Ok this texture pack is simpy this wonderfoul texture pack (brown and bloom) made by DVan upscaled to 128 and made slightly painterly. I only modefied the terrain.png
Sad to hear so, spent alot of time on it :sad.gif: If you could point out what you did not like with it, it would make me do less mistakes in the future. If you ment it sucked 110% then say so, I could take it down if more people tell it's 110% bad.
I personally liked it though, I might have a special taste maybe.
This is a great texture pack. While I appreciate the effort people put into ever more detailed, ever higher definition packs, you just can't escape the fact that this is a game in which the world is made out of enormous cubes. It doesn't matter how carefully things are shaded or in how much detail they're rendered-- they're still cubes. And really, that's just part of the charm of the game as far as I'm concerned. The first time I looked at the sun and saw that it was square, I loved it.
So it's nice to see a pack from someone who's so fully embraced the cube, and done such a tremendous job of glorying in the fundamental cubishness of the Minecraft world. Thanks.
a quote from another thread . HD may be nice but there is a limit to how high you should go . There may be a few that likes really high textured stuffs but not for majority of the community . Look at eld's for example . It's one of the very fine examples of a 16 x 16 textures that looks great . Painterly looks pretty good (i think it's 16 x 16 as well)
Thank you for the informative post :smile.gif:
You are correct. But this is realative as you say, some like high rez some don't. So I will wait and see if someone don't hate it. :tongue.gif: might take some time though...
I don't hate it >.> and i appreciate your hardwork ..
I just looked through (terrain) this edited pack and i didn't like a few things (i don't know which is exactly which so yeah ...) . some of them e.g. bookshelf looks really realistic however the lava looks really weird >.> obsidian is awesome . the sun and moon looks awesome as well . the doors looks weird .
It looks like you took a 32x32 pack stretched it to 128x128 and then just went in Photoshope and selected a filter and put it over the whole thing.....not exactly ALOT OF WORK...
There might be an audience for this though if you change the pack name to Water Painting textures.
The textures actually look like they are infested with worms.
Resizing textures is tricky business, best advice is, don't. Higher rez in Minecraft isn't always "teh more awesomesauce!"
Then again to each their own and if you like it and some people enjoy it then who am I to judge? :smile.gif:
The problem with high resolution textures, as I see it, is that most of the time it either looks bad on close range, or on long range, or it makes weird patterns when you move, sort of like snow on a tv. As far as I can see, you have avoided these issues. I really liked the metal blocks, those looks great I think.
edit: One problem about your pack, as you might be aware of, is that all the textures bleed into each other. I will borrow your metalblocks and fix it for my own game, cheers =)
I have to say that I only edited the terrain.png the awesome stuff that is the rest is made by DVan not me, as I have said, so please don’t give me credit for things I have not done.
Secondly I spent most of my time with the texture fixing problems after the up scaling from 32x32. I know problems still remain though.
STYJ
Thank you, but he credit goes to DVan as I only managed to destroy his pretty doors with my upscaling :sad.gif:
ANARKY
I said I up scaled a 32x32 to 128x128, and made it painted looking. I did start with increasing the resolution of the teraing.png and then proceed with sharpening, colour correcting, selective blurring, filters, etc so you are somewhat correct, but this is my first try and I didn’t know of texture bleeding before, I have only had experience with semi concept art. example: http://www.deviantart.com/download/1699 ... on4321.jpg
Thank you for the tips with naming it water painting textures. :smile.gif:
Sinister Brain
Then I think I will do a better try next time if I try again.
avien
thank you and thank you for the tip
I got those weird patterns too, so I had to reduce the sharpness of the texture a lot!
I tried to fix the bleeding but it is really hard :sad.gif: I can’t fix some without ruining the level of detail; I will simply have to do a better try at up scaling some other time.
I did only upscale the metal block texture and etc, so If you want to use them then I think you should ask DVan for permission. It’s only fair he made the pack, I only up scaled it.
Yes I am Norwegian =)
When I converted Doku/Mixcraft to 64x64 I had an issue with filters destroying the edges of adjacent textures, so I cut each individual texture out and put it in a separate window to work on. Then I just pasted it back in when it was done. I've also noticed that upscaling/filtering tends to mess with the tiling on some textures. I had to edit a bunch by hand in order to make them look right.
If you want to upscale or downscale the terrain.png, a good tip for avoiding the textures bleeding into each other is the choice "nearest neighbour (preserve hard edges)" when your resize in image scale in PS. Since you also put filters on them, I guess the easiest would be to go by this process for each texture: mark and copy it, paste it again (gives it a new layer on top of the other). Then apply all editing. It will most likely bleed now, but now you can easily delete anything outside the borders of the texture you want, then merge it down to avoid 100 layers. I know this is some work :smile.gif:
Norge her også. Har selv laget en pakke basert på Brown and Bloom :smile.gif:
Thank you for the tip, : )
I guess I will just try to find the time to redo and fix every texture one by one then. It will probably go better then last time because I have learned alot already :smile.gif:
captiva
realy! :sad.gif: But I asked the creator of the main pack DVan for premission! :sad.gif: He said it was okay.
The problem with the edges is beacues of bad use of sharpening, if I redo the up scaling then it will not be a problem but it will take days :sad.gif: I can of course modefy the one with problems and blurr selectively, I will see if I can get the time for that.
avien
Great advice! I will try that if I get the time! :smile.gif:
Quick tip: Rater art can only go one way, and that's downscale. Upscaling images will cause images to get blury, and have data loss because it's making up non existent pixels from thin air. It would've been easier and much cleaner to try the paintish styled art while keeping it 32x32.
thaks for the tip, I will keep that in mind if I do a second try.

good tip Il try to see If I can get the same quality with 32x32, though I really like the round edges, but It's rather hard to get that at 32x32. But I will try :smile.gif:

I hope you do. Keep trying things, keep doing odd things or changing colors around or whatever.
Have you seen some of the texture packs floating around here? hehe yours is hardly the worst.
You have succeeded in making the textures appear as water colour paintings, for that feel pride.
Next you should work on making them look better overall, especially in how they tile. I think these would look better with larger "brush strokes" but that may be a matter of taste.
My friend who hostet the texture pack last time isn't online now so untill he logs on anybody who wants to try the texture has to dowload that terrain.png.

tell me what you think and why, simply saying **** isn't going to help much :tongue.gif:
I Inserted the halloween pack textures without modefying them,

I redid the upscaling with all the advice in mind, I ended up with a different style this time, but I am more happy with the result this time.
