts to improve audio quality, while staying true to the emotion behind the original sounds and amping up the scare factor.
Sounds that have been replaced:
Music
New Music
NewSound/Fire
NewSound/Liquid
NewSound/Ambient/Liquid
NewSound/Ambient/Mob/ZombiePig, Skeleton, Spider, Slime, Zombie
NewSound/Random
The mod is fairly polished. All sounds should fade in and out nicely and each should fit the games mood.
Disclaimer
This mod is provided as is and is entirely unsupported. Updates will be based upon user suggestions and my own whim.
The sounds themselves have been ripped from numerous other sources, I claim no ownership and they have been used under fair use. If you own the rights to any of these files and do not wish them to be included in this mod, please send me a message and your files will be removed as soon as possible.
If you do not own the rights to these sound files and take exception to their use, I don't care. Its a free user created mod made for fun. Get over it.
Huge thank you to epinull for the sound mod enabler, as well as cvpcs for the updated file for 1.20
A video would be kind of long and pointless as each song is around 3 minutes long and the music/ambient sounds play randomly.
I converted a bunch of the sounds to mp3 and put them up as a preview, just download the preview and play the mp3's in your favorite media player and decide for yourself if that is the sort of tension and atmosphere you wish to add into your game.
Also, the mod was just updated to a003. I decided if I was going to put this up for public consumption I should take take out that duplicate file and make the songs fade in and out correctly.
Installation should be pretty self explanatory, just follow the readme and you will be all good. Aside from replacing the resources folder, installation is exactly the same as the sound mod enabler.
Holy Crap. I am sitting at my desk with my laptop, and since I am a gamer I have a decent set of speakers hooked up. Well, little did I know how load that stuff was. Had to change my pants...
The problem is that there are only 12 slots for music tracks, and the game sort of picks randomly from them. I do not believe there are biome specific scores just yet.
I still need to do some experimenting to see if the game will accept additional songs outside of that 12.
Edit: I'm probably going to replace the louder more sudden tracks with something more subtle and haunting.
The next big thing I need to do, is see if I can add custom sounds without overwriting the default ones. That would allow me to add more chicken sounds, and music that doesn't replace the default.
Why make a mod with scary sounds? Why not make a mod that isntead of scary cave sounds it was a funny song so u didnt have nightmare? Minecraft is scary enough for me :/ Dont have to be scarier

Version History
a004 - Updated for Minecraft 1.1_02
a003 - Fixed duplicate music file, replaced cave9-13
a002 - Replaced Mob sounds and updated for Minecraft 1.2.0
a001 - Initial alpha release
Huge thank you to the Sound Mod Enabler without whom sound mods would for the moment be a no go.
It should now be a .zip in mp3 format so that anyone can download and listen to the preview tracks without needing additional software.
Like a Teaser.
Gotta love those moments!

What do you think of this as a Nether theme?:

Lesson learned, check sound BEFORE playing random music

I'd love to try it.
